A true treasure of spiritual insights, this little booklet contains the remarkable meditations on the Agony of Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane by Blessed Padre Pio, the stigmatist priest. One of his few writings, the booklet also includes many pictures of Blessed Padre Pio from throughout his ministry. Padre Pio's beautiful and descriptive manner of writing provide a wonderful spiritual insight into that last night of Jesus' human life.
Anyone that has experienced Padre Pio intercessions knows it is and experience like no other.
So to is his explanation of Jesus suffering for our sins, it is not something I can put into words what I felt when reading this book, only that I had a deep experience while reading it, and that something has changed inside me for the better. I would even go so far as to say that I already know I will read this book over and over again just trying to recapture what I felt the first time I read The Agony of Jesus.
A true gem of a book that I would recommend to anyone, because in the end the things in this world that can bring us closer to Jesus can only improve and enrich our life's.
God bless🙏 and Happy Reading 📕
Thank You Padre Pio for This Book and your unbreakable Faith🙏
This small book is a window into the agony of Jesus in the garden. It touched my heart and enabled me to place myself at the scene, to better understand the true reality of Christ's unimaginable suffering for all of us. I intend to read it often as I pray and grow closer to Him Thank you Padre Pio.
This booklet is a very a powerful treatise on the time leading to the betrayal of Judas. Looking at the Love and trust between the Father and the Son ::) it most important is the sacrifice that Jesus was to make for all. A great read during Lent and a book I will read again and again .
Padre Pio's beautiful yet heartbreaking meditation on Jesus' Agony in the Garden of Gethsemane. St. Pio, who bore the wounds of Christ himself visible in the stigmata, must have known to a great extent, by the grace of God, the pain and suffering our Lord endured that night. Anything I write here cannot compete with the wise and pious words of that great mystic and saint of the last century; you will have to read it for yourself.
Short sweet explanation of the Passion of Jesus who suffered so willingly for us.
Excellently written and thought out. There an ease of reading . It is fluent and profound. Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, may the whole world burn with love for Thee!
Wonderful Meditation on the Agony in the Garden! If you are looking for a heart full meditation on the passion, this is a good one! Padre Pio never lets us down!
This short, and it is short, is an amazing meditation on the agony in the garden of Jesus. Written by St. Pio it is so worth the time. Be prepared to go deeper.
I literally just finished the recent film done about Padre Pio and it left me wanting for more of his spiritual perspective. This was pretty much what I was looking for. Didn’t “blow me away” since it’s mainly just a recounting of the crucifixion which Christ envisioned in the garden while awaiting his capture. That being said seeing Padre Pio’s perspective on this was fairly interesting and worth the minute amount of time it took to read. (It’s 43 pages but quite literally half of those pages are pictures)
"Jesus has pity on them saying: 'The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak'"
This is a quote I got from this book, explaining our lack of will on various of his callings. This is my introductory book to the words of Padre Pio, even though it is a short book I can confirm that it holds much more meaning that what is written. This book makes you understand much further the pain of Jesus on the Garden of Gethsemane, his vision on his suffering on the path to mount Calvary, the deign of Jesus to our weakness and the actions we take on the sacrifice of His for the salvation of humanity.
I loved the structure and introduction to imaginative prayer and meditation as it relates to Jesus’s agony in the garden. I had a very hard time listening to the seventeenth-century English anytime there was dialogue present, even when the narrator was speaking to Jesus in prayer. Thee and thou and thjne interspersed with the modern day English of the imagery was so jarring I had difficulty absorbing the text during those parts. This text was written in 1974 so perhaps a more modern translation would not have quite the jarring effect.
As usual, PadrePio, captures the emotion and desolation of Jesus. Reading t
his mediation brings me right into the Garden of Gethsamene. He perfectly narrates the Agony, but also the disciples' weaknesses and the inability to even stay awake this complying His Agony in not staying awake to comfort Him. Even His own Father seems to.abandon Him ina His last hour. He has no one to comfort Him an d that is the ultimate desertion.
A very beautiful meditation on the agony that Christ experienced just before his betrayal and crucifixion. Full of emotion and very sad. I’m not very familiar with Padre Pio as a Saint aside from his stigmata, and I can tell from this that he was a great and holy man. I will definitely be revisiting this in the future as it’s very spiritually efficacious and the graces therein are undoubtedly powerful.
It's all illustrated by words, by deep feeling ... Oh Jesus don't let us away of you, it doesn't matter how but as your father wants to, guide us by the way...
I'm really happy of reading , I was having problems with downloads and now I got it .. A great reading for one and other time ...
I love St Padre Pio & his writings. His words are powerful & profound. My visualization of Jesus in the garden has become more vivid & emotional. His sacrifice for us & for our salvation is more clear. I use St Pio's imagery now when I pray the sorrowful mysteries of the rosary. I honestly wish we had more writings from him. What a thoughtful, reverent, & faithful person he was.
From the tender loving heart of Padre pio to his Lord and Master comes this intimate journey to the heart of the cross of calvary. No one has lived the pains of Christ in our times as much as St Pio with the 5 wounds of the crucifixtion appearing on his body for 50 years
This helps me, a targeted individual, know suffering is not in vain, and it helps me to know that jesus is very open and forgiving, aware that the devil torments but still waiting for us to make our oblations — our sacrifices —- whatever we can make happen in the name of all that is good.
If you are or working toward being an intellectual, I highly recommend this short book. Why? Because Padre Pio's words are not easily interpreted. He manages to load a short sentence with so much meaning you almost have to pause every other sentence to attempt to extract all you can from his message.
This is a beautiful meditation to return to many times- for those who love to meditate on Christ’s sufferings. Helpful to gain insights into the mystery of his suffering in the Garden of Olives
It gives deep insights about our spiritual life and the spirituality of Padre Pio. Makes any struggle seem so small compared to the great presence of God in our life.
The Agony of Jesus comes alive in Padre Peo’s meditations that coincide with the celebration of the Mass! This is a clear picture of the stages of Jesus’s suffering for our. sins. Truly Soul affective!
I read this book during Adoration after the Holy Thursday Mass. It was incredibly beautiful and the perfect book to meditate on His Agony in the Garden. I will definitely read it again next Holy Thursday.
Eloquent and holy a lived insight from Padre Pio who encapsulates the garden of gethsemane. A must read for anyone on the path to sanctity and a holy life
