"I'll see this to the end" is what I said when this book was first announced. I've read all the books in the series but honesty, the books became more and more crazy and departed further from an awesome idea and turned into garbage.

This book was clearly a set up for the "new series". But too many errors done in editing made it seem like this was edited too many errors done in editing made it seem like this was edited by a 4th grader. (Yes I realize what I did, but that's exactly what happened in the book. Twice.)

I told myself I'd stick through to see the endgame, but after this book, my want to keep reading is very, very low.

First of all just so it's clear, this book takes place before The Syndrome. The events here lead very nicely into The Syndrome which gives you a little insight into what happens after the end of The Return.

I loved this book, absolutely loved it! I loved being with The Keepers again and figuring out the message Wayne left them at the end of The Insider. There were new characters who I absolutely adored, and new Overtakers and a mysterious group of Disney haters called The Legacy. This book had me hooked and the ending left me hanging. I honestly cannot wait for Book two!

There is only one thing in this book that annoyed me, and that is how Disney, and DSI dealt with Amanda, Jess, and The Keepers. I don't get why they were treating them so horribly and like they were trying to hurt the company after all they have done for them. Also, I didn't like the fact that some of The Keepers, especially Charlene, didn't believe Finn, or didn't want to be a part of it anymore. However, by the end this is resolved, and The Keepers bonds are stronger than ever, and they're ready to take on their next challenge together.

All I can say to end this is that book two cannot come fast enough!!!!!!!!!!!

This book was pretty amazing! There were parts were I was confused as to what was going on but my questions were answered with in the next few paragraphs or chapters! Ridley is so creative!! I would've never thought of an idea like this! It's incredible! I totally forgot how much I missed the Keepers! His writing isn't as fresh but the plot was very good and kept me interested. I can't wait for the next one!

There is a time when you have to say, "Enough is enough."

When I heard in 2014 that Ridley Pearson was planning yet another Kingdom Keepers series, I was less than thrilled, particularly because I thought I was finally getting my closure with The Insider. There's also the fact that the writing had gotten increasingly convoluted and presented way more questions than answers. Still, I can't drop a series once I start it and as a hardcore Disney geek, there are always a couple of redeeming qualities to the books (because it's about Disneyland!), so I finally picked up The Return.

My love for this series has faded so much over the years, but this book just hammered it home. The writing has gotten so bad at this point. The dialogue is cringe-worthy, there are typos galore, and the entire concept has become ridiculous. It makes you wonder who exactly edits these books; between this and The Beast Within by Serena Valentino, it makes me wonder how some of these books can be published by Disney, considering their incredibly high standards.

Pearson's writing reads like that of an amateur. The completely unnecessary inserts from his fans are no better or worse than the rest of the book. A large problem with this comes from the fact that the Kingdom Keepers are now eighteen rather than thirteen (and yet the book claims they've been DHIs for seven years...and even I know that's not correct), but they don't act it. Pearson's thirteen-year-old Keepers felt inauthentic with their supposedly teenage slang and bizarre relationships, but it's gotten worse as he attempts to mature his characters. They don't read like adults when, at this point, after all they've been through, they should be. And none of them feel like real people. There is the potential for some real emotion and complexity in these protagonists, considering the traumas and the losses they've been through on their quest to defeat the Overtakers, but it's just not there. They are completely flat and stereotypical, and some characters, like Charlene and Jess, seem absolutely nothing like the characters they were in the previous books.

I knew there would be time travel, and you can bet that after the sloppiness that defined the later books in the Kingdom Keepers series, I was incredibly wary. The time travel idea has so many plot holes, and yet it also feels incredibly simplistic (not just for the reason they feel that they have to go back in time, but also in the treatment of the parks, the employees, etc.). And then there's that whole "memory" issue that keeps getting conveniently resolved and/or brought back up.

I remember reading somewhere that the original Kingdom Keepers series was supposed to be 5 books, but Disney told Pearson to make it 7, which explains a lot of the padding in the last few installments. I can't help but wonder if the same thing occurred here. I feel like this Return series could very easily have been one book, but Disney/Pearson is stretching it out for more tension...and, of course, more money. Honestly, this book only serves to set up the main conflict and create excitement for the next installment...and it doesn't do well in either department.

The only things that made this book mildly enjoyable for me were the Disney inserts. Small scenes like Mr. Toad's Wild Ride coming to life just made me happy because they reminded me, however briefly, of the excitement I had when I read Disney After Dark and could geek out over my favorite rides and the magic the Keepers encounter there. But these moments are few and far between and they've been traded in for the time travel silliness. And as much as I liked Pearson's idea of a Disney School of Imagineering, I thought it was poorly executed and made all of the Imagineers/members of the company who weren't Keepers look like jerks or fools.

It's pretty disheartening to read a book by an experienced author (who actually had access to the Disney parks and company to research this and write it to the best of his ability!) that was edited and published by Disney and think not just, "I could have written that" or "I could have edited that", but "I could have done better." I love Disneyland and I love Disney and I love the idea of the Kingdom Keepers, but between the abysmal editing, juvenile writing, poor characterization, and lack of magic or thrills... Really. "Enough is enough."

I'll probably have to see how this series ends (will it ever?) if not just out of pure obligation, but there's no doubt that by this point, it's become more of a chore than anything else.

2 stars.

Finn, Maybeck, Willa, Philby, Charlene, Amanda, and Jess are back in a brand new Kingdom Keepers adventure in Ridley Pearson's new series The Return. When Finn receives a mysterious message from their friend and mentor Disney imagineer Wayne Kresky, he decides to find out what it is. Can he and the others solve the message and find Walt's Pen to return it to One Man's Dream before the Overtakers return to stop them? Read on and find out for yourself.

This was a pretty good read. I enjoyed the Kingdom Keepers series and hope that this series will bring the magic, adventure, and more that the other series has done. If you are a fan of the Disney parks, definitely check the original Kingdom Keepers series and this one out. It is available at your local library and wherever books are sold.

I was a little apprehensive about starting this series after I finished The Insider. I really enjoyed most of the first series, but I had some issues with the last book, and I also read some unfavorable reviews for this book, but I am really glad I decided to go ahead and read it anyway because I enjoyed it, much more than I thought I would.

The book wasn't without faults. There were too many typos that I picked up without even trying and the plot was a bit contrived. However, as a fantasy book in which all of the Disney characters are actually real, it is a lot easier to just accept that the story could be real within the confines of the world Pearson created.

Overall, I recommend this book if you are a fan of the other Kingdom Keepers novels or a fan of Disney. Despite some of the issues, it's an enjoyable read, and it's a fast read. But if you aren't a diehard Disney fan or you didn't enjoy the first series, then this sequel series probably isn't for you.

I can't believe it! I picked up this book to start reading it and I didn't put it down until I finished it! I cannot remember doing that in a LONG time.

Mr. Pearson has once again wrote a book full of twists and turns. The book flowed nicely in my opinion. The plot is good, however, I'm still struggling when I finished the book with where he is going with the adventure. It's a good "wonder" as it will me craving for the next edition. (I sometimes think Mr. Pearson's name is Riddle Pearson instead of Ridley Pearson with the way he has written the series.)

I would recommend the book. I like to read it (like I have the others) and imagine how it would feel if I could roam the parks as the Keepers do.

I hate to say it but Ridley has totally lost his way with this series. I was so excited when I first read 'Disney After Dark'. I remember sitting there absorbed in the story, feeling creeped out by the overtakers. Now I got nothing!

In this book Finn thinks that the OTs are back in business but none of the other Keepers believe him, apparently even that's just to crazy for them. Until he ends up time travelling back to before Disneyland was open. Then suddenly they are all on board, well except Charlene who seems to have had her head turned by fame.

We see a few overtakers in this book. The cards from Alice in Wonderland, Panic and Pain from Hercules and then bizarrely Jack and Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas. The latter really bugged me because Jack and Sally have never been bad guys. Even though Jack is the pumpkin king he has always been good at heart. And does that mean they would work with Oogie Boogie now?

Jess and Amanda have enrolled in the Disney School of Imagineering. Their storyline was the more interesting of the two but I still ended up feeling really annoyed because it makes the people who work for the Disney company seem like the bad guys to. They seem to be against the Keepers and I just don't understand why. They know they saved the parks, they know something is going on. Why don't they just join up and help each other? Is Dapper Dan a bad guy now aswell? Oh and surprise surprise, none of the good characters showed up!

This whole book felt like a set up. Nothing amazing happened and the story was only mildly interesting. I'm to invested in the series to quit now but I really hope Ridley finds some of the magic he put in his first couple of books and captures it for his new ones.

The best thing about my copy is that it was a gift from a friend and it was signed for me :)

Our Kingdom Keepers are young adults and, on their way, to pursuing further education and careers when Finn notices discrepancies in photographs regarding Walt Disney's pen. Led to the Carousel, he finds himself in Disney Land in 1955, face to face with a young Wayne. As always there are lots of Disney facts and descriptions of the parks as the chapters go between Disneyland and Disney World. There is another menace afoot and it is difficult to tell the good guys from the bad - especially when the five get locked in 1955 by the end of this first book in a new series.

What a great way to begin the end, Disney Lands being the first in the final trilogy that finishing off the Kingdom Keepers series. After
seven, action-packed books, one may be wondering what more could be in store for Finn and the gang. But trust me when I say that
reading Disney Lands is not like reading the previous books over again; it brings something much different to the table. Author
Ridley Pearson escorts readers into places (and times) his previous books have yet to venture into. If you have come to love the characters
like I have, you will certainly relish as relationships blossom further, and cringe as others are strained. Heart strings are guaranteed to be
pulled as you accept the unexpected twists and turns this novel has to offer. One thing I do recommend is to be sure to read the entire
Kingdom Keepers series before delving into Disney Lands. Though it a great book for readers who have already come to love the books,
it may cause serious confusion for those who haven't. It may also be helpful to take a look at the Kingdom Keepers novel The Syndrome,
which will give you some extra information about Disney Lands specific storyline. All-in-all, Disney Lands was a great read, though a quick
one because I just couldn't put it down!

"In the blink of an eye, it was gone, leaving only an oily texture to the air, like heat shimmering off the sidewalk. That. too, melted away, returning clarity of sight. It all happened so fast that Willa wasn't sure she'd seen anything at all. Not until the carousel came back around and the golden horse stood empty, its rider gone." - Ridley Pearson.

This book is for sure one of my favorites! It's hard to explain to readers that haven't read the series, or are in the middle of the Kingdom Keepers series. But this is the first book of the new series, and the Keepers return (see what I did there), and so does someone else...Amanda, and Jess get accepted into DSI (Disney School of Imagineering), and it looks an awful like the Tower of Terror...In this book the keepers must go on a mission that involves hard work, great minds, and some time traveling...I recommend this book to anyone who has read the Kingdom Keepers series, or is reading the bridge to the new series. If you are interested in mystery, fantasy, and adventure, I think that this book would be great for you!

I absolutely love the kingdom keepers series. The original series is what really got me into reading and to find that there is the second series really just made my heart soar. I read this book in a day I just completely devoured it. I love where all of the characters are in the development of all of the characters throughout the book and I really can't wait till March for the next book to come out. Every time I go to the Disneyland park in California I can't help but think about the kingdom keepers and how it connects and I go quite often and it really just makes the magic of Disney so..... Much more amazing if that can even happen. Five out of five stars highly recommended and please pick this book up.

I did not realize there was a series in conjunction with this book that gave greater background into this series before I began reading it. With that being said, I was thoroughly confused and had a very difficult time following this book until about halfway through. I don't think there was enough descriptive writing to differentiate each character and their qualities early on, which made it very difficult to understand and follow as I continued reading. About 150 pages in, I was able to follow the storyline better, but I still think that the author could have done a better job of backtracking to help explain the overall plot for readers who may not have read the books in the series before this.

OMG- I had read a few of the Kingdom Keepers, and just picked this one up. There was no plot, that I could follow and the editing was horrible. In one part of the book the kids are watching an Aniheim Duck hockey game in Orlando FL- not sure why since the Ducks play in CA, and the next page they are back in Aniheim with no mention of the traveling-if there was any- pretty sure the author forgot where his characaters were at. ugh also- the characters are out of high school now- and trying to use swear words so lots of "instead of words" lame lame lame!

This book got an extra star for including two of my favorite characters Pain and Panic!

I'm not a huge fan of time travel; I generally find the premises to be confusing and hard to follow
This book was no exception but I did enjoy it and it was nice to see the gang back together again.

I hope that the next book gets them into present time again.

I really liked this book. It's a pity I've not read any of the others though. It's incredibly difficult to get these in the UK, and you can't get them on Kindle at all.

The book was fun and easy to read, I wasn't sure of the back story but I don't feel that this ruined my reading experience. The characters were loveable and charming and it was a great read.

I can't believe I'm still reading these books. It's literally the equivalent of watching a train wreck. It's awful, even painful to look at, but I have to find out what happens. So I can't look away. These books are just awful but I can't keep myself from wondering if the author is ever going to go anywhere with the story.

My kids asked me a question about the villains in the story and how they show up. My honest answer was that I don't know. The author never explains anything, he just keeps throwing nonsensical "action" and the most ridiculous conversations onto the page in order to "tell the story".

I thought that the book is very much a sequel to the regular Kingdom Keepers series. It's really cool because the characters travel between Disneyland and Disney World and see different things were they are there. It's also special in it's own way because their original leader gets to talk to them again.
Also, the characters get to experience the parks in their own different way. The characters also do get a behind the scenes look into the opening of Disneyland and the first week of operation. Finally, the characters do get the ability to use returns to make things go back to normal.

I started this series after not loving the last few books in the last series but figured I should give it a try. The first 1/3 of the book had some of the annoying aspects from the last series but I'm giving it 3 stars as I think it redeemed itself on the last 2/3 of the book. My only hope is that the author doesn't try to extend this series too long like the last one and thereby make me despise it as it progresses.

Well, it’s about time I’ve read one of these books and LOVED it. Great storytelling, a great story, and a temporary relief from big battles. I enjoyed that this book has an air or mystery to it while still being set in Disney. Great start to the sequel series!

I was originally going to read the whole series but after reading this I don't think I will. The plot, world building, and overall creativeness of the book is really good, and I may be over analyzing this, but the characters have many stereotypes that i'm not sure I could sit through another book.

Here's some examples:
"...Charlene, had sandy blond hair and blue eyes, with pale skin. The other girl, Willa, struck him as the geeky, but extremely smart. She was sweet, but not knockout gorgeous like Charlene... Willa struck him as moody with her hooded brown eyes and dark, braided hair, she might have been Asian or Native American." (18)

I could not find the exact quote but Dillard, who is Finns best friend, is a fat kid who is always left out and treated like dirt by almost all the characters include Finn. He is also seen eating 80% of the time well the other skinny characters are only seen eating once or twice (if I remember correctly).

There are more but it would take to long to write them so I added the two that stuck out most to me.

This is an interesting continuation of the Kingdom Keepers stories. I didn't like this book as much as the original stories, partly because I feel that Ridley Pearson has gone too far out there.

I mean, time travel? That is even crazier than the idea that the Disney characters are actually real and alive in the parks. For this reason, I give the book 3 stars. I will read the next book when it comes to my local library though. The story does capture you.

I also don't understand why a whole new series had to be created. This book isn't any different from the other Kingdom Keeper books, in that it doesn't add or subtract characters and the concept is similar.

However, I really adore the idea of a Disney School of Imagineering. Somebody please tell me that this is real!
