Betrayed is the first book I have read by Lucy Thorne, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Penelope remembers the day her mom died and her dad became a different person. Her life changed and she was trained to believe in the mission her father began. The night she makes a last minute decision puts her on the route to save an injured wolf that changes the entire course of her life.
I genuinely like Penelope and think she is the perfect female lead. She is strong and steady and chose a career for herself knowing she would have to hide it.
Samson is a great leading man. He was thrust into the position of Alpha at a very young age, striping his childhood and forcing him to make decisions not just for himself but for his entire pack.
I enjoyed watching Penelope and Samson grow closer. He never pushed or rushed her and allowed Penelope to grow into herself. Even though she was uncomfortable in her surroundings, she keep her back straight and head high. She earned the respect she was due and earned the place she eventually received. Samson was always there providing a safety net for Penelope. He was honest and always told her the truth even when certain truths hurt.
Betrayed is a good story that is told in both of the main characters’ POVs and has a happy ending.
Penelope loses her mother at a young age, to wolves. This changes her father, he becomes a different person, obsessed. Horace vows to rid every last one of them.
On her wedding day, Penelope realizes that she can't marry Wyatt. Things have changed, she's being handled, controlled and decides to run. Taking her father's car, she drives and hits something, following the blood trail she finds a naked man? The veterinary in her is quick and she manages to put him in the car. At her clinic, she gets to work and realizes, this man is a wolf? The wound is trying to heal, regenerate but the silver is not letting it. Her father's training kicks in and Penelope gets to work.
Who does Penelope save? Are wolf's real? What really happened years ago? Why does she feel safe in Clearwater territory? Love how the story is told.
I’m a vibes reader, and this hit the vibe I was looking for when I found it. Saw an ad for this book on Instagram. Decided to check it out, I did enjoy it. I like a good shifter/werewolf book. Initially the writing in this book seemed a little bit on the poetic side. I liked it. It did not seem too simplistic.
Quotes—“I fit right in. Runaway bride, stolen car, no plan. Just another Saturday”……. “And now I’m here, in a booth with duct, tape and cheap whiskey, and my bail is on a chair in a room I can never go back to” “I blink. Good looks mean nothing when the owner is a werewolf. He doesn’t move.”
“You we’re humming out loud. In a shared kitchen, Sampson. It sounded like a cat called in a dryer.”
Lucy Thorne opens with Penelope, a compelling main character whose first big decision leads us straight into a plot filled with characters I want to see more of.
The descriptions and interactions gradually build the relationships between Penelope and the people around her in ways that work to drive the story. The resolution of the main conflict feels earned as the result of the time showing who the characters are and what drives them.
Izza is a delight, as are Samson (especially interacting with Sunshine, a late-appearing character).
Fast, entertaining, characters you cheer for and like. Intriguing storyline. Yes, it's kind of easy to figure out things but the crescendo was good, solid and the epilogue complete. The writing was well-done and smooth; keeping you in the story ane suspension of disbelief, which is key to a story immersion. This author is new for me, def going to enjoy more. On to the next!
This was a great read. I couldn't put it down! The characters are well written, the plot was interesting, and the tension and spice was perfect. I highly recommend!
This was a quick read with a lot of feelings and life damages to be faced. I liked that she had a backbone, that he cared about people and that they acknowledged the attraction and walked it thru instead of running and/or angsting over it
I have an unwritten standard. If I'm not into the characters and plot by chapter 3, the book is relegated to the DNF pile. For this story, I kept reading. I'm happy I did. While a slow start, this story about Penelope & Samson was satisfying.
I really loved this story, these characters became near to my heart. I have to agree with the author’s requirements for her stories. They make them so good and satisfying and good for the heart and soul.
Just a question…… are these books written using AI??? I read to 70% and something feels really off with this story. It is very clumsy, the punctuation is all over the place, and it has very little flow. The author has also published a lot of books in a few weeks.
