This one takes place in Europe, the original home of the Tiero shifters. We start our journey in the Eternal City—Rome. Vax’s half-brother Rafe has it bad for Callie. He thinks that’s the kind of woman he needs.
If hot sex skeeves you out, you may want to pass on this book. If freaky, downright dirty sexy talk bothers you, yeah, for sure you gotta pass on this one. We believe in sex--hot, dirty, delicious sex. Yup, make it sweaty, too. It's not just sex, it's about the romance. But good romance has sex, and we keep the doors open! Oh, and the lights on! ;)
This was a quick little read where we meet Jacqulyn, or Jax, and Rafe. I love how Jax has been having dreams of a white tiger for years and she so easily accepts Rafe as her mate. My only complaint is that I wish we would have seen them together with Jax's parents again after they're officially together and I wish this would have been longer.
This was a bit weird in that Rafe was "in love" with another woman who happened to be his brother's partner. Jax is also dating someone (although this person is a mooching asshole). Nice opposites attract (Jax is a free spirit while Rafe is more serious and runs the family business). Their relationship does start out dating b/c it's convenient before it turns into more. The relationship progressed fairly quickly (over a few days), but I was able to believe it (mainly b/c of shifters and mates). Nicely paced.
(PureTextuality.com)Forbidden is the first novella in the new series by Elle Thorne. This is a spin-off of her Shifter’s Forever series, and one that I have never read. I am all for shifter romances so it was kind of fun to find one I had not only never read, but had never heard of-at least that I can remember. These are BBW books, and in this case it just means the women have more curves than the stick thin models that are prevalent in today’s culture.
Different as night and day. That would describe the main characters of this romance. Jax is kind of a free spirit, works in a coffee shop, is tattoo’ed a few times, and lives with her no good, cheating, out of work, gamer boyfriend. Rafe is mega rich, runs the family company and lives on an estate outside of Rome. He is grieving the loss of the woman he loves to his brother, and has left his home for the night. He’s in a small coffee shop when he notices Jax behind the counter-and Jax’s boyfriend. Jax’s boyfriend is on her last nerve, taking all her money for whiskey, and she is supporting him. When Jax’s parents show up unexpectedly in town, Jax needs a pretend boyfriend and fast since they can’t stand her boyfriend. Guess who steps up?
This was an extremely short read. It’s billed at 105 pages, but it finished at 85% so it only took me less than two hours to read. Could there have been more story development, more character complexity? Of course, but since this is a novella, that pretty much goes with the territory. The story takes place over a two day period and since it does involve a white tiger shifter, the inst-love thing is more acceptable to me. The mating thing and all that goes with it.There’s a little bit of world building as well, and more of that would have been welcome to the reader like me that hasn’t read the first series. This might be a spin off, but most of the peripheral characters seem like they are from the other series-with the exception of Jax’s parents.
I did like the characters and also the extra bit of magic involved in one of Jax’s tattoos. The story was fun and I did enjoy the read. I just wish it had been a tad longer and more developed but again that goes with the novella territory.
Recommended to adult paranormal romance readers due to extremely hot sensual scenes. I received a copy from Net Galley in exchange for a fair and honest review.

What draw me in instantly was the blurb and of course the cover. I admit, I'm a sucker for paranormal romance books, specially ones with shifters. So, it's no surprise that I had to read this story and I'm truly glad I did.
The story starts with H still having feelings for his brother's mate and at that point I wasn't sure how I felt about that, since I like my books with H/h to not have feelings for anyone else than each other. Luckly that gets resolved quickly, when H meets h. He's immediately smitten, the only problem is that h has a BF, who is a complete loser. And who would knew, that a phone call from h's parents is going to save the day. H pretends to be h's BF and that's how their love story begins.
This story has it all: romance, angst, heartbreak, humor and of course HEA.
This definitely won't be my last read story from this author.
She dreams of a white tiger. Safe. Warm. Secure. Unlike her life. Oh, it isn’t that she grew up hard – unless you count overwhelming parents as ‘hard.’ So, she put Baton Rouge in her rear view, finding herself in college in Rome. Stuck with a tiny apartment and a useless, jobless boyfriend, life is a circle of class, coffee shop barista, and paying the useless video game playing boyfriend’s bills. Well, at least her parents don’t know that Useless is still hanging around.
Oops.
When her parents call with a ‘surprise’ – i.e. guess who’s in town? – she latches onto the sexy guy in the coffee shop with a plea. Could he please, please play boyfriend for a day?
She really didn’t know what she was getting into. For Rafe Tiero is used to getting what he wants. And what he wants is Callie.
Forbidden is spin off of the Shifters Forever series, book one of Never After Dark by Elle Thorne. There is a strong carryover from the earlier books, which I haven’t read, but I was still able to keep up and follow the story well.
I received this book from the publisher in exchange for a realistic review. All thoughts are my own.
This was a quick and easy read. Even thought this is the first book of a new series, I did feel like I was missing some back story because I haven't read the previous series
Forbidden (Never After Dark #1) by Elle Thorne Barbed Borders Press, 2015; 105 pgs
Continuing in my phase of desiring short--and this one steamy (sizzling) hot--I turned to Elle Thorne's Forbidden, featuring a family of weretigers in Italy. Another novella which had gotten lost on my Kindle. Rafe believes himself to be in love with his half brother's mate and is not looking forward to their visit. But then he meets Jax and helps her out of a bind with her parents. One thing leads to another, and it becomes clear that the two are fated to be together. Will Jax be able to accept Rafe's animal side?
This one is a bit more sexually graphic than my usual romance reading fare, admittedly, but I can't say I wasn't warned going in. Jax seems like a smart woman, although I question her taste in men. Rafe is definitely a step up--several steps up, in fact, from her old boyfriend. Because this story is so short, everything happens fast, and it really did feel like it was too fast. I would like to have had just a little more conflict between the two main characters, perhaps. I would not mind reading more of Thorne's work. Maybe just something longer next time.
Rafe needs space because his brother came bringing his pregnant wife. A wife Rafe thinks he has feelings for, till he meets Jax.
Jax needs him to play along when her parents come for an unexpected visit. But having time together means their feelings blossom quickly. I like that part about her dream.
We really did not need to extra crap about the boyfriend she had, it was both over-the-top and cliche. The tattoo plot twist was nice, but lacked explanation on why it would heat up. This story had potential, there were just a few too many holes and overfilled piles for me to remember this story tomorrow.
Okay give me a white tiger anyday. Really cute and a darn good book. I feel like I have read another book with a similar subject but for the life of me I have no idea what it was. I will probably go back and read the next books in this series because it was well worth it.
Jax and Rafe meet and BAM! - they're together. It's love at first sight to the nth degree. I'm so glad he's found someone so he doesn't continue to pine for Callie. That has been uncomfortable. But Jax is awesome for and with Rafe.
Rafe and Jax’s Story was everything I hoped it would be. It was different in a strange and eerie kind of way. No hints from here you’ll just need to read it. It was really good.
I adored Jax and Rafe. It was great to see him find his true mate and finally get over his obsession with Callie. I liked that this story was slightly different in that Jax had been dreaming of Rafe’s tiger for a long time before they met. It made the insta-love easier to accept in this faster than normal pace novella. Yeah, all the shifters pretty much have instant recognition when they see their mates, but sometimes things take a bit more work to get in the same page. Not so for this couple. Jax was on board the moment Rafe revealed his secret. I hope we have not seen the last of this couple as they could easily become a favorite for me. Thanks, Elle, for another great read.
Forbidden is the first story in the series Never After Dark – another spinoff series from Elle Thorne’s popular Shifters Forever series. I will be honest and say that I’m coming into this original series late. With the thousands of novels and new to me authors that I want to read ‘out there’ it’s impossible to find all of those that I would love to follow all of their work. With one sexy, steamy, intriguing and entertaining story I have found another writer of amazing shifter tales that I need to know more about.
Rafe Tiero is currently in a rough situation – picking up Vax and Callie. Rafe was convinced that he had lost the woman of his dreams to Vax, that she and Vax were mated, happy and expecting their first child was a reality, one he was struggling to accept. But accept it he must. After dropping the couple off at the family villa, Rafe sets out for some time alone never realizing that he was about to run into his true mate – or that he would finally fully understand the bond that held Vax and Callie together.
Jax was stunning, a barista with a loser boyfriend. And trouble in paradise in the form of a visit from the parents that didn’t approve of the loser. In desperation Jax begs the handsome stranger who has been watching her for help. Why she decided he was safe enough to approach with such a request is beyond her panicked mind. His eyes remind her of her constant dream, he seems right to trust for whatever unknown instinct that is in place.
Rafe and Jax are attracted to each other on levels that Jax doesn’t understand, but Rafe does. His tiger is making his voice very clear about what he wants done with this woman. Hot, steamy and sensuous are probably the best way to describe these two together.
I don’t intend to give away more. You need to experience the fiery attraction and resolution of Jax and Rafe’s romance for yourself. All I can hint at is – turn up the air conditioner. *wink*
Forbidden is a hot and steamy fast read, a completely enjoyable and addictive read. I would not hesitate to highly recommend this novella to any reader who loves paranormal romance – especially shifters. Since this series is a spinoff, I am heading back to Amazon to start at the very beginning… I enjoyed it that much. And I think that is telling. When one story can touch me enough to spark my imagination and want to know the whole story, then I’ve made an amazing discovery. If you’ve followed Ms Thorne’s work then you know you’re in for a treat with Forbidden – if this is the first time you’ve thought about reading her work, then you are in for a wonderful experience and I hope you enjoy Forbidden as much as I did.
*I received an e-ARC of Forbidden from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. That does not change what I think of this novel.*
Destiny. Fate. Do they really exist for all of us or just a select few? Jax Vasquez, and Rafe Tiero are about to discover their destiny and how it has been spiraling toward each other since they were teens.
Jax doesn’t have the best relationship with her parents and tries very hard to separate herself from them, even to the point of moving to another country. Since she was 13, Jax has had dreams of a white tiger with piercing blue eyes. She has felt comforted and safe when dreaming of the tiger, emotions she doesn’t feel with anyone else. Jax’s parents have mocked and humiliated her over the tiger dreams, the tiger tattoo she got, and the fact she sought a psychics help. But Jax knows there is something to the tiger and she knows someday the answers will come.
When Jax moves to Italy for her education, her life continues as it has. She can look forward to long school hours, an insensitive boyfriend and avoiding her parents demeaning comments. Then she meets Rafe who makes her feel things but can’t figure out why. When her parents decide on an impromptu visit, Jax enlists Rafe in a scheme to pretend they are a couple. Rafe agrees to Jax’s plan but with his agreement comes with a catch. When Jax finds out what it will be and what it will cost her, what will she do?
Rafe is a white tiger shifter with a few secrets of his own. Rafe is infatuated with his half-brother’s mate. His tiger doesn’t feel the same, but Rafe wanted her and then lost her to his brother Vax. When Vax and Callie arrive in Italy, Rafe leaves the villa to avoid them. He never imagined he would find Jax in a small café and she would not only intrigue him but his tiger as well. When she asks that he pretend to be her boyfriend, Rafe agrees but only if she agrees to be his for the weekend around his family.
When Jax’s parents mention her Tiger tattoo, Rafe is caught off guard. When he finally hears the story of her White Tiger dreams, Rafe decides it is time to show Jax his secret place and how destiny has played into their being together.
When the truth of Rafe’s family and her dreams collide will Rafe convince Jax that she is meant to be his mate forever or will the truth be too much for her to endure? Will Rafe’s family keep them apart? What is the destiny their pasts have brought them to face?
A recommended short read with characters you will instantly love. The first in a series you are bound to want to read through. Enjoy the shifters that Elle Thorne has created that began in the Never After Dark and continue in this spin off series, Always After Dark.
I received this free copy from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Can't tell you how much I enjoyed it. Loved it and was hoping to read about Rafe! I really felt bad for him because at the beginning he was still so hung up on Callie. Which she knew this and I think Vax thought he was over it. So, when they arrived and Rafe picked them up at the airport it was difficult for him to say the least. However....it didnt last long til he met the luscious Jax. She's so very fiery and sassy! He happens to save her butt when her parents come to visit. She's got a boyfriend but hes totally worthless and Rafe fixes it to where he jets out of town lol. Rafe wants her...oh man and he's a little freaked about the tiger tattoo and her dreaming of a white tiger who is actually him. He's over it quickly though. She's just something else. Comes across as bitchy but she's really not as we get to know her character. Come to find out the tiger shes been dreaming about for years happens to be Rafe. Shes apprehensive in telling him anything because shes been ridiculed for years for saying anything to her mom about it. Once she does he shows her his tiger and shes totally ecstatic that shes not nuts! LOL. A very sweet and sexy story. Miah...I kinda feel bad for her and hopefully we get something more about her. Sofia is in trouble again...big surprise! LOL. I sincerely hope Gio gets his stuff together otherwise he's gonna lose all his kids and wont ever get to have a relationship with his grand kids. Kinda sad but hope for the best. Its not over yet! :) Give us more Elle!
Forbidden is a short introduction to Elle Thorn's Never After Dark series, a white tiger shapeshifter romance.
While the story takes a pretty tried and true course - impossibly handsome, but broody Adonis-esque Alpha male is single despite all odds and happens upon the perfectly normal, slightly unique and not model material woman who has no idea about shifters. They fall into bed together and then into mated love - and offers nothing new to the paranormal romance or shifter romance genres, the writing flowed well and was an easy read.
Despite the expected outcome and actions by the characters, I did actually like Jax, at least up until she didn't bat an eyelid at something that should have caused even some sort of reaction.
Rafe is fairly generic alpha material, all animalistic and domineering, broody dark god that he is. He seems to be part porn star too, his ability to make Jax gush seemed a little too easy.
Overall this is an enjoyable, quick paranormal shifter romance with a little sexy time. Nothing groundbreaking or fresh, but still entertaining and engaging.
One thing I noticed:
22% - Chapter is at the top of the paragraph text.
**Note: I was given an electronic copy of this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review**
This review is from: Forbidden: BBW Paranormal Shape Shifter Romance (Never After Dark Book 1) (Kindle Edition)
Nursing his broken heart in a coffee shop, Rafe watches the sassy, tattooed barista interacting with her loser boyfriend and eavesdrops on her phone conversation with her mother. (You know that shifter hearing is amazing!) What happens as a result will change his life forever as he learns more about curvy Jacqueline (Jax), his tiger is more than on board with this new relationship. Their characters are so engaging, funny, and totally enjoyable. The backdrop for this story doesn't disappoint either. What better place to find your true mate than Rome? A sexy, gorgeous Italian tiger shifter and a gutsy, independent American pin-up goddess; what could be better? Some hot & steamy romance? It's got that too. I loved this book and am looking forward to more in this series. Can't get enough of Elle's tiger shifters!
What can you say about Elle Thorne as an author? She is awesome. I have read all of her books that I could get my hands on, and they're all equally as good. When Forbidden first started, I was worried about Rafe and his feelings for Callie. I actually almost thought that she was his mate as well, but then Jax showed up. Who would have thought a cup of coffee could change your life?
Jax needs someone to help her with her parents since they hate her current loser boyfriend. He just takes money and sits in her apartment playing games all day refusing to get a job. Rafe's tiger starts fighting him when they first met, but when he finds out about her tiger tattoo he begins to really take notice. Rafe becomes even more sure they are meant to be. He takes Vax to his families estate and for the first time Callie doesn't effect him in any way.
Rafe and Jax together have great chemistry and just makes you happy that they found each other, both because of her dreams and tattoo and his happiness at finding his mate. Can't wait for the next book by Elle.
Its Rafe's time to shine and Ms. Thorne doesn't disappoint. Our wounded tortured hero is about to come in to his own and it only took one smart snarky female to shake things up and make his tiger sit up and roar. Jax is completely different then Callie and even thought she might also need to be rescued she is not going to go quietly. I loved the interactions between the two characters, they are clipped, snappy, funny and just what Rafe needs, a challenge. Even though my heart hurt for him when Vax and Callie arrived, I was pleased to see that he worked out his feelings and finally listened to his tiger. A couple of twist and turns keep you guessing and left me wondering if there is more at play then Ms. Thorne let on. ( she is sneaky like that) This is going to be another great series with strong characters, great dialogue and stories that you can't wait to finish and hate to see end.
What an awesome book and the first I've ever read by this author! It has an engaging unique story-line that grabbed me from the start, kept me interested and turning pages right thru the end. Great details & descriptions, and witty dialogue between the entertaining characters, too. But make sure to have the A/C on & some frosty cold drinks handy from the steamy hot & sexy love scenes, coz Ms. Thorne knows how to turn the heat up ;) I also loved the touches of humor throughout that made this a fun, enjoyable read, and now has me craving more from this talented author. Even tho I was gifted a copy to read in exchange for an honest review, I really did love this awesome read & highly recommend it to all readers who love PNR and especially shifters! Now I can't wait to get my hands on her other books and soon :)
This is the first book of the Never After Dark spin off from Shifters Forever. This series takes place in Europe. Rafe has returned to Italy after a brief visit to the U.S.. While visiting his brother in Texas, Rafe meets Callie and believes she could have been his mate...that is if she hadn't already been his brother Vax's mate to be. Broken hearted Rafe thinks he has lost his chance at love and his forever mate. A chance encounter at a cafe where he meets Jax makes him second guess himself and his potential for finding his mate. Jax is in a dead end relationship with a user and a loser. She just doesn't seem to think she deserves better than Scotty the gamer. A surprise visit from her parents and a gorgeous stranger will change her life forever.
Forbidden tells the love story of Rafael "Rafe" Tiero and Jaclyn "Jax" Vasquez.
I liked this story a lot. There is great chemistry between the characters. I love it when the female characters is strong, smart, feisty and can hold her own. Rafe is just so hot, yummy and sweet. I just love his character. I wish that Ms. Thorne wrote series that continued with some of the same characters only on new adventures. She has come up with some great characters that need more then just one book and the occasional guest spot. Rafe is one of them.
This is my first book by Elle thorne and I have to say I was extremely impressed. This book seems to be Rafe's turn to find his forever. Callie may not be his mate but the sting is still there. He is happy his brother is happy, but he wanted Callie.
A chance encounter with a barista changes everything for Rafe. For Jax, Rafe draws her to him. She can't keep her eyes or her attraction away from him. When he comes to her rescue and helps her deal with her parents, she feels obligated to help him on his weekend.
Their attraction is strong, they are destined to be together. His tiger knows it. I really enjoyed this book.
The book was ok. It was interesting, but I just felt something was missing. I am up on hey it is fate wham we are in love, but there was like no development to get there. At first he sees her and doesn't feel anything then all of a sudden he has to have her because of her tattoo? Kinda pushing it there. I like the idea of the fortune teller and the tattoo, but it could have been a better developed story to start with her story and why she was in Italy. The pull between them would seem more real. The author could have had them as teens dreaming about each other. More drama more build up = better story!
Totally enjoyed this book. The Tiero family can be a pain in the but and Sophie is tried of trying to please her father so she plans an act of rebellion. She plans to run away from her overbearing family. Little does she know her family is one step ahead of her. Enter Niko ex military who is hired to guard her with his life to keep her safe from harm. Follow along to see what happens when one very head strong woman meets one head strong man can they put the lies behind them and become one. The shifter sides know what they need can the human side agree
