Amsterdam After Midnight

Rate this book
What happens when eleven weeks in Amsterdam turn into something neither of them expected?

Micah Williams came to Amsterdam to get his head straight. Three months, no plans, no expectations. Just distance from a relationship that ended in silence instead of a real goodbye. He did not plan on nearly dying in a bike lane on the first day.

Daan Van der Hoek has one no dating visitors. He’s watched people fall for his city and leave without a second thought, and he’s done being someone’s summer story. But Micah asks the right questions, doesn’t flinch from hard conversations, and makes Daan laugh in a way he hasn’t in years. Before either of them can stop it, a bent bike wheel turns into a first kiss, a night on a houseboat, and a life Daan didn’t know he was missing.

With the clock ticking louder every week, they have to decide whether eleven weeks is a warning or a beginning. As the city turns orange for King’s Day, Micah and Daan will have to choose between a quiet ending, like every love before it, or something worth staying for.

Amsterdam After Midnight is a contemporary gay romance about unexpected connections, second chances, and the terrifying possibility that the person you weren't looking for might be exactly the person you need.

Set against Amsterdam's canals, cafés, bicycles, houseboats, and King’s Day celebrations, this is a romantic escape for readers who love traveling somewhere beautiful and falling in love along the way.

An Alphabet Romance is a series of standalone gay romances set in cities around the world. Each book features a new destination, a new couple, and a new happily-ever-after.

Overall, I found this to be a very enjoyable and engaging read! I was impressed with the banter between the characters as well as the natural progression in how their relationship builds. Although there's some grammatical work that could be fleshed out with another round of editing, we quickly get immersed into the serendipitous and captivating dynamic between Daan and Micah, it's easy to overlook some of the writing choices.

Spice level: I'm unfamiliar with how the general, raunchy romance readers rate spicy scenes, but this book should come with an additional warning. This isn't written as smut, with a bombardment of intimate scenes incessantly throughout while the plot is secondary. No. This is a romance novel, and the genuine and raw closeness described falls naturally in line with the plot. Althought these scenes are few, they are described in unfiltered detail. Again, I think they work well here, but definitely a heads-up for readers not familiar with this type of writing, especially with 2x MMCs.

The biggest complaint I have is that I can't find any biographical information about this author who self-published this and two other books on the same date earlier this month. For how well this is written (especially for a self-published book), I am a bit suspicious of this author's legitimacy and if AI was used. If Yess truly put these words to page of his own volition, well done, and I look forward to reading the others in this series.

Unfortunately, if this turns out to be heavily AI- generated, I will bow out and will adjust my rating accordingly.

Well written and exceptional. Fun vicarious read. The characters and locations are enjoyable. I did not want the story to end.
