This book had an interesting plot. I do think that the author had good intentions, and the story wasn't actually that bad, but there were simply lots of details that would often make me lose my full concentration on what I was reading, and all I was left in the end was a feeling of distaste...
First there's this recurrent problem that ebooks seem to have, and that is grammar and punctuation. Unfortunately, after I found about the wonders of kindle and freebies these major problems just got more and more frequent, so I guess I just have to "smile and wave"...
Second, there's this problem that the narrator seems to have with family terms, so to speak. I think a lot of the proximity between the characters is lost simply because, instead of the author addressing the characters according to their kinship (for example "the father of", "the wife of", etc etc), he has this habit of frequently referring to them by their names, which ends up sounding too formal and distant, in my opinion. Also related to the names, and this is probably me just being too picky, but it seems like every single name of the characters were extracted from a vintage names catalogue or something, but this is more of a bias problem, so just ignore this rant of mine.
In general, I think it really was a promising story, but it was badly explored, some things just happened too fast and the ending got me really confused about what really happened to the family...

trad.: Este livro tinha um enredo interessante. Eu acho mesmo que o autor tinha boas intenções, e que a história até não foi assim tão má, mas houve simplesmente muitos detalhes que me faziam perder frequentemente a concentração no que estava a ler, o que me causou algum desagrado…
Primeiro existe aquele problema recorrente que os ebooks parecem ter, a gramática e a pontuação. Infelizmente, depois de ter descoberto as maravilhas do kindle e das ofertas grátis estes problemas tornaram-se mais frequentes, o que me leva a pensar que simplesmente tenho de “sorrir e acenar”…
Segundo, temos aquele problema em que parece que existe algum assunto inacabado entre o narrador e os termos de família. Eu penso que muita da proximidade entre os personagens é perdida simplesmente porque, em vez do autor se dirigir aos personagens de acordo com o seu grau de parentesco (por exemplo “o pai de”, “a mulher de”, etc etc) ele tem este hábito frequente de se referir a eles pelos seus nomes, o que acaba por soar muito formal e distante, na minha opinião. Também relacionado com os nomes, e provavelmente sou eu apenas a ser muito mesquinho, mas parece que todos os nomes foram extraídos de algum catálogo vintage de nomes ou qualquer coisa do género, mas isto é provavelmente um problema de preferências, portanto apenas ignorem isto que acabei de dizer.
No geral, eu penso que a história era promissora, mas foi mal explorada, algumas coisas aconteceram muito rapidamente e o fim deixou-me muito confuso quanto ao que aconteceu realmente com a família…
