I am a Sydney based author - I love reading, I love writing and inventing stories in my head and I hate 'book hang-overs'. I feel lost without a book and can often be found doing the 'sneaky-read' when I should really be doing any other job.

My favourite genres are contemporary romance, historical romance, dark and angsty reads.

This is a fun, fast-paced read that described the world as experienced by Charlotte so well, I felt like I was the one visiting New York. Even though Charlotte is just getting over her ex, Alex, she has no intention of starting a relationship with someone new. The heart has other plans for her, however, and even though she initially dislikes the arrogant Jack Manning, she is nevertheless smitten. A complex character who does not fall within the description of what you see is what you get, the man has hidden depths, and a secret or two. A secret that Charlotte must decide to keep to herself or expose and risk everything.

In her debut novel, Unravelled in New York, author Suzanne Nicole weaves an entertaining chick lit tale with an intriguing mystery twist.

The reader follows the journey of Aussie journalist Charli Cooper as she leaves Sydney after a heartbreak for a new start in New York City. Told in the first person narrative, Charli takes the readers along for the ride as she embarks on a new adventure in New York City as a society page journalist for the New York Herald. With her best friend Mia Benson as her support system, Mia is ready for a new start in the city that never sleeps, but she doesn't expect the challenge that she faces when she meets Jack Manning, the arrogant and wealthy heir to a property development company. Jack is all about advancing his own self-interests, but there are family secrets he wants to keep hidden. As Charli's interest in Jack grows, she begins to investigate the mystery behind the Manning family, and a dilemma arises when she has to choose between her ambition and her heart!

Unravelled In New York was such a fun read, the author easily draws the reader into the story with its wonderful mixture of drama, humor, romance, and mystery. I love a story that features a sassy woman and alpha male, and the author doesn't disappoint the readers with Charli and Jack. I loved following the development of their relationship from its rocky start to the spark that ignited their romantic chemistry. And I would be remiss if I didn't mention how much I enjoyed their witty banter intertwined with the mystery twists behind Jack's family's secrets, it easily kept me captivated and turning the pages.

With an engaging cast of characters, a richly vivid description of the sights and sounds of New York City, and a smooth flowing romantic storyline with an interesting mystery, Unravelled In New York is an enjoyable chick lit tale that will keep the reader thoroughly entertained and wanting more!

My usual reading material is more along the lines of SciFi or paranormal and maybe even a thriller. I always want a good romantic undertone to a story. Contemporary romances (like historical) usually don’t thrill me, but Unravelled in New York is a wonderful read!

Charli. I loved her from the beginning. She is a smart, sophisticated woman who has made some bad mistakes when it comes to love. Charli is a character every woman can relate to. She’s a good mixture of strength and frailty. I’m not a woman who cries often and Charli sheds a few tears in this book, but every time Charli cried, I believed it and the scenes were well written that I didn’t feel the urge to roll my eyes.

Jack. I love alpha male characters as long as they don’t cross that line. Jack is a perfect example. Like most male romantic interests, he starts off a major a*hole, but of course there is more to him that meets the eye. The romance between Charli and Jack was sweet and developed at a believable pace.

There wasn’t much I didn’t like in this book, but the only thing that causes me to give it 4 stars instead of 5 is that the overall plot was predictable. I knew certain things were going to happen as soon as events were set in motion and I groaned when Charli made a very stupid decision. I’ve read plenty of contemporary romances with the same type story arch, but although the story wasn’t that unique there were a few twists in the personal lives of the characters that I thought were brilliant.

Overall a good, light read worth your time.

Unravelled in New York is a contemporary romance novel, but doesn't fall into boring cliches like a lot of them do. The main character has a troubled romantic past, but is ready to move on with her life. As any sensible woman would do, she doesn't want to jump back into dating again, instead wants to focus on herself and her career. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it), the men of New York are much too charming for this Aussie transplant, especially Jack, the most mysterious and unpredictable one she meets.

I found the characters to be realistic and relatable. New York is a great setting I really enjoy "revisiting" through books and movies since I visited a few years ago. The author's details paint a clear image in your mind, but don't become unnecessarily drawn out, so that the reader can use their imagination to fill in the gaps. That's a good thing, because any more description would waste a lot of time and space in a novel. Ideal light reading for anyone looking for a little romantic excitement.

What a fun read! I loved the characters and their personalities. They played well off one another and kept the pages turning. This is light-hearted chick-lit with a few plot twists and enough mystery to keep readers intrigued.

Charli Cooper travels to New York on an exchange program from Australia determined to start fresh. The last thing on her mind is men since she is recovering from a failed relationship. Unfortunately, for Charli fate has other plans---enter Jack Manning. Jack is an interesting character that it takes a little time to love, but he grows on the readers as he grows on Charli.

Jack is so much more than his pretty face lets on. His past together with Charli's threatens to derail them before they really start. The banter between characters is fun and the story moves at a steady pace. I read this in a few hours on a lazy Spring Break day. New York with Jack Manning? I could think of worse ways to spend a few hours! Definitely worth a read, great book by a new author.

Charli Cooper moves from Sydney to NYC, putting herself into an uncomfortable zone, not knowing what to expect in the new job as she starts to work as a reporter--one who hasn't caught up much with the ways of New York City's social orbits. Her curiosity in often arrogant Jack Manning soon rises to a level of interest where she considers romantic possibilities to their romantic relationship. Then Charli learns something about Manning's family that puts her on a fork end of the road - where she has to choose between her mind and her heart. What would she choose?

Unravelled in New York is such an engaging story, with a real feel of NYC that most of us know!

I loved the story Unravelled in New York. The characters are engaging and believable. Charli is likeable and warm and I enjoyed the relationship between Charli, Mia and Clark. I didn't always love Jack, but I wanted him to be the good guy. I enjoyed the writing style, the banter and the twists and turns in this story. I really like the cover too, it drew my attention to the book and made me want to read what it was all about. I enjoyed the book so much I'm going to read it again, something I rarely do.

Their secrets kept you always wanting to read the next page, and I loved the witty little tiffs they would get in. Unravelled in New York is a novel by Suzanne Nicole. The setting is in New York City with all its bustle and noise. The characters are well developed and are very realistic for a romance novel. The plot is somewhat predictable but has several twists and turns that are definitely not predictable. The book is a great book and one that is hard to put down. Suzanne Nicole’s descriptions of the city and where the characters are take you right to that scene and put you into it. You laugh and cry which to me makes for a great book.
Charli Cooper is on her way to New York City from Sydney, Australia on and exchange program to work for the New York Herald. Her friend Mia just happens to be the daughter of the owners and has cleared the way for a job for her. Finally a dream they had of working together in New York City is coming true. Charli is unhappy only for leaving her family behind. She had broken up with her fiancé three months earlier but he still clung to her as if she didn’t mean it. She finally realized how he belittled her and her accomplishments just to make himself feel better. She was off to further her career not to meet men who she no longer trusted.
After a short recuperation period for jetlag, Mia took Charli out for a night on the town with some of her future co-workers. Clark Anderson was giving the party and he took only affirmations for an answer to his invite. Charli went to the bar to refresh their drinks and on turning to go back to the table, she ran into a man and spilled Mia’s chocolate martini on him. Instead of accepting her apology, he ranted and raved at her for her clumsiness and ruining his expensive shirt. She only knew him as JD because the Blond Goddess with him called him that as they left. It was a good thing she wouldn’t have to see him again, she hoped.
One of the first assignments her new boss, Marla Pederson, gave her was to interview advertisers and investors at the reception being held at the Hudson Gallery. She was given a list of names to interview and a photographer to take with her. A last minute guest was added, Jack Manning, and her photographer gave her a brief description of this arrogant man. He was totally surrounded by people so she interviewed all the rest on her list before heading to him. Unfortunately, Jack Manning turned out to be JD who she spilled the drink on! In his arrogant fashion, he shut her down from the interview by stating that the time for interviews was over and her chance for an interview was gone. Over the course of the evening, Charli managed to piece together a great piece for the paper in spite of Jack’s interference.
To her surprise, Jack was in the office the next day with her boss. Charli was given the job of taking his notes and ghost writing a column and blog for him. For the paper, she would do this. She didn’t have to like him to work with him. Was there more to this acquaintance? As time passes, Charli was drawn more and more into Jack’s life, even information which he wanted kept secret. As Charli learns more about Jack, she is given a chance to share that information with an unauthorized biographer who was on the outs with the Manning family. Will she give in?
This is an excellent book.

Charli leaves Australia and travels to New York on an exchange programme with the New York Herald.
Although I'm sure other readers may find the main character likeable, I had a problem with her. Charli is immature, always on the point of tears. Having left one controlling relationship in Australia she's instantly attracted to another domineering and arrogant man. She has plenty of help from those around her. She has the run of her friend's New York apartment and the chance to experience living in a vibrant and fascinating city. Instead of making the most of this opportunity she becomes obsessed with the wealthy property developer, Jack Manning, verging on the point of a break down if she thinks she's being ignored. She's taken to a baseball game by Clark, her co-worker and while talking to Noah Black, an ex player, Jack unexpectedly appears and demands she leaves with him: She does as she's told. When she goes to Boston and returns a coat to Jack's hotel room, the door is opened by Deidre, a friend of Jack's, who Charli assumes has spent the night with him. She cancels her spa appointment, then takes a tour bus guide of Boston without paying attention to any of the sites because she can't stop thinking about Jack. When Charli's ex, Alex, turns up, it's Clark who tells him to leave. Why can't she do this for herself? Jack asks Charli if she'll stay with him and let him look after her. Why does she need looking after? She's a young, independent woman with a promising career.
Charli agrees to meet Ethan McAlister, a reporter who has been prevented from publishing his biography on Jack Manning's family. She asks her colleague in Australia, Matt, to find out what he can about the Mannings. There is a great deal of mystery surrounding the Manning family members; secrets involving the family which have been kept for years and I couldn't quite see the reason for this.
The story is well written and the settings of New York, Boston and Las Vegas are interesting and vividly described, especially that of New York. There are some twists which I didn't see coming and any loose ends are neatly tied up at the conclusion of the book. An enjoyable read for those who don't find the character of Charli too irritating!

I really enjoyed this book; it engaged me from the very start. Charli Cooper, the main character, has a strong voice, and has made some decisions that are life altering for her. The author has done a good job building Charli's character, so she reflects strength and independence, but also shows just enough insecurity and anxiety that I am able to connect to her as a reader. The man Charli falls for, JD Manning, is arrogant at first, but as his defensive layers melt away, and Charli sees the vulnerability he is attempting to hide, she can’t help but fall for him. By the way, it doesn't hurt that he's as handsome as sin!

The supporting characters are well developed, and the plot kept me engaged to the tail end of the story. Even the conflict, which inevitably happens in all romances, was believable and filled with emotion. I would definitely read more from this author!

Keep my attention the entire time!!

I found myself really relating to the main character. Like her, I moved away from a bad breakup and started my life over too. The book took me on a lot of roller coaster emotions since it reminded me a lot of myself. It's a great read about a romance between a sweet girl and a charming arrogant man. It has many twist and turns dealing with relationships, past relationships and family secrets. I don't give away story endings, but it's one that you will enjoy reading to the end.

I received a review copy

First of all, can we just admire the cover? I LOVE it! It was great fun traveling with Charli to essentially try to start over in New York. I was expecting a love story, a romance that doesn’t get off on the right foot, but there was so much more to this book. Even a little bit of mystery was included, which I absolutely loved! And there was a reveal that we learned near the end that I honestly was not expecting! This was fabulous and fun chick lit, and I had an absolute blast reading this.

A fun romance about an Aussie girl who runs away to New York after having her heart broken. I enjoyed going on the journey with Charli and seeing her toughen up as a journalist, without losing her compassion. I found her a likable and relatable character. Jack was a sexy balanced alpha male. I didn't really like him to begin with, but he grew on me.

I received this book free in exchange for an honest review.

Unravelled in New York engaged and absorbed me right from the opening. It was a wonderful escape that had me enthralled the whole way. The story line immerses you in to the lives of the various characters. This romance maintains tension through out, moving the reader through ever changing emotions of fear, embarrassment, disgust, passion and humour. A great book that I couldn't put down.

Suzanne Nicole ravels a formulaic plot into a twisty sweet mélange by speaking in first person and present tense through Charlotte, our heroine. Wanting to be called Charli, she’s a hotshot feature article writer for an Australian newspaper who, by moving to New York, figuratively jumps off the barbie into the flames of an American hot bod, Jack Manning. But Charli quickly dubs him “Jackass Weathervane.” At first, you want her to try harder in ditching this jerk, but you trust her investigative skills will eventually prevail to unravel his mess if you just keep turning the page. Nicole’s successful strategy forces your curiosity into investigating how on earth such a womanizing bully and such an outwardly accomplished, yet an emotional jellyfish of a woman can ever fall hopelessly eternally in love.

Of delightful humour are the occasional gems of Aussie speak – taking the piss now (giving them hell), daggy (geeky), rug up (wear warm clothes), stuff this up (mess it up), organise a cab (get a taxi), and arse (you know that one) – even out of the mouths of the American characters. Nicole spares us from trying to remember the names of too many characters. She lets them all speak for themselves without the omniscient third person set-up, letting us discover what is and ain’t at the same time as Charlotte experiences truths twisting into lies into explanations into revelations into trust into love. Many of the characters seem one dimensional, as some truly must be for the benefit of plot. But most aren’t. And some you may suspect fairly soon are much more than they appear to be, but clever Charli doesn’t realize who they really are until later.

Nicole could have chosen to bore us with dripping literary descriptions of cities, rooms, people, clothes, introspective reasonings; instead she keeps us informed and on course with just enough detail to maintain the credibility of romantic intrigue. The story neither carries us too far nor shortchanges us in scope, and happily keeps us based in reality and expectation for a contemporary romance.

As with any novel, some aspects may appeal to a wide range and others may not. We sense here the allure of travel and adventure, but not too much glitz or disaster. Brightly coloured or darkly shaded characters interlace the weave, though none violent, stupid, or lewd. The most erotic word is “enters.” Yet as a man, I find wearisome Charli’s constant reference to Jack as ultra-uber-super-duper knock-out-godlike handsome while he horribly offends her every chance he gets. Likewise troubling to me is the constant reference to Jack’s smoking cigarettes when the heroine hates it. Equally distracting are the numerous uses of “try and” rather than “try to.” Also, Nicole writes short phrases of reactionary responses incorrectly separated by commas. Dramatise with periods. Even exclamation points! But I don’t want to try to stuff this up because Nicole treats us to a curiously delicious entanglement of Charli’s flows, blows, lows, and glows. I recommend it as a tasty sweet meat from Suzanne Nicole’s grill.

A true contemporary rom-com, chocked full of effervescent friends to support Charli on her on and off journey of not winding up an old maid cat lady, Unravelled in New York will unravel your heart strings tonight. You girls need to keep a pillow handy just to punch it often, cry on it the next minute, take deep breaths in it occasionally, and cuddle up with it as need be. Or with a Jackass Weathervane Man. But guys, don’t ever act like a Jackarse.

ARGH!!! Where do I begin?!? The story starts off muddled with the author throwing information at us in the form of awkward conversations madly attempting to catch us up on the life of our protagonist, Charlotte Cooper. There are no secrets or slowly unfolding back story for her, just machine gun style pellets of information whizzing past us for the first few chapters.

And then the story plays out in the most predictable formula

When Charli Cooper discovers her relationship is heading down into a downward spiral , she decides that it's time to cut her losses and leave. The newspaper that she works with has an exchange programme with a paper in New York and her old boss and his daughter - her best friend Mia have moved over there and so he gets her a job at the New York Herald. Charli is in for a shock though as she is given her first assignment immediately covering a gallery opening and you know how first impressions mean everything - Charli is told to interview upcoming star JD aka Jack Manning and it goes anything but smoothly. The pair from day one are on the rocks and it seems that no matter what Charli does , they seem to clash. Charli's spidey senses tells her though that Jack is hiding something , so she does what she does best - research and goes to uncover the truth about Jack Manning and reaches out to a few of her contacts. During this time Charli finds out a little bit about Jack , then of course we can all see where the romance side is going to pop up as Charli and Jack seem to get closer and closer and he finds himself opening up to her. What will happen though when Jack catches wind of her research and feels betrayed ? Will he cast Charli out to the sea with all the other fishes without an explanation ? Can Charli prove to Jack that she does love him and that she would never betray him and what will occur when Charli's ex comes over from Australia ?

Find out in Unravelled in New York. A story when in order to discover your new path in life, sometimes our lives must unravel at the seams - to start anew.

Thank goodness I got this for only $0.99 (shout out to Amazon and their sporadic sales). That way, I wouldn't feel bad buying this sorry excuse for a book. Now, before I say anything else, I want to give proper recognition to the gorgeous cover. That is what got me hooked in the first place. So yeah, maybe it is my fault for not reading the synopsis and just diving into this just because it featured a suitcase and New York. Maybe I am being a little unfair. It's not the book's fault that I wasn't really up for some chick-lit. But I seriously thought this was a coming-of-age story that unravels when the protagonist moves to New York. SPOILER ALERT: It wasn't.

Yeah, yeah, I know. Mea culpa for judging a book by its cover (and title).

P.S. Although, it did use too much of the word "baby". It would've been sweet if it wasn't for the monotonic dialogue that attempts to disguise itself as a fast-paced exchange of wit.

Unravelled in New York is a well written romantic comedy starring Australian journalist Charli Cooper. She moves to New York after a bad breakup, grows in the process, and, of course, finds her happy ever after. :)

I loved Charli's character arc as she finally learned that she could be happy on her own. I wasn't crazy about the male lead. Yes, he was a jerk at the beginning of the book, as male leads frequently are. But he was still pretty jerky right at the end as well, which threw me. Still, he was clearly Charli's type, so it was believable.

Be warned, there's rougher language in this book than you'd typically find in chick lit, probably because of its Aussie roots.

I think this book would really appeal to fans of the Shopaholic series and similar books. Perfect as a lighthearted beach read!

New York New York, I've always loved New York City settings perhaps for the hustle bustle go-getter men, or the Sex and the City vibe. I was happy to find out the novel was set fully in New York.

New beginnings for the protagonist Charli, new big girl job, new country (hailing from Australia), and big city living. As she learns the ropes to her new home, it comes with challenges, new discoveries, and brushing arms with the top socialites of New York City...and especially one specific dreamy one called Jack Manning who comes with a bad boy package.

Tension rises between the two...and then it breaks... Excellent climatic read, that keeps you wanting more. Loved it.
