The B Side is here and I am SO happy.
This is the novella sequel to The Whole Truth by Haley Cass, and I loved getting to see the aftermath of THE KISS. You know the one. Darcy and Juliet went from rivals to collaborators to lovers, kept it hidden behind closed doors for two years, and then one onstage kiss blew the whole thing wide open. Now everyone from fans to labels has an opinion, and being openly in love comes with its own set of complications.
I loved this continuation of their story. What I loved most is the utter adoration these two have for each other. After all the sneaking around, getting to watch them exist out loud together was so sweet. And the spice is BACK, babes!!! We get spicy scenes again, and they are every bit as good as I hoped.
If you loved The Whole Truth, please do not skip this one. It is a quick read that feels like a warm hug and a little more time with two women you already adore. Haley Cass does it again.
Five stars. Cannot Miss. No notes.

Brilliant. Entertaining. Hot.

No matter what she writes I will read it.

Ate this novella up. Loved reading more about Darcy and Juliet. Loved getting some closure on the whole Harvey situation, which I felt was missing from The Whole truth.

An interesting epilogue/sequel novella to wrap up the main story from The Whole Truth. You might expect this to simply show Juliet and Darcy together sharing happy days, especially as that’s at least partly hinted at in the final lines of the main book. What we actually get is a slight rewind to after the main HEA final scene. The B Side actually deals with fallout and the world outside the bubble. And there’s a lot of fallout her! The girls are forced to confront plenty, making this novella far from a sweet epilogue of 20-30 pages but a full story in its own right, adding much to “the whole truth” alluded to in the main book’s title.

If you’re ready to read how our believed MCs deal with homophobic backlash, propogated thru the modern discourse of social media and gossip outlets, then The B Side is definitely for you. There are some sweet moments here, for sure. It’s not an unpleasant read in any way; it’s a serious one, but one that will strengthen your bond with Darcy and Juliet.

Don’t be tempted to skip this extremely worthwhile follow-up novella.

While I loved The Whole Truth, I did feel like there were a few gaps in the story that could’ve been filled in, so this sequel novella was perfect. It filled in some of those missing pieces and gave me more of the story I didn’t know I needed!

An absolutely essential read after finishing The Whole Truth -- I don’t know what it is about Haley Cass’s writing but I could absolutely eat another 1000 pages of any one of her novels (and they’re already longer, better, than other genre romance books)! Great, and needed, extra detail -- but golly could I have devoured another double-again pages of this epilogue!! Read it.

Edit: gahhhhh I want more of ‘em… [Full Spoilers]

This was a delightful little surprise of a drop! The B Side picks up in the minutes after the epilogue of The Whole Truth. I'm here for as much Juliet and Darcy as I can get and was happy to follow along for another chunk of their story. I'm giving it the same rating as The Whole Truth because it really does feel like an answer to the question: "What if the The Whole Truth was just 100+ pages longer."

Perfect little follow up. I wish it had been in the actual book because it provides some resolution that I specifically wanted; I'm never sure how I feel about these little add-on’s for this exact reason. Anyways, it’s a great addition if you read the book.

This was a really solid addition to book one.

There were some storylines I wanted explored more in The Whole Truth, and Haley did a great job here of expanding upon those loose ends. It answered some questions I had, and explored more growth of their relationship which was wonderful to read.

Spicy// yes. Pretty spicy.

“Welcome to the B side of our life.”

Every single work that Haley Cass puts out is absolutely amazing. I was so thrilled to get more of Juliet and Darcy. The Whole Truth was so amazing - I had fallen in love with the two of them and was craving more at the end.

This was a shorter read than what I'm used to, but I enjoyed every second of it. It was so amazing to see Juliet stand up to Harrison and break free from his abuse, especially with Darcy supporting her. I really enjoyed the brief banter between Juliet and Blythe and how they're already referring to each other as sister-in-laws - it warmed my heart! The spice was also plentiful and very hot.

I would love to see more into their world - maybe a future wedding or them going on tour together after releasing their new album? I am up for any story that involves Juliet Jacobs and Darcy Kinkaid.

Haley Cass you are brilliant as always!

Some of my favourite lines:

“You and me, Thief.”

"I’m in a relationship with Darcy. A real, gay relationship,”

“You’re also correct in saying that Darcy is hot. Like – so fucking hot. Clearly, since you’ve all commented on it, you see it, too.”

" You’re my safe space. And you make me forget how horrible things can be.”

"So, I’m in it. I’m weathering the storm with you, and there’s nowhere else I’d rather be.”

“But the reality is, I love our life. I want to keep going on tour with you. I want to make music with you at three in the morning. I want to have mind-blowing sex with you until early afternoon.”

“You’re mine, Darcy Kincaid. I don’t want anyone else. And I can’t imagine coming out for or with anyone else.”

She’d be Juliet’s date anywhere. Juliet could tell her they were going to the moon and never returning to this planet, and she’d pack her bag.

Because Darcy did worship at the altar between Juliet’s legs.

An extended epilogue to Juliet and Darcy's story. Juliet 'outs' them both by kissing Darcy on stage, and this short story deals with the aftermath and fallout.
Palpable love between the wonderful main characters, although both have fears; Darcy was 'outed' without her permission and Juliet worries about that, while the change in attitude of studios, artists and fans towards Juliet bothers Darcy, which makes both of them face up to their deepest feelings for the other.
Real, with real love - and plenty of personal time! - this is another winner from Haley Cass.

This is a welcome return to the world of country music stars Juliet Jacobs and Darcy Kincaid. At the end of the last book (SPOILER if you haven’t read it) we saw them kiss on stage for the first time in public - their mutual coming out, in the grounds of the mansion of Juliet’s controlling stepfather while performing at one of his ultra-conservative charity events. He was so pissed, and this is where this book begins.
I loved that this was such a seamless continuation from The Whole Truth. It shows the growing trust and love between the two women, how they navigate the negative media circus and rejection from record labels, some encouraged by Juliet’s stepfather, and how they are finally able to be out in public and show their love for one another.

When I finished reading The Whole Truth I immediately wanted more of Juliet and Darcy. I'm happy this sequel novella exists because it gave me exactly that. It was great to revisit them and stay in their world a little longer.

In terms of content, I was disappointed because I wanted more snippets of their relationship later on. This novella pretty much picks up at the ending of The Whole Truth and fills in the gap between the ending and the epilogue. That's nice but I personally would have liked a little time skip.

I also found this book had more angst, especially with the focus on the . Nothing wrong with that, but my expectations of what I would have liked the novella to focus on just didn't align with what this novella ended up being.

My main criticism of The Whole Truth was that I felt like things wrapped up too quickly and easily. This novella really helps with filling out the story and giving it the more fleshed out ending I was looking for.

Some minor nitpicks: I wish Haley Cass would give some brief 1-sentence context of who a character was when they are introduced for the first time in this story. It’s been so long since I’ve read The Whole Truth that I didn’t remember who some characters were or their backstories (like Kerrington, Brenna, and Laura). Additionally, it seems like the book wasn’t the most thoroughly edited; there were quite a few typos.

Haley Cass is a masterclass in novellas, however, this one fell a bit short. While I'll personally never complain about getting to see her characters into their futures, I felt this one played a little too close to the events of The Whole Truth and I would have liked to see more snapshots a little further into their future. I think capturing the hardships they endured in the industry after coming out was important, and I was a big fan of Blythe's wedding and the Grammy's being incorporated, and even Shelby Linwood, I just felt like reading this felt like an extended epilogue rather than the typical HC novella recipe.

I love that Haley always gives us just a little bit more of her characters. I loved Juliet and Darcy's story and it was great to see them work through the fall out of the end of the book together. Also just love getting some extra super steamy scenes, after a seriously hot book. I devoured this book in one evening.

I loved The Whole Truth and wanted more at the end, so I was so happy to see this novella come out giving us more of Juliet and Darcy. But I have to agree with other reviews on this one, this is the ending The Whole Truth should have had.

Hard to rate a novella, but Haley’s writing is as good as ever. I really wanted to see farther into their future, but I appreciate that they still had a lot to go through in their current lives and It was nice to see that.
