This is a beautiful, but yet a horrible, and sad story. About dragons and humans living in harmony, sharing their knowledge to humans. But as the years passed, a new set of humans comes. Takes the dragons scales by force, to make a drug and sets splinters though their peace, and eight thousand years of partnership, reduced to blue smoke in brass pipes.

It was a interesting new way to read about dragons and their lore, and some other types of magic like humans with knowledge that makes them capable to walk in the fire.

I was hooked from the start, but could find that from the middle part it started to drag a bit, with all the war and that. But it's still a incredible start to Mark's newest series.

Highly recommend if you love dragons and want to read about them in another way.

I received an ARC copy for my honest review...

Profiting from the death and destruction of dragons for their scales has become a huge industry. The military seek to stop the Scale trade that has become a lucrative commodity. Scale, a drug created from dragon scales, can quickly take over the mind leaving the user a husk of what they once were. They see, feel, taste, and smell the centuries worth of memories of the dragons the Scale came from, no longer able to seperate their own memories from dragon, and speaking in dragon tongue.
This is a very interesting take on dragons and start to a series. While a little slow in some parts, it maintained a steady pace.
