Separated by a century, one woman shapes her future while the other searches for her family’s past. This captivating story was inspired by a true account of the unlikely convergence of strangers from different backgrounds in the West in the 1800s.

New Mexico Territory 1877 Isabel, an Acoma Native American girl, and Samuel, a young Prussian man, meet and form an unlikely friendship that shapes their futures and those of their peoples.
Berkeley, California 2020 When a quake unearths a family heirloom, and Shira investigates its origin, will her discoveries, the people she meets along the way, and the land she comes to know forever alter her path?
Indigenous was a very interesting story on the surface. Debra Green did do a lot of research to bring this story forward which I appreciated and whet my appetite to learn more about the South West, the Indians who lived there in the 1800's and also about the Jewish population in the US at that time in history.
I enjoyed the 2 in one stories, but for me, and this is just my opinion, I felt like there were too many extra character besides the main ones, that weren't developed enough to make them real....they were mostly distracting from the main story lines. Bringing the current story line in when COVID hits was another distraction as well as the '2 spirited' characters.
The ending was very abrupt in the sense that the character of 'Danny' was just gone with no saying of how that situation resolved, and also 'Jordan' life was left unresolved. IF the epilogue written would have included more info on these situations, I feel like I could have given this 5 stars as I really did enjoy this book.
