"R.U.N. on the Folded Edge" is a gay erotic novella. Destiny comes for twenty-five-year-old Chuck Hendley the day his world is literally turned upside down during an amusement-park accident. There, he meets an extraordinary man, who might very well be Mr. Right. Chuck soon has the opportunity of a lifetime, when fame and fortune reach out to him. If you're in to odd stories and taking chances on more esoteric reads, I highly recommend giving R.U.N. a read.

This was definitely an interesting book for me to read. This book is one of those types of stories where you find yourself questioning what the heck is going on while reading it. You know, where the plot jump around, the characters are zany and crazy, and even at the end, you find yourself questioning the ending because while it doesn't seem like an ending, it kind of fits (the movie Detention comes to mind). That was this book for me. And I loved it.

I don't want to give everything away, because this is a book that has to be read with an open mind in order to fully appreciate it. However, I can say that the characters were zany and wonderful. I loved seeing Nick and Chuck interacting, as they were adorable and had some amazing one-liners. The secondary characters were also colorful, yet they were well balanced with Nick and Chuck as well as the plot. They didn't overtake the story, a common problem I've found in story-lines such as this.

As for the plot...I will admit, this story did not go where I thought it would. And I mean that in a good way. Too many times I've found stories that were too predictable, so it was a pleasant change to find one that didn't go where I thought it would, even though that was primarily because I kept asking myself what the heck was going on. I would categorize this as a bit of a fairy tale, because I did need to suspend my disbelief in order to follow along, which frankly just made me want to read the story even more. And the sex scenes...creative and fresh, a pleasant surprise considering I usually skip excessive sex scenes (and probably wouldn't have given this book a read if I had realized it was erotica in advance). As for the ending, I would classify it as a HFN, a riding off into the sunset ending, which works for the story.

I'll admit, this is not going to be for everyone. The author has a unique and odd writing style that will annoy some people (I'm still debating if the comma errors I kept finding were done purposefully or not), yet it works for the story. I know that I liked the book much more than I thought I would, primarily because it defied all my expectations for what I thought this story was going to be based on the tags and the blurb. So if you're in to odd stories and taking chances on more esoteric reads, I highly recommend giving R.U.N. a read.

2.5 Heart Review by Kat

This is a brand new author for me. I loved his descriptive building of the two main characters, Chuck Hensley, a talented but shy singer with a tremendous voice, and Nick Walker, an out-going man who goes after what he sees and wants.

We first meet the two men on a roller coaster ride gone horribly wrong. We watch and continue on their journey as Nick pursues Chuck, who had just escaped from camping in Baha with his dad and new wife. Chuck invites Nick to his room for a make-out session and then we follow Chuck in his exploration of a chance at a meaningful relationship and the struggles that these men are challenged with.

Mr. Elwes did a great job of captivating my attention as I went along with their journey. I liked how he brought their pasts into play and how they molded into the story. There were several wonderful supporting characters that encouraged both Chuck and Nick. There were also some unique twists, that I never saw coming, that kept me entranced in the story. Unfortunately, for me at least, I was really getting into their story and was intrigued where it was going to go and BAM, it ended! To say that I was disappointed is an understatement! He took so much time building this intriguing plot and character development and then just left me hanging! My hope is that this is the prequel for the whole story but I have found no mention of a coming full-length novel anywhere. I hate doing this because I really liked what I read so far but I have to give this 2.5 stars. I have to say that, if I found it is a prequel or first in a series I would be giving this at least 4 stars so it really saddens me to give it such a low score.

Quick Read

The beginning of the story leaves you wanting to know more. The writer comes across as unique and original. By the end of the first chapter, I could not wait to finish the book. I was pulled in the writer’s world easily and I connected with the characters. The author did a wonderful job of establishing a sense of time and location. The pace of the story was very fast paced but considering the length of the story, at only 52 pages. The main characters and the secondary characters were exciting and realistic. Both Chuck and Nick had faults that they each had to battle making them realistic.

The point of view stayed with Chuck all the way through the book. I would have liked to see Nick’s side but considering the length it was not unexpected. The main conflict of the story is Chuck getting the opportunities of a lifetime and learning to embrace it. The biggest issue with the book was that it was too short. It could have been much longer. The level of conflict was good with the length of the story. The dialogue between the characters was open and distinct. The characters voice matched not only the setting but fit their overall personality. The ending was a bit predictable but bearing in mind the length of the story it is not unexpected. I hope we get to see these characters again in the future.

Hot, sexy fun with two great guys.
This is such a fun book, and the authors intreaguing style draws the reader in from the start. Our heroes Nick and Chuck meet while stranded upside down on a roller coaster! Nick soon revealed he'd been following Chuck looking to introduce himself. The guys are hot together from the outset, but also sweet and engaging too. After one scorching night, Nick has to rush off and Chuck is devastated as he's reminded of past hurts. He resumes his journey, intending one last hopeful call to Nick will reunite them. He's distracted by a road traffic accident and rushes in to help. He's unable to free the trapped woman until helped by another hero, our dashing Nick!
The men reconnect and there unfolds and fantastic story of their romance, amazing at times and very sexy.
Nick changes Chuck's life for the better.
A lovely feel good HEA for our hot guys. Perfect.

Chuck Hendley, the narrator, punctuates his emotional highs--near-death experiences, orgasms, and life-changing encounters with celebrities--with the quaint exclamation "Oh my lord!" And at one point he describes Nick Walker, his companion in those highs and the title character of the book, as smelling like watermelon bubble-gum.

Those two sentences really encapsulate this delightfully silly novel. Chuck is a kind of Cinderella whose hidden talents and ultimate worth have been hidden in the stock room of an organic co-op. Nick is his prince, who pushes him far out of his comfort zone and forces him to grab on to the life he deserves.

Elwes updates the fairy tale with viral videos, hydroplanes, and rainbow jockstraps, and brings everything to an improbable happy ending.

My only reservation is about the supporting cast, who exuberantly fulfill various plot functions (including explaining the meaning of the book's title), but are a little too shadowy to be entirely satisfying.
