3 - "The past doesn't matter. Because I know what I see now." Stars.

More Than a Feeling is one of those books I didn’t love, but I didn’t hate it either. This is the first book I have read from the series so you can certainly read it as a standalone. There is no doubt Sara Richardson can write a great story, but I personally had a few niggles with her characterizations in this one.

The big one for me, and the main clincher for the whole story was Ruby James. This is a complex and complicated woman, rightly so in one sense as she certainly hasn’t had the best time of life up to reaching the Walker Mountain Ranch and settling in Aspen, Colorado.

The story started off so, so well in that I was laughing my socks off, when mistakenly taking Sawyer James as an intruder Ruby clocks him in the nuts with a rolling pin, the problem I then had though was her metaphorically and repetitively clocking him in the nuts for pretty much the rest of the book, it got old real quick when for a large portion of the story it went –

• Kiss
• I can’t do this
• Kiss
• I can’t tell you why
• Kiss
• We can’t get involved…

Now there are reasons for Ruby’s reluctance, but it just felt far to dragged out for me, especially if you take into account the resolution to those issues was pretty much resolved in the last two chapters of the book. Sawyer was working through his own set of problems as well, but I liked that fact he wasn’t afraid to give parts of himself to Ruby that very few others had seen in the hope of gaining her trust, the fact she still didn’t and the resulting omissions and distractions from the truth just made me that little bit more frustrated for them together.

"You don’t know anything about me…"
"That’s because you won’t let me."

On the positive side, this was an easy going read, it just got a little frustrating in its reading as things were dragged out in certain areas a little too long for my liking. But, you can feel the depth to this series with the wealth of other characters that are involved with Ruby and Sawyers story, I will definitely at some point look to make the time to read No Better Man; Avery & Bryce’s book, and Something Like Love; Ben and Paige’s book as both couples featured pretty heavily in this one and I would like to read of their beginnings as couples.

The conclusion to Sara’s Heart of the Rockies series is due in a couple of weeks with Rocky Mountain Wedding, and it looks like Sawyer and Ruby’s story may not quite have been told in full yet!

"I want to know you. I want to hear your stories - the hard ones, the good ones. But I won't force my way into your life. I won't make you tell me anything you're not ready to share."

More Than a Feeling is a marvelous continuation of the Heart of Rockies series by Sara Richardson.

Years ago I managed to get my hands on one of the first books in this series, and then I bought the sequels! Silly me lost them among my shelves until I recently managed to clean my little library up. Of course, I had to pick this book up and continue the series (I'm sure #2 is hiding somewhere in my house. Whoever said you had to read these in order?!).

I really enjoy this series, but it is an R rated book - sex scenes, abusive pasts and a miscarriage are just a few parts of this story that make it a "tougher" read. It felt like an adult romance novel, which is what it was intended to be. That being said, this book could be a potential trigger for some readers.

I like that Sara didn't hold back with Ruby's story. Her story is rough and tough and isn't all sunshine and roses. She's lucky to find a man like Sawyer and a beautiful, unconventional family to fill her heart with. Oh, and the sex scenes made for a good romp too!

This book has a lot of tug and pull. Ruby wanted Sawyer, but didn't want to tell him her secrets. Sawyer was very similar, but he was all in for this relationship. The 'should I, shouldn't I' was a little annoying, but that's because it's one of those specific cliches I get bored with. That part of the book didn't go on for a long time, but it's still there. This little cliche made this book a slow burn romance, but when it hits the hot parts... wowza, it is hot!

I like contemporary romances like these. For whatever reason, they are really hitting all of the notes I want them to hit this year. There were some cons though...

1. Potential animal abuse. I strongly dislike animal abuse. Fortunately, a lot of the potential abuse isn't shown in this novel. There's just a little bit and it's used to show Ruby's compassion. Still... it's a touchy topic for me.

2. Abusive exes. Yeek... These do happen in real life but they still make me shiver. Some readers might not enjoy some of the comments said in relation to this topic! So, reader beware...

3. Miscarriage. It happened in the past but I know it's a very touchy subject for some people. Again, reader beware!

4. Sawyer is a really horny man. It's not necessarily a giant con (it's a romance novel, you kinda have to expect it) but I know a good friend of mine did not enjoy that part of the novel. So, it's a potential con? Not for me, but for some readers.

If I had to pick the good things, they would be as followed:

1. Foster families and happy endings. I like seeing the positive side of building trust and making friendships! I'm glad this book put foster families in a good light.

2. Stand-alone versus series. This book could easily have stood alone, yet it's apart of a series. Sara gives you just enough info to be able to jump into this book without knowing the rest of this series.

3. NO CLIFFHANGER! Thank goodness there was no cliffhanger. Those kill me.

Overall, I liked this book! The touchy subjects dropped one star off my rating, but realistically they can happen! So why not put them into a romance novel and use them for a happy ending?

Four out of five stars!

I really wanted to like this book, but unfortunately I just couldn’t connect with the characters.

I liked Ruby, and the way she was with all the foster kids, but I got very annoyed with her at times. She would get angry at Sawyer, understandably so, and would want nothing to do with him, but then when she sees him again her anger just fades away because he’s so gorgeous and she’s so attracted to him. Ugh.

Sawyer wasn’t a bad character, but his suspicious nature grated on my nerves. I mean he suspected almost everyone from wrong doing, even Ruby, and this is apparently because he’s a cop and therefor it’s in his nature. Oh and his first though when she told him she used to be a waitress, was that she worked at Hooters. Why would that be his first thought? Still, he was very good with teaching the children, and that I liked.

I did really like the foster kids, especially little Brookie who was just too cute. And Nellie the dog.

This was my first book by this author, and I liked her writing. I’m sure most people who like small town romances will like this book, for me this was just a case of it’s me, not you.

MORE THAN A FEELING is book three in the Heart of the Rockies series by Sara Richardson but it’s the first book of this author that I’ve tried. I’m a sucker for these kind of small-town stories and I found myself enjoying this one a lot. Richardson is able to capture the sweet and sexy all into one perfect package and it’s safe to say that I will be trying more from this author.

The heroine of this story Ruby James is an interesting character. She has been using Walker Mountain Ranch as her safe haven. But her presence has triggered something in sexy cop Sawyer Hawkins because she’s been act quite flighty around him. After scaring her once, it seemed that the event had actually triggered something in Ruby and now she is terrified of him. But naturally, Sawyer wants to know what’s wrong and pushes her.

I’ve read a lot of Contemporary Romances but none that are quite as unique as this. I liked Ruby’s character a lot, but I also think that what made her so special and unique is also her greatest flaw. The secrets of her past continue to haunt her and because she is so closed off when around Sawyer, it does hinder the romance a little bit in the beginning. You have to be patient with her but I do think it’s worth it in the end. Expect this book to be a slow burn rather than a raging fire. Nevertheless, I still found it enjoyable and will definitely be looking forward to reading more from Sara Richardson.

Love couldn’t have a more beautiful backdrop….

Where is the Walker Mountain Ranch and how can I get there as quickly as possible? I’ve only been to Colorado once, too many years ago to count, but any memories I have seem to have crawled into the pages of this series. Solid, dependable people who are real—loving, compassionate and as flawed as anyone as they struggle with all that life can throw at them.

Sawyer Hawkins embodies all of those wonderful qualities even as he fights to overcome loss and guilt by planning to leave his family and home. Ruby James, on the other hand, has run to Walker Mountain to escape a past she can’t run far enough away from. Hurting but determined, they both are running. When they start looking at each other in a different light, love makes their decisions even harder…

As their stories unfolds, Ruby and Sawyer keep finding more and more to like about each other, even as their secrets are slowly strangling any hope of a relationship between them. Ruby is mired in fear even as she finds the first peace she’s had in a long time. Sawyer shakes her up and forces her to step outside of the boundaries she had set up for herself. Sawyer, on the other hand, has this calm façade that truly hides a whirlwind of pain. Ruby, with a gentle and loving hand, forces him to face his loss and guilt head on.

Watching them come together in love and healing made my heart happy over and over again. Sigh… sniffle… ~ Diane, 4.5 stars

More Than a Feeling is a classic love story.

Boy meets girl. Enter family shenanigans, lost dog, amazing scenery and more. This is the perfect book for a sweet romance lover who is smitten with love and needs a happily ever after to be content.

Ruby James and Sawyer Hawkins both have secrets in their pasts. His include heartache and running from the past. Hers are the same—but different. When they meet at Walker Mountain Ranch, the chemistry is off the charts. But Sawyer recognizes the hurt in Ruby’s eyes. He feels the need to comfort her and take care of her.

This was a simple and quick read. It ticked all the boxes of a classic, fun, HEA romance book for me. It’s more what my mother would read (yeah, I know) but it allowed me escape my everyday life for just a few. The words flowed fast from the pages. I enjoyed the story and may read more like it. ~ Heather, 3.5 stars

The first thing that drew me to this series was definitely the covers but the more that I got into the stories the more the characters just jumped out at me. This book was no different and I'm so glad to finally get Ruby's story!

If you read the previous books you remember that Ruby just showed up one day out of the blue and started working for the Walker mountain ranch. Now she has been the chef there for a year but things are coming up missing and Ruby is terrified that these wonderful people who she calls friends will find out the truth who she really is and what she was running from.

Sawyer is great at his job but now he needs a change to get over what his ex wife did to him. He doesn't know if he can trust again but something about Ruby makes him want to try. With only a month left until his transfer to Denver he is determined to find out who is stealing from his friends and the closer he gets to Ruby the more he wants to stay.

I just loved Sawyer and after the stuff with his ex I just wanted him to finally have a HEA and I'm so glad he found that with Ruby. These two were a lot alike. Both have trust issues and while one is running from their past the other is running to a new future. I really liked how Sawyer took it slow with Ruby and was really trying to get to know her. Although he suspected something happened to her he never pushed or gave up on starting something with her.

Ruby was a strong female lead in this story. She was smart and loyal but the one thing I loved about her was the way she tried to overcome her fears and her past. Little by little you could see her pushing past the walls she built and starting letting people in.

The storyline was good but sometimes I found myself wondering have I read this before? I would have liked a little more originality when it came to Ruby's ex being a cop. I was figuring he was more like a congressman or something the way she was saying he's above the law but it made sense with why she didn't want to get close to Sawyer.

Overall I really did enjoy this book and I hope it's not the end of this captivating series. The heart of the Rockies have captured me with the witty dialogue, wonderfully written characters and the charming scenery.

Ruby James came to Aspen, Colorado, to run away from an abusive fiancé. Nobody knows her secrets and she kept to herself so they wouldn't learn about it. But the small town and especially the people at Walker Mountain Ranch where she got a job as a baker make you want to be friend with them and welcomed her warmly so we can't say she's lonely anymore. And there's Sawyer Hawkins. A police officer she was wary of at first (because her ex is a cop) and she wonder why suddenly he show interest in her after one year of treating her like any other folk.

Sawyer Hawkins is moving out soon for Denver. He wants a fresh start, away from the memories of grief and catching his wife in bed with his best friend. His house sold sooner than expected so he's temporary staying at Walker Mountain Ranch, his cousin's place. There's something about Ruby's attitude that caught his attention and he knows she's hiding something because she's too evasive when he's asking questions about her past. But learning the what and the why is not the only reason why he want to spend time with her. He wants to know her and he instinctively knows he's got to take her time with her. And when Ruby and Sawyer accept to fill in with the activities that the Walker Mountain Ranch organize each year for disadvantaged kids, it's getting more difficult for Ruby to keep her distance. But it's not as if she was standing a chance against his charm anyway ;p

Another great romance by Sara Richardson and of the three books in the series, this one was my favorite. The hero patience and understanding was very sweet but what I find impressive is that he own his mistakes and doesn't just put the blame on his ex, even if she's "the bad guy." Ruby was soft-hearted but a good mix of strength and vulnerability. She wasn't too stubborn nor too wary to not let Sawyer a chance, even if she didn't expect to trust an other man again.

This is the first book I've read by Sara Richardson but it won't be the last. I really enjoy this story. It's well-written with complex characters, a charming backdrop and a heartwarming story. I really wished I started this series at the beginning. I felt like I was missing something from all the interaction of the prior characters from the first two books.

I will make sure to start her next series at the beginning.

I really enjoyed Sawyer and his interaction with his family. He's such a sweet guy who really puts himself out for others in need. You'll love how even though he doesn't really trust Ruby, he can't help but protect her. Make you feel all warm and fuzzy.

Now Ruby she's a different kettle of fish. You'll really like her but won't like how she's lying to Sawyer. Of course you know why, but still...

When you find out all of what Rudy was and still dealing with you like Sawyer want to kick some butt! You'll be proud of how she finally stands up for herself but you'll also like how Sawyer is right there for her.

My only issue with the story is that it felt a little dense, sometimes it was slow moving. As much as I wasn't happy about those parts I still really liked the story. I can handle a little wordiness as long as I have likable characters. Which you will find in More Than a Feeling. I'm really looking forward to the next book in the series and what's coming up after that.

Overall liked. I love Sawyer but Ruby I did have a few issues with. Mainly because of her treatment to Sawyer although they give us some hysterical moments her way with him for alot of the book don’t like.

Ruby is a complex character with a painful past that has her running. This past has her skittish and afraid of a good guy Sawyer and because of how she acts he begins to wonderfu about her and looks into her. She is kind and caring though.

We begin the story with a hysterical moment that involves Ruby, a rolling pin and Sawyer that will have you hoot and roll with laughter and there are moments like this throughout the book.

Sawyer though has his own issues and demons. He is a family man and helps those that are in need no matter what. He is also kind, loyal and sweet. Overall a great guy. Ge gave pieces of himself to Ruby hoping she will trust him and leaving himself vulnerable. She however will disappointingly and frustratingly continually will keep him out through keeping the whole truth from him and trying to distract him from the truth as well. Even with this Sawyer protects her although it makes him not completely trust her.

This is a quick and easy read that has fun moments and lets you escape into a world that has the guy being the one to open up and show how caring he is and the girl frustrate you with her fibs to the guy while he protects her and tries to help. they help each other heal and we see them let go of the pain of the past and come together. We see them falling in love with each other and this will warm your heart to see. A fun sweet romance that warms your heart.

As soon as I started reading this one, I could not put it down. The author hooks you from the start. Well, she hooked me anyway. It 's a really addictive novel with well-developed and very realistic characters with which is easy to be in tune. It 's a funny story but with some sad and tormented moments.
Ruby and Sawyer must constantly come to terms with their past. Ruby works at the Walker Mountain Ranch, here she finally has found a place she can call home and has found for the first time real friends. She also has a crush on Sawyer, the local policeman, but a man of law will be able to accept her secrets? Sawyer has had a very difficult time, the only way to forget his past is to leave Aspen and move to Denver. But he really likes Ruby. Is she the right woman to start to believe again in love?
Ruby is a strong woman, but very hurt and tormented by her past. She never had a family and had never known true love even if she is sure that it exists. Sawyer is a loyal man, respect the law for him is crucial. His failed marriage had left deep marks on his heart. He will hardly be able to love someone again. But Ruby is so sweet, so innocent that maybe can give her an opportunity.
It's the third book in the series but I did not need to read books one and two to have an understanding of the story. But I did enjoy this book and I look forward to reading the others in the series.
This romance is an easy read, the writing is smooth, and the pages fly by effortlessly. The author does a great job in vividly describing the ranch, town and surrounding landscape, she makes you feel like you are actually there.
I have no hesitation in recommending it highly.

Ruby James is an enigma to the people of Walker Mountain Ranch, but Ruby has an amazing heart and gives everything to help the foster children who come for a respite. And Ruby is content with hiding who she really is, in order to be free of her violent past. But when Police Officer Sawyer Hawkins moves in to the ranch and starts trying to be friend with Ruby, Ruby freaks out and wants to flee…

Sawyer Hawkins is finally getting on with his life after his wife having a miscarriage and then losing his wife to one of his so called friends. So Sawyer is leaving Aspen Colorado for the bright lights and mean streets of Denver and a well deserved fresh start. But when thefts start happening at the Walker Ranch, he steps in to help his family. But it's not just the thefts that catch his eye, but the mysterious Ruby! But not in a police business way, but in a heart pounding gotta have it kinda way and even though Sawyer is leaving, he doesn't want to let go…

So I am going to leave it there as I really don't want to spoil this book. Now I have not read any of the Heart of the Rockies series books, but honestly that doesn't matter! There was no confusion on the characters or the plot. The writing was smooth and enjoyable, despite the heartbreaking storyline and I felt that it was paced nicely, without any fluff or long and drawn out ridiculousness. The characters were likable and the storyline was sweet, with balancing the awful reality of domestic violence.

I really enjoyed reading More Than A Feeling and that is why I give it 4 stars!

Ruby is my kind of hero. She learns to overcome her fears. And she has a lot of them.

She has some secrets that she didn’t want to share. She lived in foster care when her mom got put in jail. She had a man who would beat her and she lived in fear until one day she got out.

When she runs she finds herself on the Walker Ranch. She works hard. She made some girl friends. But she finds an attraction to a man and doesn’t know what to do about it. She can’t let people get too close. She doesn’t want her past to catch up.

Sawyer is a cop. He is a good man who just went through a divorce with a cheating wife. He is trying to run away too. From seeing his ex wife and his own secrets. He is moving four hours away in a month. In the meantime, he is helping out his cousin’s ranch where Ruby is.

The more they see each other, the more they can’t resist their attraction. But Ruby goes hot and cold. She just can’t seem to know how to move on, she doesn’t believe she can. “He” is going to find her and kill her.

But slowly, Ruby starts to come alive. Sawyer’s not sure if he wants to move away anymore. But the two have a lot of talking to do if they are to ever become a couple.

The story is cute. I liked the families. I like how they all help each other out. I want to read the other’s stories too. The ending was different then most stories of overcoming abuse.

There was definitely some chuckles in this with the rolling pin incident and the ATV. It is a interesting story but it feels drab to me, I shuffled through each chapter. Which is sad as I normally like battered women finding her backbone stories. Loved how she finally got her backbone. I would definitely keep an eye out for this series but I can not see myself doing a click and buy, I can see myself borrowing via overdrive. Find it strange that the eBook costs more than the paperback.

Leave it to me to fall head over heels in love with a series and new to me author on book three in the series. More Than A Feeling (Heart Of The Rockies#3) is one of those contemporary romance books that reminded me why I love the genre so much. Every element of a great story is tucked in the pages of this book. There's a bit of mystery, some angst, a second chance at love, and the ability for two people to help to mend themselves and each other. Add a Colorado mountain town as the setting and the romance element is suddenly magical.

I noticed immediately that I love Sara's writing style. I relaxed right into the story and found myself reluctant to put it down. The story centers on Ruby James, a transplant by necessity. She has some good fortune when she ends up in Aspen Colorado at The Walker Mountain Ranch. Her backstory is that of a severe life; growing up in foster homes,a mother in prison, separated from her brother, and on the run from an abusive fiancee. She's hiding a lot and no one seems to bother about it. Until they d0.

The they is one Sawyer Walker. He's in a similar (yet completely opposite) situation. I know, makes no sense. But it will when you read the book. See Sawyer is also running. He's primed to make the escape from a town filled with both good memories (a near idyllic childhood & the presence of family), and the bad memories (an ex-wife that cheated on him). Sawyers suspicious nature (he is a Police officer after all), puts Ruby's life at Walker Ranch at risk, leaving Ruby feeling maligned. Hurt feelings set aside, Ruby begins spending time with Sawyer, with the natural attraction they feel for each other slowly building to something more. Sawyer really starts to shine as his ability to show his compassionate side comes through. It's actually a very prominent trait in him, but he often needs facts first.

She inhaled, trying to grasp the courage she always wanted but found so hard to hold on to. "I don't talk about my past because there's a lot I'd rather not remember." Hi slips folder, poking a shallow dimple into his right cheek. "Understood."

And finally, Sawyer absolutely melted me with how sentimental he is. He describes his heartbreak and realizes he still has plenty to live for

Every time he saw Kaylee he remembered what he'd lost. But Ruby's touch had reached out and pulled him from the past. And now he remembered he still had a future to gain.

There are so many charming aspects to the story. What brings Ruby and Sawyer together is the Walker family's work with foster children. I loved this little group of secondary characters. They are the catalyst for change between Ruby and Sawyer.

I started noting how many times I felt tears in my eyes and thought I might just be feeling extra sensitive. But it dawned on me this book TUGGED and every single heart string. Sure there's the angst I mentioned, but mostly it's just sweet moments with "good people" characters. The story is very well plotted and the flirting between Ruby and Sawyer is fun and will make you smile.

I happen to already have the first book in this series, No Better Man, on my bookshelf and I'm picturing myself reading it on one lovely Colorado summer day. I'm excited to go back and get to know the Walker family members that I met in More Than A Feeling. This is such a great feel good love story! 4.5 stars and recommendation!

This book revolves around Walker Mountain Ranch and those associated with it. Namely the owners of course: Bryce and Avery Walker with his mother the head chef Elsie. She seems to be the heart and soul of the place with the love that keeps it glued together.
Then there’s Bryce’s cousin Sawyer Hawkins but also he is his best friend. Right now they are in a transition period close but Sawyer is on the back end of a messy divorce. Because his wife cheated on him with a friend he can’t stand running into them and all the memories all around him in the small community of Aspen. So he is transferring to Denver’s police department to be a detective. Bryce says he’s running away from his problems and Sawyer says he’s right well maybe?
Bryce would know a few years back his wife was killed in an accident and instead of talking he drank. After a long while that didn’t work so he got help so he is now sober, in a happy new marriage, and have a new baby. He never in a million years he thought he would ever have that in his life or would allow another woman in. Since Sawyer’s house was sold so fast and he has a little over a month before he leaves to Denver he needed a place to stay so Bryce and Avery gave him one of the cottages to stay in.
In exchange for the no rent Sawyer wants to help out as much as he can around the Ranch. So he would do odd jobs and one on this day was putting shelves in the pantry. Since he had to work a shift that day he got up extra early, not really sleeping much lately anyway, and went to work on it while no one would be in there anyway. Since he practically grew up on the ranch he knew when his aunt always got to work so he knew he could finish before she got there. Not knowing that Ruby James the pastry chef would be getting there so early. So when things started to crash in there he didn’t think anything of it. But when he came out into the kitchen area and only the night lights were still on he had no clue what to think when a woman yelled, to stop dirt bag!
You see Rose’s past was one of pain and sorrow. She was in and out of foster homes. Until the age of 18. Then she struggled to make a living. She meets a man that should have been good to her but he wasn’t after he gets her to move in he then isolates her from everyone and everything she knows. He starts to berate her, beat her, so finally she ran. Never going back but always living in fear and looking over her shoulder. So with rolling pin in hand she tells him to stop but when she advances saying words she heard before she swings. Landing on his family jewels. Enough to stop most men but not Sawyer. He saw the fear and this fear was not normal. She had a glossed over look of one that was no longer in the room. A look of one that had been a victim before. He knew to tread lightly.
When he started to ask questions when things calmed down she clammed up. Wouldn’t make eye contact. He knew something was wrong. It was okay though he like to solve puzzles. Never liked seeing women scared, and he loved Rose’s curves and beauty so he would do it for her. She lit his torch.
Very good story. Wish I would have read this one first made more sense for me to help book 2 to this storyline, not that I was too lost in the next one. I give this 5 stars. Provided by netgalley.com. Follow us at: www.1rad-readerreviews.com.

Ruby James has never known true love or what it feels like to be loved by someone wholeheartedly, and to be honest she's not even sure she'd be able to recognize it if it was right in front of her. But that doesn't stop her from believing that it does exists...just maybe not for her! After spending most of her young life in the foster care system and being passed from family to family and never finding that special family connection she has always longed for, she thinks she's has finally found it in the form of a group of special people that took her in and helped her out when she needed it the most. Working at the Walker Mountain Ranch has been a blessing in disguise for Ruby, for once in her life she has friends, is surrounded by a family oriented environment, has a steady job that she really enjoys, and a feeling of safety that she so desperately needs. She has even caught the eye of a handsome local police officer who seems like he could really be someone that she could have a promising future with...the problem is Ruby has secrets, secrets that constantly haunt her, and could potentially ruin the peaceful little life she has created for herself.

Police officer Sawyer Hawkins is ready to leave Aspen behind and move to Denver for a fresh start, and hopefully find a way to leave the demons that have been constantly haunting him behind. After a heartbreaking loss, and a devastating divorce Sawyer's belief in love has pretty much dwindled away. He is certain that leaving Aspen will solve all of his problems, but his friends and family aren't ready to see him leave, and will do just about anything to keep him there. So, when they find out that he might just have a little crush on their newly hired pastry chef, they find creative little ways to push the two of them together. But Sawyer isn't so sure he's ready to go all in with someone again, and he senses that Ruby has a story to tell, one that's riddled with secrets...secrets she's not so willing to share.

I have been anxiously awaiting for the opportunity to return to this series and get better acquainted with Mr. Sawyer Hawkins...and all I can say is that he was WELL worth the wait!! Before I even realized what was happening he swooped in and completely walked away with my heart, he was everything I hoped he would be, an SO much more! He totally won me over with his ever present alpha attitude, gentle heart, smooth one liners, and patient caring nature. This beautifully executed story captured my attention instantly, I immediately felt myself being pulled into Ruby and Sawyer's world and completely entranced by every written word. These two well crafted characters were definitely a match made in literary heaven, the chemistry they shared could be felt from their first encounter, and continued to burn intently until the very end. This is by far one of the best reads that I have had the pleasure of reading this year, and I highly recommend you give it a try! Ruby and Sawyer's story is certain to find a way into your heart, and linger there long after the last page is turned!!

after what her ex put her through, Ruby James needed to find a place that made her feel safe, and it seems she's finally found that place in Aspen, Colorado. Working for the Walkers is the best thing to happen to her, but when police officer Sawyer Hawkins starts asking personal questions, she doesn't know what to do. Because if anyone found out she was on the run, it could put them in danger and she's not about to let anyone get hurt.

When he's asked to look into some thefts that have been happening at the Walker Mountain Ranch, for some reason -- at first -- Sawyer Hawkins thinks Ruby may be responsible. No one knows anything about her, and she has the access around the Ranch just as much or even more than the Ranch's other employees. However, the more Sawyer gets to know her, the more he begins to see how wrong he is, and when he learns about her past, he'll do anything to keep her safe.

Having absolutely loved the first two books of this series, I couldn't wait to read Sawyer and Ruby's story. Because they're two amazing characters that made this book from start to finish highly entertaining and fast-paced. All due to their back stories, the investigation into the thefts happening at the ranch and the nice blend of playful and intense dialogue.

I really liked the main as well as the secondary characters in this book. There were some really good light-hearted moments, as Sawyer strives to get past the walls Ruby has built to protect herself from any future hurt. The heroine is strong, brave, independent, stubborn and tenacious. She's determined for everyone not to know what happened to her with her ex, yet somehow, Sawyer's kindness and persistence begin to wear her down. Besides, she needs to open up to someone, and who better than a cop. Even if she has every reason to be weary of a man in uniform, someone that's supposed to uphold the law and not break it.

While Sawyer, he's loyal, trustworthy, intuitive and a good cop that will do anything to protect the innocent and punish the guilty. Truly, he's good for Ruby. She needs someone she can trust, if she's to ever overcome her past and realize that she can finally have a relationship again. To finally get justice for herself and anyone else her ex has hurt.

Both Ruby and Sawyer aren't looking for a relationship since they've either been hurt physically or emotionally in their previous ones. Yet, their feelings are so strong that there's no denying them. Until eventually, their intense chemistry -- which is there from the beginning -- spills over onto the pages in nicely-detailed sex scenes.

Overall, Ms. Richardson has written another incredible story and I can't wait to read more of this author's work in the future. The author wrapped this story up nicely with the way Ruby finally faces her past, and then how she honors someone that Sawyer loved. I would recommend More than a Feeling by Sara Richardson, if you enjoy a hero and heroine that need each other to heal from the hurts of their pasts.

So I wanted to really like this book, but I have to admit that it reminded me a lot of a couple other books I had read with similar storylines. I will say that I really do love small town romances, and I do like the storyline of someone on the run or who has changed their identity, it always adds an extra layer of interest for me.

So Ruby is the person on the run. One day she picked up her life and moved away, she just took the money she had in cash and started driving. When the story starts she's been working in the kitchen for a little bit but she is still pretty closed off. I think she honestly just doesn't want to get to attached or maybe she isn't sure how to after the life she had that she left behind. The thing about Ruby is that she really liked where she is at, and the people she is with, so she just wants to make sure she doesn't do anything to risk losing that life. She's a really sweet girl, but she kind of annoyed me with her back and forth. I mean she would kiss Sawyer and then turn around in the next instant and be convinced that it could never happen again.

As for Sawyer, he's a stand up guy, he really is. When the book starts, he is about to leave town, he had some bad memories in his past that he wants to get away from, and his solution is just leaving his life behind and starting over somewhere else. But before he goes he is helping out at Walker Ranch, where Ruby works, and he is having some serious suspicions. Sawyer is a nice guy, but he has some big hang ups, I mean he is just looking for the bad in everyone, and he pushes so much. There was more then one occasion where he would say something or do something that really hurt other people without thinking it through, or maybe he didn't care that he was hurting people, I don't know, he had this warped kind of sense of justice or need to know everything to make sure no one is being taken advantage of and therefore he is justified in his actions. Honestly, I wanted to punch him more than once.

This was a sweet little small town romance, with a side of hidden identity. I did think that Sawyer and Ruby had pretty good chemistry, and the story itself did move at a pretty decent pace. It was a quick read for me.

This is the third book in a series, but can be enjoyed as a standalone. I want to also note what may be a trigger warning: the plot centers on a domestic violence survivor who fled her abusive fiance just a year before. There are some recollections that are troublesome, but no graphic depictions.

When Ruby James arrived in Aspen a year ago she knew no one and was luckily able to find shelter with the loving family at the Walker Mountain Ranch. She’s been a baker in their resort kitchen, and lived in a rental property adjacent to Elsie Walker, family matriarch. She has made friends with Elsie and two other ladies and feels safe and at home for the first time in her life. Thing is, she’s not Ruby James, and she can’t reveal her true identity or her ex might find her and make good on his many threats.

Sawyer Hawkins has moved into the Walker Ranch for the final month of his contract with the Aspen PD. He’s fresh off a nasty divorce and looking to start fresh in Denver, but his house sold too quick and he’s got taken temporary lodgings at the urging of his cousin Bryce Walker. Besides, as a cop he might be able to track down who’s stealing from the Walkers. Sawyer thinks it could be Ruby, she’s there early enough and nobody knows much about her. Digging deeper, Sawyer’s dismayed to recognize the signs of an abuse victim in her interactions. He’s also frustrated to find her attractive. He’s supposed to be leaving in a few weeks, not getting his heart tangled up before then is on top of his to-do list.

I really liked how this one played out. At first, I thought it would be a SLEEPING WITH THE ENEMY scenario, with Ruby’s ex becoming a ruthless stalker, and was glad that was not the case. Truthfully, I’ve read a few books like that and I dislike the formulaic feel to them. This book is very different, and the twists were refreshing. Ruby has a whole new life in front of her, if only she’d open up a bit. She’s still a victim, in many respects, and I was so glad to watch her break through the walls she’d built around herself. I also loved how she worked with everyone in the book–foster kids, abused animals, even helping Sawyer face the depression he’d trapped himself within–Ruby sparkled brightest when she advocated for others–and that brought about an ending that was as much a redemption as a resolution.

This is a really sweet book, with a handful of steamy bits, but nothing too blush-worthy. The stage is set for another romance, I believe, with perhaps the widowed Elsie finding love again.

MORE THAN A FEELING is such a jubilant story of strength, courage and love that is sure to leave a smile on your face and warmth in your heart.

Ruby James and Sawyer Hawkins are two people running away from their pasts. For Ruby, Walker Mountain Ranch has become her refuge from a life filled with fear and pain but an attractive police officer has given her reason to hope that she can find happiness again.

For Sawyer, Aspen is the place where his dreams crashed and burned and every corner of the town is filled with painful memories. Leaving is the only way to get past his losses, but one gorgeous and secretive baker has him thinking about trying to live again. Two very bruised people thrown together by circumstances find something unexpected in each other but will they be brave enough to reach out and grab the second chance at happiness they've been given?

This story is so heartwarming and the characters are very sweet and endearing. Ruby is the star of the show and her courage and strength leap off the pages of the book. She didn't have the best of life growing up but it didn't kill her spirit. Her heart is big and her capacity for love is endless. Sawyer is a flawed but compassionate man struggling to rise above the hard knocks of life. After wallowing so long in the memories of all he had lost and giving up on relationships, Ruby makes him want to try again.

For their relationship to work both, Sawyer and Ruby will have to find the strength to share their secrets and face their demons. With very supportive family and friends and the breathtaking Rocky Mountains as a backdrop, Sawyer and Ruby's journey is one that will draw you in and have you rooting for their happiness. Ms. Richardson has done a great job with this series and each couple has a place in my heart.

I have been waiting for Ruby and Sawyers story since the first book in this amazing series. Like with all of the other books this one can be read as a stand alone. I have read them all and enjoy going back time and time again to revisit friends and family from the previous books. This book is about trusting and having faith, finding inner strength and standing up for what you believe in. It is the amazing story of Ruby and Sawyer.

Ruby James is hiding her past. A past where she was abused, a past where she fears for the safety of her friends, of what her ex-boyfriend will do to them if he ever finds her. She tries her best to hide, but Officer Sawyer Hawkins has a way of making her so nervous, of making her want to trust him, to unburden her secrets.

Sawyer Hawkins has been burned by love. His ex-wife lost their child, a secret that he has kept to himself, kept from his family. She also cheated on Sawyer, which makes him more cautious about life and love. But there is something about Ruby, he knows that she is hiding something, he wants her to open up to him, but more than that, he wants to get close to her, protect her.

Sawyer will push Ruby to open up, and when she does, he may be angry at first, but he is also so very supportive, insisting that they can work through anything together. When Ruby's past puts her in danger, Sawyer will move heaven and earth to save the woman that has come to mean the world to him.

I love the dynamic between Sawyer and Ruby. Yes Sawyer is a police officer, he is sworn to uphold the law, but that all goes out the window when it comes to Ruby. Yes he is suspicious of what Ruby is hiding, but instead of looking into her past, he is willing to let her tell him in her own time and in her own way. Ruby is such a brave character. Surviving what she has and still finding the strength to face her past in order to move forward left me in awe of her. The way that she wanted to protect the people on the ranch that had come to mean so much to her, to protect the foster kids who she felt a connection with was amazing.

I truly loved this story and although I have loved every book in this series, I think that Ruby and Sawyer are my favorite couple to date. This story is for anyone that believes that true love and a HEA is worth walking through fire.

More Than a Feeling is a third in the series, but the first that I have read. The cover was gorgeous and immediately pulled me in. Not even having read the other two in the series prior, I was able to follow this plot wonderfully.

Ruby James, the main character, is running from an abusive relationship and has done everything that she possibly can (taking over someone else's identity for example) to rid herself of her past. Moving across the United States, she finds harbor in the Rockies, working at the Walker Mountain Ranch as a chef.

Sawyer Hawkins is a police officer that is divorced and friends with the owner of the lodge and currently staying there before he moves. Through this stay, he runs into Ruby a lot. He is beyond intrigued, and wants to know more. Being a cop, however, has all his senses on high alert when he is around Ruby, from the way she acts towards him. He knows something is up, and wants to get to know her better, but knows digging will cause things he may not want to find unburied.

The relationship between these two, for me, was an ok one to begin with. So much of the foundation was built on lies (because Ruby was scared and in hiding), that it makes me wonder, in the back of my head, if it is continued after the truth comes out, how will the relationship stand?
Would Sawyer ever be able to truly trust her? Then, with the robberies that were going on, Sawyer, in the beginning, kind of suspected Ruby. He's super attracted to her from the beginning of the book, that was made known, and then suspects her as a thief...but is still attracted to her?

Their chemistry, both sexually and emotionally (once Ruby lets of her fears and Sawyer realizes how truly wrong he was) were spot on, which was nice. I do like how Ruby seemed to mature as the book went on, finding herself and how to deal with her past demons.

I've been a fan of the Heart of the Rockies series ever since I first read No Better Man last year, my enjoyment increasing with each new book added. I've been wanting to read Sawyer and Ruby's love story for some time, and theirs is a second chance romance of sorts, both having been burned by love the first time around, albeit with other people. I really liked Sawyer and my heart broke for him when the details about his time with his ex came out in the story, but I think he was perfectly matched with someone like Ruby, who has endured and survived and come out of her ordeal much stronger and independent. From the moment their paths converged, it was clear that these two were meant to be and just like the love stories of the main characters that came before them, theirs is neither easy nor simple, but it is beautiful.

Slow burn romances are faced with the challenge of keeping readers hooked all throughout the story, and I've read my fair share where I found my mind wandering or having that voice in my head thinking how much longer is it going to take before the characters do something more noteworthy. In the case of this third in a series, the slow burn doesn't simmer; it gradually escalates until you realize that you've made it to the end of yet another well-written addition to an already fantastic series. Sara Richardson's writing has never failed to draw me in and hold my attention, and she's successfully done that for the fourth time in a row with Ruby and Sawyer's story. With the end of the series just one book away, my expectations are at a high, and I've got four books that came before it to thank for that. More Than a Feeling garners five stars. ♥

More Than A Feeling is an emotional read, particularly at the beginning, with my heart absolutely breaking for Ruby and what she’s had to go through in her life. It’s no wonder she’s lost her belief in magic (and love), with what she’s experienced. But even as afraid and hurt as she is by her past, she still has the ability to hope, she still has the ability to pick herself up and try to build herself a better life. I admire her strength in that, because it isn’t an easy thing to do and yet she does it. Because she’s a survivor, even if she doesn’t always think of or present herself that way.

I really loved this book. It’s well-written and heartfelt, and it was so easy to connect with and root for Ruby and Sawyer. The deep characterization and vivid setting details not only pulled me into the story, but it also made me feel for the characters and their situations, both past and present. This was a story that draws readers in and doesn’t let them go.

Ruby is a strong female character, with a lot of pain and hope inside of her, and Sawyer is an amazingly good man for her because of that. Loyal, kind, and endearing, patient, understanding, and observant, Sawyer is the kind of man who can read her and then act accordingly. He was exactly the guy Ruby needed at the exact moment she needed him, and vice versa.

Sawyer and Ruby have both been hurt and disappointed by their pasts, and yet they build something truly remarkable with each other in this book. Something real, natural, and passionate, something emotionally gripping and honest, too.

I truly enjoyed every word of this book. It had everything I love to read in a romance: deep emotion, a bit of danger and suspense, a good mix of fun, and powerful lessons about life and love and hope, and a strong showing of renewal of self. It made my psychology loving heart jump for joy. Excellent, excellent romance read.

More than a Feeling, is my first introduction to author, Sara Richardson and I am thrilled by what I discovered among the pages of this book! In fact this title alone is the only book that I have read so far this year that I couldn't put down for more than a minute as I loved every minute of the story itself-Beautifully detailed, alluring and heartwarming this is one of the best-written contemporary romances that I have had the pleasure of reading in a long time.

Sadly I have missed out in the author's previous novels in the Heart of the Rockies series, but this story more than made up for my own mistake. I am happy to say that with the aid of the author I was not lost when I read this novel. It is very hard to uncover any flaws within this story because I was so entertained by everything from the plot, to the romance and lastly even the characters were outstanding! The only flaw that I did find was that the plot did outshine the romance in some scenes when I would have preferred more of the romance.

Both Ruby and Sawyer were a unique couple. I think it is safe to state that Sawyer being a cop was suspicious of Ruby in the beginning. Ruby had secrets buried deep in her past that she wasn't willingly to reveal to anyone including herself. I very much enjoyed Ruby's character as a heroine as she added brief moments of suspense to the book, but in reality all Ruby wanted to do was start over in her life. As for Sawyer he wanted to uncover the truth of what was happening at the Walker Ranch and literally leave the town of Aspen behind him. Together, Sawyer and Ruby worked together not only at their romance, but a true chance to have their own HEA-ending.

I would suggest reading this book. For myself I am eager to get started in my own reading of the previous books in this series.

The emotional turmoil at the beginning of the story pulled me in, and the story continued to enchant me, until the very end.
It was so easy to feel connected to the characters, to their struggles, burdens from the past, and triumphs of the present. All the characters, including the supportive cast, were well described, with deep characteristics, and attributes that were easy to admire. They were the kind of people you want to spend time with, the ranch sounding like a place for fun, enjoyable times.
Sawyer and Ruby have amazing connections. The attraction is powerful, easy for even children to notice it. They are both in a crossroads in their lives, going in opposite directions, but there's just something that keeps pulling them together.
I wept with Ruby, with the wounds and scars of her past. But she turned out to be a strong, powerful, loving woman.
Sawyer is lovable, loyal, and law abiding. Honesty, truth, and rules are important for him, but he learns to be flexible. I loved the growth in both of them through the story. How they find their inner strength to face the demons of the past, and how they stand by each other, at the moment of need, when the cornerstone of their lives are being shifted. The character development was done in a superb, natural way through the tale.
But the story is not all angst, agony and pain, there are many fun, sweet, adorable moments, often in the kitchen, or with the kids visiting the ranch. And the passionate moments between Ruby and Sawyer, when the heat takes over, and they can't keep their hands, or mouths, off each other.
When you have a story with elements of deep personal growth, fun, and joy, mixed with life lessons, danger, and even some suspense, romance that is sure to swoon you, and passion that takes your breath away, you have a winner in your hands!

More Than A Feeling is the third book in the Heart of the Rockies series, but is easily read as a standalone romance. It was the first book I've read by Sara Richardson and I was impressed with her writing style. I would put it in the same category as some of my favorite contemporary romance authors (Shalvis, Higgins, Kantra -- to name a few).

This story was filled with interesting and engaging characters. Ruby was a woman struggling to leave her past behind. She was running from an abusive relationship and feared she would never be able to live her life the way she dreamed.

Sawyer was a man who protected those he loved. His job as a cop overflowed into his life and he was always trying to solve the problems around him. He was a genuinely nice guy who deserved to find love and family.

Ruby and Sawyer's relationship was a slow burn romance. With Ruby's fears of being discovered, she was reluctant to begin a relationship with Sawyer. Sawyer was always full speed ahead when it came to Ruby. It took a while for them to get on the same path, but it was so sweet watching them figure things out. I loved how their problems were resolved in the end.

There were also a ton of great supporting characters in this story. The foster kids visiting the ranch for a week were cute and well thought out. I also loved getting a glimpse of the characters from the other books in the series. It would to go back and read their stories.

More Than A Feeling was a sweet, timeless contemporary romance. It had everything I would expect in an adult contemporary romance. Readers who want a slow and steady relationship build up are sure to love this book.

I truly enjoyed this story about a young lady who had run away from her boyfriend right before they were to be married. He had been abusive and he threatened to kill her if she tried to leave him. After taking the name of her deceased neighbor, Ruby James found a home in Aspen, Colorado at the Walker Mountain Ranch. They took her in, knowing she was running from something, and never asked any questions, just made her part of the family. Police Office Sawyer Hawkins had been interested in her since she arrived but he finally got a chance to know her when they opened the ranch to kids from foster homes and they both were working with the kids. Sawyer could not figure out exactly what Rudy was hiding but like all alpha males, he wanted to help her. This is a very good story about trust, independence, being strong and standing up for yourself.
