Vivian Darkwater is about to embark on the next chapter of her Personal Healer to the Mphronatch, Aka, her college roommate and bestie Aphrodite. As the mate to a prince of the Vroskrowz and very pregnant, Aphrodite created a brand new job for the sarcastic, fiery Vivian. Today's her last day. In a few short hours, she's going to be on a ship to the other end of the stars.
Until patient zero for a horrifying outbreak enters her healing bay. The dead begin to walk again and they're mutating rapidly in a way she can't explain. And the dead are hungry. Trapped in the Council Station, Vivian must keep her wits about her in order to survive. Good thing the flirty, charming Reevar, a Vroskrowz hunter, is stuck in there with her. If only it wasn't for that pesky fated mate thing! She's ready to risk it on him but she's afraid to get her heart broken when he finds his Fated Mate...because he would have said something if she was his mate, right?
Reevar has known Vivian is his mate for a few months now, but after witnessing the massive political scandal of Xexis and Aphrodite, he's sworn to himself to do better. Smoother, subtler, slower, if only Vivian wasn't so curious about all the ways he could make her see the stars.
Danger lurks out in those stars and an age old foe has returned to destroy the Vroz. But that's what Reevar was built to be, the one who takes the hit. He's the one who takes the final blow, the spare, the right hand to the Kannatch and the one whose never afraid to die. Until the day, that is, he's actually got something...someone to lose.

Ugh I just loved Reevar so much. He was such a sunshiny boy to Vivian’s grumpiness. He was not the best at communicating really important things, like “hey you’re my fated mate”, but he wasn’t super secretive. Vivian was intelligent and quick to anger, a consummate workaholic healer. They were thrown into the deep end together with the highest stakes of unexpectedly fighting the undead. They made a great team.
Spice: 4/5
Triggers: Survivors guilt, mass human casualty by viral infection, autopsy of the recently deceased, body horror, gore, dismemberment, blood, infections, zombies, pustules, larvae in pustules, bugs (spiders to be exact), eldritch horror, space horror, emesis (mentioned in chapter 11:30 hours), explosion, corrupt abusive corporations, estranged parents, grief, pregnancy of side character including on page beginning of labor, pregnancy announcement HEA
Classic Lizzie shenanigans + alien zombies makes for a fun space adventure! Lizzie kept me on my toes the entire time. I wasn't sure how they were going to get out of all the pickles they found themselves in, but thankfully we did get to that HEA eventually. And I love when we have a sunshiney alien and a grumpy human. Reevar was totally in love with Vivian (but who wouldn't be in love with a badass woman that can fight zombies in heels??), and their miscommunications (mostly from cultural differences) made for some hilarious moments.
This sci-fi/horror romance is the second book in the Om1n0us N0m1n0us series, and although it features new MCs, it would be best enjoyed in order.
Human FMC Vivian is the head healer on the space station, about to become the personal healer to her BFF Aphrodite, who is carrying the hybrid heir. On what is supposed to be her last day as head healer, a mysterious plague breaks out on the ship. Luckily, alien hunter MMC Reevar is also there, trying to get her to join him on a mating hunt.
I loved this book! The first book in the series was great, but I dare say this one was even better. I really liked both the MCs in this one, they were a perfect team. Their history and playful back-and-forth made the spicy scenes feel well earned. I also loved the mashup of sci-fi, horror, and romance. Strong did an awesome job of executing all three. The zombie elements were legitimately scary. While it obviously has Predator references, I liked that it paid homage to Aliens as well. There is a lot of world-building and plot happening, so I wouldn’t want to read these out of order.
I can’t wait to see what happens in the series. There were some questions left unanswered with the side characters and overall plot, so I’m really excited to see where it goes next.
Rating: 4 ⭐️ Spice: 3 🌶️ Tropes: alien x human • space zombies • predator alien • fated mates • primal as courting
The follow-up to May the Stars Have Mercy keeps up the high tempo and action - but wow, does the creepy factor get cranked up! All the zombie horror you could ever want!
The horror in this story is front and center, and it's real descriptive horror, guts and gore - too descriptive for my fragile psyche at times 🤣 And as always, Lizzie Strong takes something known and makes it entirely her own, and adds a lot of banter and spice.
Unfortunately, the pacing of the book was a bit off for me. High action, screaming and horror and then a long lull straight into all the blood and gore again. It left me feeling restless in the read, not just following along.
About the spice. It was there and present, but given the nature of the story and what I know the author can do, it fell a bit flat for me and felt somewhat generic.
A note on this being the second book in the series: It is in no way a standalone. In the author's own words: The sequel won't make a lick of sense without book one - and I wholly agree!
This book is for you if you love the blood and gore and space zombies - but also want a badass female scientist who gets the alien. She gets him often...
First, let me make one thing clear: I LOVE the Om1n0us N0m1n0us series, and I genuinely thought nothing could top May the Stars Have Mercy. And then May the Dead Stay Dead came and conquered. 😭
Lizzie, WHAT IS THIS MAGIC?! This was SO GOOD. Who gave you permission to write a sci-fi horror rom-com with this much tension, top-tier banter, and characters I want to wrap in a blanket and protect from the universe?!
Reevar is all sexy winks and pure competency porn, and I will not be taking questions at this time. 🫠 And can you even ask for a better FMC than Vivian?! Our girl is a breath of fresh air, and I absolutely adore her.
Although, let's be honest, this is pretty much how I feel about ALL of Lizzie's characters, so am I really the best person to judge? Not really. But judge I shall!
Because this book was brilliant. The banter is top tier, the tension is fantastic, some of it spicy and some of it scary, and there's so much more depth here than you might expect.
Actually, can I still call it unexpected when I've read this many of her books? No. I know what she's like by now. The woman enjoys traumatising us, and apparently, I enjoy coming back for more. 🤷🏻♀️
Another absolute winner. Lizzie, you magnificent menace. ❤️
I received an advance reader copy from the author and am sharing my honest review.
This was the perfect spooky season read! A fantastic mix of horror, romance, spice, heartwarming moments and banter with an edge of desperation underneath it all. I was utterly invested in the outcomes, whether it be the outbreak, zombie battles, the cure process, Aphrodites pregnancy and of course, our favorite hunter couple, Vivian and Reevar. So head over heels for each other but so dang clueless that it hurt. Between fighting for their lives, being chased by monsters or Reevar chasing Vivian, they didn’t have a second to just ask each other the important questions. I can’t blame them, after everything that happened, I would want to stay in my happy bubble too.
I adored Vivian, fighting monsters, a sharpshooter in pumps in my kind of girl! Morning her favorite shoes while actively fighting zombies was so real. And I definitely agreed with her feelings on Reevar in his uniform. Of course I loved Reevar as well. Dedicated, generous and a vicious hunter and protector, what’s not to love? And the spice was too good; primal play, stuffing, exhibitionism, biting, knotting (in a way) and a man who loves to eat. Safe to say, I really enjoyed it and have a feeling whose book is coming next!
ARC REaDER*** The way I was so freakin excited for this book to come out!! Like I LOVED the first one but this one was truly glorious. Vivian just thinks this is her last day at the Spire space station before she goes to be the glamorous healer of her best friend and engineer who broke all the governments rules. While also trying to figure out the hot best friend of her friends husband who may be looking for fun before finding his own mate? (Spoiler he’s not, she’s his mate and he’s OBSESSED with her.)
We love a partner who WORSHIPS their other half. I would like my own Reevar please and thank you.
There’s zombies, there’s chases, THERE’S a BOMB. Please read this book but make sure the read the one before this first. To set the scene if you will. 😉
Thank you to the author for the ARC, all opinions expressed are my own 🖤
This is only the second horror adjacent romance I’ve loved, but if anyone could make me get butterflies seconds after gagging about pustule zombies, it’s Lizzie Strong! This is the second book in the series and the wait was worth it! The zombie outbreak at the beginning, the overarching plot of the Big Bad, the freaking way this man is so down bad for this ferocious woman… I read it in a day. Absolutely devoured it. If you’re a fan of dystopian romance with a great plot and lots of banter, this will not disappoint
This is the second book in the Om1n0us N0m1n0us series, and although it features new MCs, it would be best enjoyed in order.
A wonderful mix of horror, sci-fi and romance.
Vivian was intelligent and quick to act , a consummate workaholic healer. They were thrown into the deep end together with the highest stakes of unexpectedly fighting the undead and Reevar is dedicated, generous and a vicious hunter and protector, they made a great team.
Really recommend if you want a badass woman that can fight zombies in heels.
