Nocturne Falls #3

The Gargoyle Gets His Girl

Rate this book
Welcome to Nocturne Falls, the town where Halloween is celebrated 365 days a year. The tourists think it's all a show: the vampires, the werewolves, the witches, the occasional gargoyle flying through the sky. But the supernaturals populating the town know better. Living in Nocturne Falls means being yourself. Fangs and all.

Willa Iscove, fae jeweler, has her first stalker. Really, he’s just one of her lovesick customers. The ring she crafted to help him find new love has backfired, making Willa the object of his affections. In a bid to rid herself of her amorous client, Willa makes a wish in the Nocturne Falls fountain using the piece of opal in her pocket and in doing so, unknowingly conscripts as her guardian the sexy gargoyle on duty.

Former Army Ranger and gargoyle Nick Hardwin has some serious suspicions about the pretty fae who just invoked the ancient pact for protection. Her kind have been at odds with his kind for ages. Now she wants his help? He’s determined to figure out what she’s up to. Which won’t be a hardship considering how much fun she is to be around. And kiss.

But then her stalker turns out to be the tip of the iceberg and things go really wrong, really fast. When Nick and Willa are both kidnapped, Willa is forced to make a hard decision. The life of her family or the freedom of the man she’s fallen for?

Another cute paranormal romance for the series!

Nick, the gargoyle is a retired military man just trying to make a new life in Nocturne Falls. Then he meets Willa, a beautiful fae that can control metal and stone. She’s been on the run most of her life due to her parents and culture. I really enjoyed Willa’s magical abilities in the book.

Both characters have hurdles to jump over and issues to resolve. Their races are natural enemies and the Fae have enslaved Gargoyles for centuries.

The romance is light-hearted, low on steaminess and high on instalove. I did enjoy how the main characters met though. There’s plenty of Fae action and intrigue involved in the book. I enjoyed this story and especially reading about new shapeshifters like a gargoyle. Fun stuff!

The Gargoyle Gets His Girl is book three in the Nocturne Falls series by Kristen Painter.

This is a quirky series. It’s fun and enjoyable. I like the concept of Nocturne Falls and it’s town full of supernaturals.

We meet Nick, the gargoyle a retired military man who is trying to make a life in Nocturne Falls. We also meet Willa, a Fae who can control metal and stone. She is the resonant jeweler.

Both have hurdles to jump over and issues to resolve. I like Willa. She’s strong and smart. I also liked Nick. He was a unique Gargoyle.

Their romance is light-hearted. It’s an instalove, yet this one took a little longer, but still instalove. I liked how Nick and Willa meet. I also liked learning about Willa’s past. There’s plenty of intrigue and Fae action.

The Gargoyle Gets His Girl was an enjoyable read.

OK, I'm already invested in this quirky little series, so the fact that this particular book didn't really do it for me isn't going to keep me from continuing.
There was nothing wrong with it, I just never felt invested in the story or its characters. I didn't find their connection and ultimate attraction believable. I know Painter believes in love at first sight, so I guess I just have to get used to that as the books continue.
Three solid stars and now I'm on to The Professor Woos The Witch!

Wasn't sure how much I really wanted to read a story that starred the previously meet, in the series, Fae (Willa, town jeweler) and Gargoyle (security guard Nick). But the story turned out to be actually a lot more interesting, and humorous (lightly humorous) than expected.

Quite liked the tall rugged somewhat stiff (as stone) Nick, and the cat loving Willa.

Not sure what else to mention. Hmm. Part of the story takes place in a faerie kingdom in Arkansas. Yep, that's all I can think of to say.

I just love every visit to Nocturne Falls because it always leaves me happy!

Welcome to Nocturne Falls, the town where Halloween is celebrated 365 days a year. The tourists think it's all a show: the vampires, the werewolves, the witches, the occasional gargoyle flying through the sky. But the supernaturals populating the town know better.

This book focuses on Nick, a Gargoyle who becomes one of the towns characters in order to oversee the town where some crimes have recently been reported and Willa the fae jeweller whose magical creations are far more than normal pieces of jewellery. They are magical works of art. Unfortunately Willa makes a ring for a rock troll who develops a stalkeresque fascination with willa.
Willa makes a wish at the town fountain where unknowingly, she binds the gargoyle to herself.

The title kind of gives the ending away but trust me when I say that this cozy supernatural mystery has a lot more to offer and I loved the journey. This is a wonderful book that is beautifully written!

I continue to love all of Kristen Painter's books. She makes each of them so funny and light-hearted, even when her characters are in hot water. I love that I can sit down to read one and escape for a few hours to the land of Nocturne Falls where everything turns out all right in the end. Just cute, sweet, romantic reads.

This was a cute paranormal romance. It made for nice, simple, light easy reading. No great angst etc. It was a very tame read. No vulgarity that I recall. I really liked the numerous paranormal beings and the fun world that was created in Nocturne Falls. I'll definitely read more of this series when I am in the mood for a sweet paranormal romance and not a lot of unnecessary drama. I do, however, feel this book was quite overpriced at its current listing of $4.99.

I really enjoy these books and love the universe of Nocturne Falls. That probably has a lot to say why I didn’t seem to enjoy this one as much as book two. About half of the story does not take place in Nocturne Falls but in another location which was a little disappointing because the reason I love the series is all the citizens of that crazy little town.

The two main characters Nick and Willa are adorable though. I really liked the fact that these two were actually wishing to find their true loves and I enjoyed their story. As with the other books, there is always multiple roadblocks to their happy ending but I also enjoyed how it was always these two together no stupid trope like a misunderstanding or miscommunication. The two main conflicts were just okay. The stalker I thought should have been more in the forefront versus the issue with Willa’s past.

My main concern with the series right now is almost all of the conflict resides with the female characters and the men are there to either save them, protect them or motivate them. I would like to see one in the series where the guy has more of the conflict.

The narrator of B.J. Harrison for these audiobooks makes them really come to life. The whole universe of Nocturne Falls lives in the voice box of B.J. Harrison and there is no other voice that will do.

**I was lucky enough to receive and ARC of this book from the author**

This is the third book in the Nocturne Falls series by Kristen Painter and I am totally addicted!

Each of these books could probably be read quite successfully as a stand alone but my recommendation is to start at the beginning because there are some references to the prior stories (but nothing that you absolutely "need" to know to enjoy the story).

This book follows some of the rarer paranormal creatures - ones that you don't expect to take the lead in a love story but hey meet your new favorite Gargoyle! Taking you on a totally new spin on traditional mythos despite this not being one of the vampy books I think this is my favorite so far!

Steeped in magic and mystery I could not put this down. Each page just convinced me that 1. This place needs to exist so I can move there and 2. THIS NEEDS TO BE ON TV ... preferably with me working as the person explaining how things need to be! Seriously - hire me! I know EXACTLY how it all works ;)

Another easy 5 stars from me! Bring on book 4!!!! V""V

The Gargoyle Gets a His Girl by Kristen Painter

Nick, the gargoyle is swoon worthy. He's a protector. He's kind and gentle. Yes, at times he is made of stone. Literally. But his heart is anything but stone. He owns his own home anticipating a family some day. He worries about how he appears to innocent children. He deserves to find a true forever love. I really enjoyed getting to know Nick in this story.

This is the third in the Nocture Falls series by Kristen Painter. It's a little on the campy side. The town portrays Halloween every day of the year so that vampires, werewolves, witches and fae can live openly. To the tourists, it's all in good fun. You do not need to read the prior books in this series to enjoy this cute g-rated romance.

Willa is fae-born and has the power to imbue metal with charms and incantations. She's made a ring for a rock troll who has developed a stalker like crush on her. Willa makes a wish at the town fountain where unknowingly, she binds the gargoyle to herself. Nick doesn't believe that Willa actually knows what she's done but he will proceed cautiously to find out. At least until the two develop a crush on each other.

“But he was already bound to protect her. What else could she want from him? Maybe the wild and wanton use of his body.
He wouldn’t put up a fight if that was the case.”

Another entertaining read from a fun series. I think this may just be my favourite so far. Will is fae and ran her way from her family and her life she didn't want when she was a teenager and has found her place in Nocturne Falls. Nick is a gargoyle and ex-army ranger also looking to put down roots in Nocturne Falls. After a misunderstanding accidentally binds Nick to Willa, the two start to realise they actually have a lot in common...

The storyline in this book was a little different from the last two which made it all the more fun and I liked that we are starting to learn more about the different supernaturals of Nocturne Fallsbut still got to visit with some familiar ones. I really liked Willa and may have swooned just a little bit over nick. ;-P

Like the first two books, this story was an insanely quick but entertaining, relatively uncomplicated read with all the warm and fuzzies that a good sweet romance brings.

Cute fun and entertaining. I look forward to reading more of this series

The Gargoyle Gets His Girl is the third book in Painter’s Nocturne Falls series, and I loved it! I loved the history between the two main characters species, I loved the tension that faced them to begin with, and then the trials they had to get through together. It was sweet, funny, light and so much fun. A must read for fans of this series!

The Gargoyle Get His Girl was like revisiting a favourite vacation place. You know the feeling? When you happy to be back, because the place is so beautiful and fun, but also to see the locals, that you get to know better after each visit and then there is the expectation of adventures to come and some well deserved me time thrown in with it.
That's in fact exactly what I got out of this...

Nocturne Falls is a seriously cool place and Painter more than reinforced that with the third instalment in the series.
Let me just say this first up: I am hoping that Painter is going to write many more books set in the world of Nocturne Falls. To be frank, I am thinking basically any single character that has popped up in the series would make an awesome book... But I might be able to settle for a few less, if at least we get one of each Ellingham Brother. I could possibly live with that. Then I also want one for Sam, oh well.. It's going to be hard to settle.

This is really due to the incredible Character building skill of Painter. I feel like I know the townies of Nocturne Falls, even when some of them have only been mentioned briefly.
I already liked Nick in Mailorder Bride- in fact I put him in on of my top spots of the Painter-needs-to-write-a-book-for-this-character list. So I was pleased to get to know him better. I still adore Nick, in fact I think he is one of my favourite characters in the series. I totally could relate to him, understood many of his hangups ect.
Willa was mysterious and probably a wee bit odd in the first couple of books.. And then I read the first chapter of Gargoyle and I fell in love. Honestly. I don't know if Painter make jewellery? Well, see I am a jewellery designer and she got the working of the metal somehow so right. I mean obviously taking out the magic part.. But a lot of the work is connected to ones intuition, and each metal feels distinctly different when working.. Seriously just this part is completely mind-blowing. I liked to get to know Willa and her story. Again just like the previous novels, Painter somehow does magic when it comes to character building. Well, except for some of the villains- I found the a bit too over the top.. but also very entertaining,

The world building is probably the best in the entire series. The first half of the book is set in Nocturne Falls, so if you read the previous books, then you know what to expect. Just more details are added to it. If you haven't read the previous books, enjoy discovering the magic of Nocturne Falls, since each book can be read as standalone. The world building in the second half is simply astounding. Painter created another beautifully written realm, which I should know she does expertly from all her previous works, but nevertheless I was blown away by it.

Which brings me to Painters writing style. I obviously am a fan of her works. So I don't need to mention I love her prose. Still I am astounded by her talent and craft every time I read something of hers. She has a way with words that leaves me in awe. Simply beautiful written.

The storyline is as the title says, about the Gargoyle that gets his girl. The ending is kinda a given. The frist half is a sweet and lighthearted story, which is what I had come to expect from the series. It made me smile and all happy fuzzy. I did feel the courtship between Willa and Nick went a bit too fast. I would have like some more of the delicious tension between them and more of their sweet banter. More of the commentary of the support cast as well.
Then quite exactly halfway through the whole thing changes. And suddenly we thrown into action, but more so a political explosive environment. Which I really enjoyed as well. I loved that part. I love that world building most. Except it felt like a different book.
The thing though is, that after reading it, I spent a long while thinking about The Gargoyle Get His Girl, and found myself torn. I like both halves but I was not sure if they worked together. And even now, a long while after reading it, I think of this novel in the first part and the second part. Which is why this is a tad lower rated than the other books. Don't misunderstand me. This is still a really good story. It's just a bit disjointed somehow, for me. I honestly couldn't tell you why that is exactly. It's just how I feel about it.

A wonderful, well written PNR, with interesting world building.
Now to the important question? How many more books set in Nocturne Falls will we get read? Which one's next? And most importantly will Painter write one for each Ellingham

After reading this book, I have determined that this is 100% the series for me. I could not have loved this book more. I may be late to the game, but I am so glad to have found this author! I am binging this series after completing the Jayne Frost series by this author. Part way into that series, I discovered that it was a spin off of this series and since it is the same town, many of the characters overlap in each of the books and I have to read each of their stories as well.

The Gargoyle Gets His Girl is book 3 in the Nocturne Falls series. This book is about Willa and Nick. Willa is Fae and the jeweler in Nocturne Falls, Nick is a Gargoyle and relatively new to Nocturne Falls. Nick discovers that Willa needs help with a troublesome client turned stalker and is compelled to help her. There were many twists and turns in this book, the biggest of which both shocked and amazed me. The author did a really great job with planning out this storyline!

The narration is really good. It is the same narrator for the entire series so luckily I like his voices. I'm thankful that the narrator reads both male and female voices equally well.

I am so addicted to this series and this town that I am diving right into book 4 now. I recommend this series.

It took me over a month to read this book, not because it was necessarily bad, but because I was swamped. If I had read this book faster, I probably would’ve enjoyed it a little more.

The Good:
• I really enjoyed the family elements that we got in the book. It was nice to see the family brought together to resolve their differences.

The Meh:
• I love the idea of the setting of Nocturne Falls, where Halloween is celebrated year-round. However, it wasn’t as detailed or descriptive as I would’ve liked. I didn’t feel like I was stepping into an autumnal world.
• The main characters were fine, but they weren’t complex people.
Relationships developed almost obnoxiously fast. It was hard to find it believable that the characters cared for each other so deeply after so little time.

The Bad:
• There are so many communication flaws in this novel. Plot conflicts should occur out of actual conflict, not miscommunication. It’s one of my biggest pet peeves in novels.
• The writing was awkward. There would be scenes explored for pages that did not need to be that long, and other important scenes were skipped over entirely. The choices made regarding which scenes were shown on the page were odd.

Trigger warnings for The Gargoyle Gets His Girl: stalking, mentions of deployment, slavery, kidnapping

Y'all. I wasn't too sure what to expect with this one since I've never read a book with a gargoyle as the MC. A Fae and Gargoyle romance? Color me intrigued.

While I enjoyed the book, it was a bit of a miss for me. I can't really explain why. It was cute and I liked Willa and Nick, but I just wasn't as invested in this one as the others.

But it's not going to stop me from continuing on. I really am enjoying this series. 😊

Content: PG-13 - mild language, innuendo, fade to black scenes, and swoony kisses.

This is the third book in the series I listen to and even though I loved the first two books more, this is still an enjoyable, sweet read. When I need something easy to listen to, I know I can pick up the next book in the series and I won’t be disappointed.

This book is about Nick (a gargoyle) and Willa (a fae who control metal and stone). They are supposed to be enemies as some of her kind can control gargoyles. In the past, faes took gargoyles as slaves and that’s why Nick is wary at first. But she needs protection from her stalker and Nick is here when she needs him.

I didn’t expect .

Overall, a nice and entertaining romance.

Visiting Nocturne Falls is always a fun escape for me. Willa is a metal and stone fae who ran away from home when she was 14. Nick is a gargoyle who retired from the military and is looking to settle down. After his military career, he's a little bored in Nocturne Falls but that doesn't last long when he is recruited to protect Willa. Then the drama begins for both of them. Another entertaining and magical read.

I loved the concept of a gargoyle shifter, a supernatural I’ve never encountered in another novel. Nick was impossibly nice, too! And it was delightful getting to know the fae jeweler we met in the first Nocturne Falls novel when she created the charmed engagement ring. The whole royalty subplot wasn’t really my thing, but the contest that decided the throne was suitably compelling. A lovely tale.

2019 bk. 233. Obviously a gargoyle, Nick, and friend of Sheriff Morrow (book 2), is assigned by the Ellingham's to protect the fae (fairy) jeweler in town when she is stalked by a rock troll. There is more than an obsessed troll to this story as it involves a fight for who will control the future of the fae kingdom of Arkansas.

*** I received an ARC of this book ***

This time time the romance comes about in a different way in Nocturne Falls. No meddling grandmothers or duty-bound marriages. Willa the fae is the local jeweler, and Nick is a gargoyle looking to put down roots after his time in the army rangers. They meet by chance when Nick is standing guard as an "animatronic" gargoyle at the city's fountain, and Willa makes a wish.

I love the fact that in this book, the main characters get to meet by chance instead of force. Things seem to still move a little fast... though I suppose it could be Nick's male ego that can just go up to a girl he doesn't know and ask for a date right then and there. His forwardness is actually helpful to Willa, because it gets her a way out of a potential stalker. Big, beefy former Army Ranger is pretty intimidating by anyones standards.

This book also seemed to have a bit more action and suspense than the previous two. A stalker is problematic (and creepy) enough for everyone, but the addition of being kidnapped and dragged back to Willa's home Fae kingdom brings a feeling of Kristen's other series (namely House of Comarre). Personally, I enjoy more action and badassery over romance being the main focus.

The gargoyle did get his girl, and then some. I can't help but wonder if book 4 will be witchy.

While reading about Nick and Willa, I find myself saying this is my favorite book to date. I am so in love with Nick and then comes Willa the woman who is strong enough for this rough around the edges man (gargoyle).
The start of book 3 of Nocturne Falls just keeps getting more involved with the wonderful Halloween town. Following Nick and Willa will keep you on your toes as this books has some twists and turns. How each character takes care of the other character in just the way Kristen Painter writes, I keep saying this is the place I would love not only visit but to live. What tales could be told, history shared and love to be found. Vampires, werewolves, elves, witches and what some humans thrown in . Nocturne Falls here I come . So I am starting the count down for book 4 and wondering or I could guessing who book 4 is going to be about. Love Nocturne Falls .

*I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review*

I couldn't wait for Nocturne Falls #3, and this one did not surprise! Loved the first two in the series and didn't think it was possible to top those - but Kristen does it again! The Gargoyle Gets His Girl is Nick (the Gargoyle) and Willa's (the Fae) story. Their races are natural enemies, as the Fae have been known to use their powers to enslave the Gargoyles for their own ends. Does Nick protect and fall for Willa because he wants to or because he has been ordered to? You'll have to read the book to find out the answer!

Do yourself a favor and be sure to read the first two in the series before reading this one. While this story can easily stand on its own, it's even more enjoyable when you've read them all together. Awesome reading, I can't wait for the next installment. I'm hooked!
