The Romance Review

Abuse in the BDSM community is just as common as it is in the vanilla community. Predators are everywhere and is inexcusable. Betsy is a submissive who went through sub frenzy. She's the person who finally found her missing piece to her whole and dove into the deep end without any safety device and little heed to training. This is not to say that Betsy is at fault for putting herself in an abusive situation. It is to say that despite all warnings, even the most level headed can make mistakes.

This depressing story continues off where Friends Like These ends. Betsy is rescued by a few members of the Suncoast Society. She's battered, embarrassed, frightened and feeling guilty. All of these emotions are well captured and painfully exposed to the reader. As Betsy fights to get back on her feet, Nolan and Kenny are there to help her recovery. It's not going to be a simple path as much of the emotional trauma is not easy for Betsy to overcome, especially after being heinously manipulated by her asshole boyfriend pretending to be a dominant.

Rather than focus on the despicable dominant, let's focus on the newly formed threesome. Is it possible for Betsy to trust again? Does Betsy even want to stay in the kinky lifestyle because her walk on the wild side ended up in nasty non-con slavery? The exploration of Betsy's journey back to reclaiming her identity and sense of self-worth is fraught with trials and tribulations. With the strong support of two solid men, it may be possible.

The way Noland and Kenny treat Betsy is fabulous. They start out with kid gloves and then move on to more. Is it possible they are taking advantage of her situation? For some readers, it might. For me, it is just the right medicine for an ailing patient.

Another rather scary part to this story is when law is involved in the kinky lifestyle or when law is involved in rape cases. Unfortunately, many times, the victim is seen as guilty and painted as a harlot asking for it. Ms. Dalton does an admirable job of showing how sometimes, justice may not be in the hands of law. This little twist at the end is a bit surprising. For those who have read all the stories in this series up to now, it is expected and done just right. I really enjoy the ending as it satisfies my thirst for vengeance. Recommended for mmf ménage readers who want their cake and eat it too.

Spoiler Ahead Read at Your Own Risk This is book 25 in the "Suncoast Society" series and one of my favorites in this series. Betsy has nothing left to lose but her life when she manages to escape the vicious carousel of abuse she's suffered at the hands of her Dom Jack. When her Suncoast Society friends rush to her rescue thanks to Loren giving her number and Tilly's number to her Nolan and Kenny volunteer to take Betsy in and protect her, with their friends' blessings. Betsy was chained in the apartment she shared with her ex Jack when he beats her for the final time she knows that it's only a matter of time before he kills her. The women in this group are fierce with June, Gabe and Laura having guns Eliza is a black belt and another is good with a cross bow. This book also had some funny parts like the story June told Nolan and it had him pissing on himself it was funny. This book dealt with abuse that many people think of when you say BDSM. Betsy thought she got the Dom of her dreams and he turned out to be a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde he cut her off from her friends and family she gave up her job her apartment and even her car he also used mind games on her by making her think that he told her parents she was his slave and sent them pictures. Nolan and Kenny were very patient with her and let her go at her own pace with the play and sexy play as Betsy called it. I also liked how they helped her getting her ready to find a job and learning how to defend herself and it paid off. When Jack got out on bail and tried to attack her while out with June she fought back until June took over and shot him. I love reading this series this book was well written like the rest of the books in this series with no errors in grammar or spelling. Although this is a series each book can be read as a stand alone I am looking forward to reading more books in this series.

I know most of us read novels like this for the titillation of the BDSM scening but don’t expect that from this book. There are some scenes of light kink but due to the subject matter there’s a reason it’s light. I love Tymber Dalton’s writing. Even though she is self published her books are not rampant with typos and grammatical errors. The characters in her Suncoast Society books are like people I know. It’s a small community of friends that look out for each other and are there for each other during the good times and bad. I love how characters in earlier books make appearances just like friends in real life.

This book doesn’t come with an actual trigger warning but if you read the overview of the book you should realize it deals with abuse. The story is almost a manual for how to help a friend who has managed to leave an abusive relationship. Step by step we see how Betsy’s friends help her heal and move forward in life to become a mentally and physically healthy woman again.

After Betsy manages to escape from her abuser she ends up staying with Kenny and Nolan, two guys she knew from the club they all belonged to. The guys are trying to be protective yet keep a healthy distance from her emotionally for her own personal growth to continue. While being with them for the weeks and months before her abuser’s hearing in court they all manage to fall for each other anyhow. This is not conveyed very well in the story and some people felt that it was more like insta-love, however, it was not.

I LOVED the very shocking ending and epilogue. Who knew how bad-ass June really could be?

Everything in this book is a little too neat and perfect. Though Betsy made a mistake in judgement that cost her dearly -everyone reacted in the perfect way when Betsy called for help. They had all avenues covered to protect her and everyone said just the right thing to make her feel better. She instantly had lawyers and counselors, self-defense trainers, and perfect friends coming out of the wood work. No one said the wrong thing to upset her or make her feel angry. The men who stepped up to care for her wanted her instantly and never questioned how she would fit into their lives. And despite the abuse she endured Betsy was able to love and trust again without a problem or question. She knew what she needed to do and she did it. Easy peasy. Just like real life... um, not. Even her brief moment of breakdown had an instant, perfect resolution to make her feel secure. It was an HEA from the moment she made the call. I didn't feel much angst or struggle happening. Even the resolution the crisis was perfect. From the title thought she was actually going to carousel back to the jerk despite what had happened. THAT would have been an angst filled book as friends watched helpless as she repeated her mistake. How to get someone off that carousel when self-esteem is so low you feel you don't deserve better. But, as usual, I digress.

The best part about the whole book was the epilogue when we learn something unexpected. Something dark, human and totally imperfect. That revelation was the only thing that save this from being a two star book for me. Well, that and the line about there being a lot of kinky people living in Antarctica.

HEA all the way.

I found so many things wrong with this book I don't know where to begin.
What bothered me the most was the lack of scenes between Betsy and her men. 70% into the book they all tell each other how they are in love with each other, but we never even see them interact. She lives with them but they don't dare be too close to her so that she doesn't get attached on the rebound or whatever.... I couldn't understand how they fell for each other.
All we get is Betsy with Tilly, who manages her whole life. I mean I get that Betsy is traumatized and doesn't know how to trust herself to make the good decisions anymore, but she barely even eats before calling Tilly for advice, that is ridiculous
This one was a fail for me but I won't give up in Tymber Dalton, still love her writing and keep on enjoying her other stories.

Nobody deserves to be beaten…. Betsy went through hell with the man who called himself her Dom, the man she trusted, the man who betrayed her, the man who beat her. Abuse in the BDSM community is just as common as it is in the vanilla community. Predators are everywhere and is inexcusable. This is a good book. But it's not about the love that develops between Betsy, Kenny, and Nolan. This book is about Betsy and her journey from an abused victim, to a strong woman who was free and able to be loved.

Let me say brilliantly written. If you have issues with domestic abuse be prepared.
The trauma Betsy goes through is horrible and scary. Thank God for friends. They not just come to her rescue, they are there to help build her back up. Two of the friends become more. Kenny and Nolan love each other and are planning to marry when Betsy comes into their lives and now nothing will be the same.
A little twist and turn for another friend gives this book that something extra.

Gotta love it when a plan comes together. Love the way that this one turns out. I knew June was 5 gallons of badazzery in a 2 gallon bucket, but you go girl. Momma Bear at it's best. Lots of things were skipped over that left questions but I'm sure that's just me.

Thanks again, Tymber.

Just didn't enjoy it
.. No spark whatsoever and then they said the L word out of freaking nowhere. So much repetition. And I like a title reference but 4 times is a bit much

This is a good book. But it's not about the love that develops between Betsy, Kenny, and Nolan. This book is about Betsy and her journey from an abused victim, to a strong woman who was free and able to be loved.

I actually found that the men didn't come across as dominant toward Betsy. Falling in love seemed to happen out of the blue. All it would have taken was a couple sentences indicating them growing closer over the passage of time. Instead it went from the guys holding back, being platonic and Betsy being scared to declarations of love. It was a little too unbelievable.

Other than that, I quite enjoyed the story. I love the women of this world. They are strong, determined, and independent regardless of their chosen designations. The women, Tilly and June especially, are the reason for four stars. Otherwise I would have given it three stars.

DAMN.... the epilogue or one year later really sold me on this. I mean DAMN. June wow! But anyway, I liked this story. I'm a fan of the girl having to find herself again and this group of friends is the best. I want them in my life.

Kenny and Nolan have been thinking about a adding a third to their life. But while at a party they go out on a rescue mission for Betsy who has escaped her crazy and abusive boyfriend. Like has been pointed out more than once in this series abuse and bdsm are not at all the same thing. The men go about being supportive and the three develop feelings. I can understand how Betsy feels that it is important to be able to stand on her own two feet before making a final decision about their relationship. The problem of the ex gets solved in a big way.

As we knew from the previous book Betsy had a caravan of people come get her when she escaped an abusive situation. They continued to help her get her life together and heal in this book. She did the necessary work to patch herself and her life back together. It was good to see the people in her community rally around to help and watch her get her life back.

This book and Friends like These are linked. These two books are very intense. I also learned a lot about the little touched upon character, June, Skye’s (Mark) wife.
