Chloe's Watcher

Rate this book
Chloe’s best friend, Kaitlyn, is lost in the past. If her new Nephilim boyfriend, Horace, doesn’t get back with her soon, Chloe is going to go crazy. They need to get on with their lives, without all the demonic drama they’ve had. It’s taking way longer than time travel should. During the agonizing wait, she discovers her timeline isn’t like it’s supposed to be. Not only is her family changed, but her ex-boyfriend, the guy she was so over, doesn’t remember they broke up and is finally treating her like she’d always hoped for.

As she begins her senior year of high school with both Kaitlyn and Horace missing, and with confusing changes all around, she realizes something else has shifted. She is being watched. Always. And though she’s aware someone is constantly just out of sight, stalking her from the shadows, she can’t know the hatred that has propelled her Watcher from the foxholes of war, forward through time, to the ultimate moment when he plans to use Chloe to reclaim his lost power and exact the revenge that has kept him breathing through decades of exile.

* I thank the author of the book Cheri Gillard for providing me with a copy of her book in exchange of an honest review.*
The storyline continues from where it ends in the first book. Kaitlyn, Chloe's friend is still stuck in the past and waiting for Horace to take her back. Meanwhile things in the present day has changed a lot. Chloe along with her family has shifted to her father's house. Panahasi was left in the time of world war and his contempt and hatred for Horace has compelled him to do things which will lead to disastrous consequences. The writing style is narrative and the book covers four stories at a time and that is of Panahasi, Kaitlyn, Horace and Chloe.
Billy's presence is terribly missed but the author has compensated for his absence in a very different way which won't be disappointing.
There are actually many things that intrigued as well as surprised me about Panahasi. Who could expect that a person like him can possibly act like human and be capable to be loved and give love in return. He by far was the most complex character according to me. It seems like there is a soft part of his that is hidden somewhere but it is rather not discovered or is suppressed by anger, need to get attention, revenge and striving to be ahead of Horace. Horace on the other hand didn't have much part or role to play in this book except getting Kaitlyn back. Regarding Chloe, all that is shown of her and about her is that how she struggles with her new life. How she bears her Father's new wife and daughter and how the new technology is troubling her. Nonetheless she has lost her original place in the orchestra but her boyfriend Todd is exceptionally good to her who apparently ditched her in the future/present day which she remembers. Chloe's struggle along with her wait for Kaitlyn and Horace is beautifully described.
The author did a commendable job by keeping up with the standards and writing of the first book. Vocabulary is worth appraising. The way the theme and setup of time travelling, historical fiction, mythological fiction, science fiction with just a tinge of contemporary, modern life is tied together in just one book is brilliant and very new and creative.
After reading this book I'm craving to read its sequel. The way the book has ended, it has piqued up my curiosity levels to another level. Can't wait to read the next one.
If you're looking for entertainment with some sense in it, then go for it. This book has all the ingredients that can make a book enjoyable and not boring.
