Anna and Patsy have been friends since primary school, but as they get older their partners and other factors result in a simmering resentment and anger that drives them apart. However, Patsy's cancer diagnosis brings their friendship into sharp focus, and when they meet again after many years, dark secrets from the past threaten the very foundation of their relationship.
Anna and Patsy were best friends at primary school. A match made in heaven: an artist and an illustrator, both with a shared love of horses.
But as they grew up, secrets, lies and deception drove them apart.
Now Patsy has cancer, and their worlds collide once again.
This is a story about friendship through the years, the secrets that can shape our lives, and whether forgiveness can heal wounds that have been left to fester for decades.
Sheena has a wonderful way of making you care deeply about her characters. I think it’s because they’re flawed, raw and very, very real. They make stupid mistakes. They say the wrong things. They hurt each other. But they also feel deeply, and you absolutely cannot help but fall in love with them.
This book took me on a proper emotional journey. Initially, there was the mystery of what had driven these two best friends apart, and trying to uncover the truth kept me turning pages well into the night. But alongside that, I found myself becoming increasingly invested in their story and desperately wanting to know what would happen to them.
And by the end…. Ugly crying!!!!! The proper kind where your face has apparently forgotten how to function. 😭
An emotional rollercoaster of friendship, secrets, heartbreak and forgiveness. Beautifully written and packed with characters who feel incredibly real.
Oh, and if Sheena doesn’t do a spin-off book about the Sherlock Society I will be deeply disappointed 🕵️♀️
