Without a Word: Living Abundantly as the Wife of an Unbeliever

Rate this book
Written by a woman who has lived this out first hand, Without a Word provides a roadmap, describing how a Christian woman can live joyfully and confidently in the power of the Holy Spirit, effectively revealing the person of Christ to her unbelieving husband ‘Without a Word’ (1 Peter 3:1-2).

Author Sheryll Robinson provides a candid, honest and open discussion about the challenges and fears faced by women of faith whose husbands are not believers. Spanning the course of a marriage now more than 47 years strong, her book offers a fresh perspective on living out Christianity in every day life for any Christian woman. This is a great book for Christian women who want to get more joy out of life, instill a deeper understanding of the love and esteem God has for women of faith, or for those in ministry who need to better understand the unique needs of women in their churches.

Do not let the amount of time it took me to finish this book mislead you into thinking it is not a fabulous read!! Two years ago, as I was growing in my faith, I had become very disheartened by my husbands lack of interest in anything involving Jesus or the church...I was actually feeling quite depressed. I would have to practically beg him to come to church with me on Sunday's, he didn't understand my involvement in the church, and I felt very, very emotionally separated from him due to this. When he did not attend church with me, I would feel forced to make up excuses for him. As I often do when upset, I sought a book to help me through. I did a search for "married to an unbeliever" on Amazon, and three books came up, with this being one. I immediately ordered, and it was one of the best purchases I have ever made.

As soon as I got the book, I began to read. I read about 2/3 of the book before I put it down (can't remember why now), and that 2/3's CHANGED MY LIFE!!! The biggest "peace" for me, the most freeing piece, was discovering that I was not responsible for my husband's salvation! On top of that, if he made the decision not to come to church, I did not need to make up excuses, I just needed to be brief and honest. MY ONLY RESPONSIBILITIES regarding my husband's salvation were to pray, and to model the Fruits of the Spirit in my home.

Everything changed because of this book!! My husband's faith has grown, I no longer felt pressure regarding my husband's salvation, and I had permission to love him regardless of weather or not he ever became a believer. I don't know the exact state of his heart, but, over the last two years, we began attending church regularly as an entire family, I know that he prays regularly, he thanks the Lord on a regular basis, and fully recognizes that our lives are as blessed as they are only because the good Lord sees fit to make it so.

We do not talk about salvation, but we do have open discussions about God. We have not yet done a couples devotional or Bible Study together, but I pray that one day, in God's perfect timing, we will. I try my best to model the Fruit's of the Spirit in my home, often failing horribly, but waking up the next morning trying again.

I finally picked this book back up and finished the last 1/3 of it, and am again refreshed and renewed to say nothing, keep on praying, and cultivate the Fruit's of the Spirit in my home.

I highly recommend this book for any wife of an unbeliever...it can change it fully, in the most beautiful way...without you every having to say a word!!
