I am giving this series a 2.75 star rating. This is the story of Avery Martin and Burke Stone. Avery works in an antiques store. She has been working there to basically pay for her younger brother's college education. Since he is close to graduating she doesn't know what to do with her life. She feels her brother is growing into adulthood and won't need her anymore. She is now thinking of having a self-exploration of what she wants to do with her life. Go back to school? Quit her job with her boss Margot, who she feels doesn't appreciate her and is intimated by her beauty?
One day Margot tells Avery to keep a customer occupied until she comes back to the store. Avery was not to engage the customer. Margot was staking her claim to that particular customer. In walks Burke. Unknown her Avery, Burke has been fawning over her for 9 years. He has been keeping tabs on her and her brother due to a sense of duty. He cannot control himself around her. When he saw her he thought he would have been able to ask her out, but it moved so fast that he wanted to take her to bed right then and there. While flirting he could feel she was attracted to him too.
They had an amazing night of sex. But what threw me off was that he wanted to tell her he was a dominant and when he did Avery was so casual about it. The next day Burke sends a gift and Margot sensed they were together and made accusations, which made Avery look at Burke differently. Why would she believe anything Margot says? She knows that Margot is jealous and vindictive. Some of the things she said could have been true, but she knows the words were said to cut her.
The theme of this series for me was lies can change the status of a relationship. There were lies on both sides. Things in this book moved a little fast, but I do want to see how Avery and Burke get back together. Throughout the series Avery's brother, Adam, was the voice of reason for her. Margot was still a presence to get Avery to doubt herself and what she means to Burke. She was figuring out what she liked about the relationship; she realized she had to get over the indignity to fully enjoy it. I wished there was more to the reconnection of Avery and Burke after the breakup. It was too simple for me. I wanted to read about his actions to do that and her thoughts during that time. Also I am wondering what it is about Avery that had him whipped and stuck on her for 9 years. I didn't really find an answer in this book. Burke stated that he think he fell for her at the trial for her being strong for her brother, but that, for me, would elicit more of an admiration from him.
The major drawbacks to this book was that the end of the installments were completely unresolved. It didn't leave a reader wanting more. It didn't pull someone to read the next installment. Also the end was abrupt, and that's what made the rating the way it was.
My reading of Whipped part one precipitated my buying of Whipped the complete series. Avery is a young lady working at an antique shop. Her boss is this mean and spiteful lady named Margot. This billionaire named Burke is supposed to be coming to the shop and Margot had her claws out to get him. She is surprised that Burke was interested in Avery and not her. The reason why he's interested in Avery and how they get together you will have to read. This is a series but it is not long and It is easy reading.
Some of the scenes kinda reminded me of 50 shades of grey, the possessiveness, the spanking, her not wanting to accept his money. I don't know why books about doms and submissives always have the same stuff. But I must say that I loved the focus on "Forgiveness". That part spoke to me on another level, as I am also battling with it. It's given me a new perspective and I'm thankful for that. All in all, it was a pretty decent read.
I very much enjoyed this new author. The synopsis is what captured my attention, which is a rarity... This book had spice at a 3/5 level when it occurred, but also over the top sweetness. I also liked how the storyline didn't get lost in the "dirty" parts of the book. I look forward to adding this author to my list.
Whipped, was a story about forgivness and undying love! Avery's life had changed forever the day a driver had killed her parents in a car accident. Little did she suspect that life had plans for her to find the man of her dreams! Turns out Burke was the missing piece to Avery's puzzle!
