It took me a while to connect with the characters. But I eventually got really into it. Escaping Forever is a story about forbidden love.
Hallie's soul is one that has been reincarnated throughout time, but each time she is born she is a little different. Hallie is strong, wise, and independent. Growing up, she didn't have her family to help her in life. She was abandoned by her father, and found by a wandering woman and her daughter.
Matthew is an immortal guardian, but he is also an outcast because he will not follow their orders. He needs to stay away from Hallie so that she could survive, but how do you stay away from your soulmate?
There were a lot of times when it was a bit immature. Matthew, being over 100 years old, acts like a teenager sometimes. But overall I enjoyed the story. There were some steamy moments that I liked too. Will I be interested in reading more about Matthew and Hallie? Yes.
Summary: She’s the reincarnation of his old flame. And the only one who can kill him.

Then we have Hallie, who is always alone. After years of struggle and abandonment, her world tilts on its axis again when a freak ice storm sends her van hurtling into a tree — and Hallie into the arms of a tall stranger whose embrace feels hauntingly familiar…
With a vengeful Guardian on their tail, she can’t fall for him. But faced with Matthew’s captivating presence, a baffling historical mystery, and one whirlwind road trip, Hallie will have to come to terms with her past, Matthew’s secret, and the fact that some lives are like true love… eternal.
I read this book in Masters of the hunt, what can i say other than brilliant! I really enjoyed reading this book from start to finish, so much so I couldn't put it down! Definite must read for anyone, no matter what genre you like. I only hope there is more of Matthew and Hallie's story to come!!!

Matthew is an immortal guardian who fell in love with the wrong girl over 150 years ago. He had one task and that was to protect this girl, but with one stipulation no matter what stay away from her. Matthew fails and as punishment he is cursed with an eternity filled with pain and loneliness. The only way to escape is through death by the soul of the one person he loved the most.
So when I saw this on NetGalley two years ago I was like heck yeah that sounds great and I started it right away. Unfortunately it took me a little bit to get into the characters. I struggled for a while to read it here and there and finally I just gave up on it. But my goal in 2017 is to finish all these books I've started and not finished for whatever reason that was. So again in January I picked this one back up. And I would love to say I got was able to get into the story and characters right away, but that was not the case.
Again it took me a while to connect with the characters. It was so frustrating watching Matthew acting so hot and cold with Hallie. Especially when he knew everything and she couldn’t remember any of it. He would be super friendly one minute and then completely rude and ignoring her the next. I just couldn’t understand why he was acting that way.
There were a lot of parts that were left kind of left unresolved, which may get cleared up and addressed in the other books. However, in this one it left me feeling more confused at times than anything else.
Overall this was a decent paranormal romance and I can see the series getting better as it goes.
I really liked reading this book. Though the characters did have issues, but they weren't meant to be perfect. In Escaping Forever we learn of Hallie. Hallie is a young woman who has been brought up in a tough environment. Her father abandoned her, and then years later the mother that had raised her from then on abandoned her too. I know that I would have a tough time with that much loss. But, Hallie seems to be pretty strong and determined and passionate. When another tragedy strikes, we meet Matthew. Matthew has one quirk, he doesn't die. Also, Hallie and Matthew are drawn to each other through past lives. I found that concept to be really romantic. As the story goes on, Hallie learns more of Matthew and surprisingly isn't scared off. But, things don't stay easy for them for long. As Matthew's past comes to bite him in the butt, it tears them apart. However, the story does have a happy ending/cliffhanger. I didn't like that Hallie and Matthew kind of had an instant relationship, because it moved really quickly. I also didn't like that it didn't delve into too many details on certain parts that, in my opinion, required more explanation. I did really enjoy it, though. I also look forward to reading the next book. I would recommend this book to those who like forbidden romance, paranormal elements, and a little action.
Escaping Forever,The Immortal Chronicles 1, Diana St. Gabriel Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews Genre: Romance, New Adult. I found this really hard going to begin. It started well and then...just seemed to tail off. Given Matthew knew who Hallie was to him I just didn’t understand his actions, the way he kept blowing hot and cold, very friendly one moment, ignoring her for days the next. There seemed too to be some gaps where things happened but weren’t really explained, and Hallie seemed to just take everything in her stride. I thought she’d have more questions, I thought the intensity between her and Matthew would have been sizzling, with him finding it hard to stay away but... Still, its an interesting premise, though I’m still unsure of what exactly the Guardians do. It's always hard finding the balance for the first book in a series, setting scene and delivering a good plot and for me this was just an OK read. Promises much but somehow for me it didn’t fully deliver. I’m undecided whether to read more...I guess I’ll wait for next book and see.
. Stars: Three, good intentions but leaves a bit to be desired in the outcome IMO ARC supplied by Netgalley and publishers.
I enjoyed getting to know the different characters and the way they interacted and devoted themselves to the ones they love. The love Hallie and Matthew don't want to admit they have for each other yet can't stay away from each other and the decisions they have to make. I liked the twists presented and and solutions.
My first read from Diana St Gabriel through Masters of the Hunt book 9 Have enjoyed reading this collection of books
An inauspicious beginning for a series. I am still unclear as to the exact function of the Guardians. There are too many gaps in the storyline and that makes for a very uninteresting book.
