Water splashed on all sides then took control of the tires. The car swerved right toward the river.
“No. NO. NO!” I turned the wheel toward the road. It didn’t work. Fast running water pulled the car into the flooded river.

Aspen Foster thinks she’s just a normal sixteen-year-old, but when her car’s caught in a flash flood, Aspen and her sister discover the superhuman strength they never knew they had.

Soon Aspen learns she’s not normal at all. She’s an Evermortal fairy, with powers beyond her wildest dreams. But the more Aspen finds out about her family’s past, the more dangerous her future becomes.

This riveting fantasy is full of action, adventure, and romance. Suspenseful and exhilarating!

When Aspen and her sister are caught in a flash flood, they rescue their two friends and discover that it was not " adrenaline" that helped them all stay alive. Their parents have kept secrets from them about their heritage. They belong to a group descended from fairies, but many of the powers were lost. They are there to protect mankind.

This revelation leads to a lot of action and danger. Trouble has been brewing in their homeland and the family must band together to stop the evil Queen.

I enjoyed the fantasy aspect of this book. This is a different kind of fairy than what I usually read. The setting is new and unique and the characters enjoyable. The plot felt solid to me and had a great pace.

It seemed as if everyone accepted the changes a little too easy. Some of the plot points were glossed over, but I am not sure how Kathryn Cooper could have changed that. This book is written for the YA market and is perfect for the indention readership. I think this is a solid debut and I look forward to reading more from this author. I think that this book may have more to follow, there are several places she can take it and it may delve into the fairy realm.

Paranormal isn't my typical go-to genre, but I did enjoy this story. I thought the author did a great job of building this new world. Some books take forever to set the stage and introduce the types of characters that live in this setting, but this book is done in a way that is not only natural, but doesn't take a lot of time.

Aspen and her older brother, Ash, and younger sister, Willow, discover they have some super crazy powers after a big storm rips through their Texas town. They uncover many secrets along their journey to discovering who they really are. I enjoyed the characters and the moments of intense action and adventure, but (no surprise) the romance is my favorite. There is almost a love triangle, of sorts, that emerges, and it is necessary to propel the plot forward.

I thought the plot was interesting and I love being jerked around. The story would be smooth and calm and then some intrigue would arise. Fast-paced action/adventure would follow and I was left wondering what was lurking around the corners.

The story ends on a note where there is some resolution, but it's left open for more and I hope that more is coming. This is a great read for those who love clean paranormal.

Content: mild romance (kissing); mild violence (some fantasy fighting, attempted kidnappings, prisoners, etc).

*I received a complimentary copy from the publisher. All thoughts and opinions are my own.*

Aspen Everlasting is a fun paranormal romance.  This is the perfect fit for young teens as well as adults who want a clean romance that is entertaining to read.

I'm not always a fan of romances because they feel cheesy sometimes, but there was plenty of humor and teasing that kept the cheesiness at bay.  This quote is from the beginning where the main character, Aspen, and the childhood friend she is developing a crush on named Nate almost drown.  He comes over and hugs her like friends do and he's obviously concerned for her.  They're embracing and ... it doesn't go quite the way she imagined.

Was this the moment I had waited for? Nate was going to kiss me. I could tell by his eyes that his gratitude for my survival would bring his lips to mine. My heartbeat sped up with . . .

“You look terrible,” he said.

Okay. Moment gone.

Ha ha! Makes me laugh every time I read it.

I've known the author, Kathryn, for a couple of years now.  She was a book blogger before she became an author and that's how I met her.  Among book bloggers the line, "The breath I DIDN'T know I was holding" is a well known cliche that they love to point out because how can you not know something like that?  So when I read the following line in Aspen Everlasting, I could see her experience as a book blogger shining through.
The breath I was holding released through my mouth.

-Kindle location 11

Thank you for not using cliches!

My curiosity was peaked as the hidden paranormal world started to unfold.  It reminded me of the King Arthur type of fairies that hide in the woods and capture men.  They live forever, are dangerous, and can't always be trusted.  I loved the way Kathryn made the fairy world her own by having good fairies that had given up the immortality as well as the more traditional evil fairies.

One of the most unique things about Aspen Everlasting is the relationship Aspen has with her siblings.  Her siblings - Ash and Willow - are an important part in the story line and they are good friends.  It was nice to read about functional family relationships.  There's some tension with the parents that was realistic.  I liked how much the parents were involved in the story.  It was nice to see that even though they loved each other and got along, they still had to work through things with each other.

In Aspen Everlasting, we're taken into the world of Evermortals. Aspen discovers she has strength much greater than the average person, and will age much slower as an adult. Her family has the same powers. She also discovers that things have been hidden from her, and all is not as it seems.

Aspen Everlasting is a quick read, and packed full of action and suspense. There's even a romance, and while I admit romance isn't at the top of my reading list lately, I genuinely enjoyed it. It was sweet, and I found myself smiling different times while reading. I loved the close family relationship between Aspen and her parents and brother and sister, too.

I can't wait to read more from Kathryn! I want the next book NOW! ;)

I love this book so much! It was fantastic! It was so imaginative and different. I've never read anything like it before and it drew me in right away! Cooper’s world building was spot on. Her visuals made it easy to see exactly what she was trying to convey and it just felt like I was in this world with Aspen. I loved it. I know I already say that. But I feel like it needed to be said again. I hope there’s a second one!

What a great novel from a new author! I love discovering these little gems because I know the authors have a great career ahead of them. This book had many endearing qualities. The first is the humor. There were many places I laughed out loud. The second is the amazing relationships she had with everyone around her: Nate, her parents, and especially her siblings. These believable relationships made me connect with Aspen. I found myself experiencing the same emotions with her as she uncovered the many secrets hidden in her life.

I highly recommend this novel to anyone who enjoys reading young adult, light paranormal novels. Grab your copy today!

When Aspen and her sister Willow are caught in a flash flood their whole life takes a turn.
They threw their friends to safety and then were able to jump further than they ever had. They just tossed it up to a huge adrenaline rush.

Apsen, Willow and their brother Ash soon realize that their adrenaline rush is not really that. They have strength like they had never had before. This is when the party begins.

Okay, party might be the wrong word, but isn't a party exciting? So, this is where the excitement / party begins.

Apsen and her siblings soon find out there is more to their lives than they have ever know. In this story about lies, faeries, evermortals, and unity, we are taken to a world that Apsen and her siblings have never been part of, but are now expected to save.

There are so many things Apsen doesn't know about her family and it all seems to be unraveling. One thing stands true though. She will fight for what she believes in. Although her parents had not been forthcoming with her in the beginning, she trusts them will all her being, and is determined to stop the Queen.

This story was fun to read. I think it would be great for younger readers too, who like faeries, and hidden worlds. It is a great adventure. You get to step into another world and fight with Aspen and her family as they try to save the evermortals.

If you like, adventure, deception, faeries, love and loyalty, you will enjoy this book. It's a fun world to enter and enjoy as you leave life behind for a few hours.

Content: Clean and great!

This is such a fun book! I was not prepared for the wild ride it would take me on from the very beginning.

I loved the way you first meet Aspen, she's a normal 16 year-old, she has a crush on the boy next door and she has some great girlfriends. The first scene where they're playing "Sardines" really grabbed my attention. Then, Aspen ends up having to leave and gets caught in a swollen river in her car with her sister Willow and some friends. That's when the craziness starts happening. Willow is able to break the window on the car with only her bare hands and no injuries. Then both she and Aspen are able to throw their two friends way farther then they ever would have imagined. And finally, Aspen's glass cuts heal while she and Willow are watching. Freaky! And that's when she learns that she and both of siblings are Evermortals. That's a huge secret that her parents have kept for a very long time and it's really only the tip of the iceberg of the secrets that they've kept.

I loved all of the action and adventure in this one. There is something new and exciting with every turn of the page. I loved that there's a touch of romance in this one too. And I really loved the kind of character that Aspen is, she's a really take charge girl and she gets herself into tricky situations, and most of the time she needs help to get back out of them.

The other characters in this book are great too! I loved that it was really hard to tell just who was with Aspen and her family and who was fighting against them. It made it hard to tell just who they could trust.

This is a cute book that I had fun reading! Hoping this isn't the last of Aspen's adventures with her family!

An engaging book from start to finish

I like a book that draws me in from the first chapter. Aspen Everlasting did that. In my youth during the summer all I did was read. I would finish a book like Harry Potter in one night. Now a busy mom to 3 I don't have that luxury but I found myself taking every extra moment I had to find out what was going to happen next.
This young adult fiction has action, adventure, and romance. I felt as if I got to know the characters well and was a part of Aspen's inner circle. I was left wanting more.
I would recommend this book to young adults and adults who enjoy fiction and fantasy and leaving reality for a moment to be a part of something more. I hope there will be more to come.

Loved this book! An amazing story with all of the fun, adventure, comic relief, romance and action you could want. The last several chapters had me staying up way past my bedtime to see what would happen next. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys clean, young adult fiction, with a touch of romance and fantasy thrown in the mix. Can't wait for the next book!

Aspen Everlasting is a YA paranormal book. It would be great for the younger side of YA because the characters are younger and this book is clean.

The pacing of this book is good. I felt like I had time to get to know the characters even when events were moving quickly. This book revolves around Aspen and her family of Evermortals. It's a likable bunch of people and I was interested in their stories and their success. I liked the movement between "worlds" as it gave me a sense of grounding along with a sense of adventure.

I felt like the ending had resolution but it kind of left things in a place where future books could be a possibility. I think there are three siblings here with continuing stories to be told!

This was a fun book. I enjoyed reading it!

Aspen and her sister, Willow, are caught in a flash flood with two of Willow's friends. As the car is sinking, Aspen and Willow both find some inhuman strength and kick open windows and well as throw Willow's two friends an incredible distance to safety. Both are very surprised by this strength but chalk it up to adrenaline (we've all heard of the parent who has lifted a car off their child or some story along those lines) so it's not too hard to believe. At least, it's not too hard to believe until the next day when they both still have this incredible strength. When their brother, Ash, also exhibits the same strength, the teens decide to go out and look for their parents (a park ranger and nature photographer) to get some answers.

The answers that the kids' parents have for them are unbelievable. They are Evermortal fairies that are in hiding from the queen. They learn all this quickly as they are on the run from the queen's henchmen so they don't have much time to get all the details but Aspen certainly has a lot of questions.

After arriving safely home, Aspen gets a few more answers from her parents. Evermortals age more slowly than humans and her parents are really much older than they thought, as are their grandparents. Evermortals are incredibly good looking as well. Aspen isn't sure how to deal with these things or let her crush, Nate know. Until she finds out that Nate is also special. She also finds out that there are more Evermortals in her town than she knew of.

Now Aspen has to figure out what other secrets her parents are hiding from her (and there are many more) and try to stay safe, which is hard to do when you don't know which people are your friends and which ones are your enemies.

This was a fun and quick book to read. I love that it was a clean read (some kissing between Aspen and Nate but that's all) and I would totally feel comfortable with my daughter reading it. The only thing that was a little off for me was how quickly the kids accepted what they were. Aspen certainly had questions for her parents but if my parents told me that I was a fairy, my reaction would not be as easy going and accepting as Aspen's and her sibling's reactions were. Aspen also put herself into danger a couple of times that was unnecessary. I understood her need for information but sometimes she just wasn't thinking at all.

All in all, this was a fast paced read full of excitement and a little romance. The end tied up nicely but left things open for possibly another book. I really enjoyed it!

Aspen Everlasting
By Kathryn Cooper

Aspen Foster is your average teenage girl - at least she was until her car was caught in a flash flood and lives were at stake. Suddenly Aspen and her younger sister Willow feel something different - their adrenaline rush has not subsided. And when their older brother Ash walks in on them trying out their new super-strength they know something unusual is going on.

When the three can't contact their parents they go is search of them and answers. What they discover will change their world and life forever. They are not human and are in fact hiding from enemies of their family. But still secrets are being kept and Aspen is determined to discover the truth - even if it means meeting with the enemy.

But how do you deal with your new reality while still trying to live your old life? Aspen, Ash, and Willow are about to find out. But when those loyal to Queen Olivee manage to track them down Aspen discovers that she is a target - the only question is why.

But more is at stake than anyone could ever imagine and Aspen finds that the only forward is to confront the truth and deal with the lies that are tearing a hidden world apart. But can she find away to thwart the manipulations of an evil queen before she loses everyone she loves?

This is a fun read and from the opening lines one would never suspect one is about to enter a realm that is fantasy. The story is set both within a fairy world and the world as we know it. Making it through High School and Homecoming just took an unexpected turn! This story will appeal to readers of YA and who love a touch of fantasy and adventure in their stories. This is one book I would love if a sequel would be forthcoming as I'd love to know what comes next in the lives as these people.

I was provided a digital review copy of this book by the publisher with no expectations of a positive review - all opinions expressed are my own.

Have you ever dreamed of waking up one morning and finding out you are a princess?
A real princess?
I know I have. Who hasn’t wanted the ‘fairy tale ending’? Princess. Prince. Palace. Servants. Leisure and love and every dream you have ever dreamt—fulfilled.
But sometimes, discovering one is a princess doesn’t prove to be the ticket to Utopia one expects . . .
Aspen, a normal sixteen-year-old high school junior copes with a normal teenager’s life. Friends, a budding romance, school politics, homework, siblings.
And then she discovers that her life is anything but.
Normal, that is.
In one 24 hour period, not only does she discover she and her siblings are (1)not human and (2)children of the heir to a fairy queendom, but also (3)their lives and the lives of many around them are in mortal danger and (4)there are an equal number of common acquaintances that cannot be trusted. Behind a friendly face may lurk an assassin. Or kidnapper.
I probably don’t have to tell you it is quite a day.
But all will be well if Aspen marries the son of the evil queen, remains a prisoner in the castle, allows the even more evil queen to overrun the queendom, and foregoes ever seeing her family, or friends—or happiness—again.
Yeah. Those choices don't sound great to me, either.
Aspen, Everlasting is a fun, energetic, exciting romp through the forests somewhere between here and the kingdom of the fairies. It is peopled by characters who could easily pass as the family next door. Or the teachers and students of the local high school.
And who prove to be anything but.
Got teens? Or anyone who enjoys a good fantasy?
Grab yourself a copy and buckle up! I loved the ride!

Before I give my review, I think it's only fair to say that I've never read a YA novel before. I don't even read a lot of fantasy. I'm more of an action and adventure kind of reader.

With that said, and to be perfectly honest, I thought "Aspen Everlasting" was a terrific read! It was fun! I was a little put out when I finished it because I wanted to keep on going. If there's a sequel, I'll read it.

Yes, of course there was some YA stuff in it, like teenage romance, heartthrobs and BFFs, but the storyline was what grabbed me. It follows the unexpected adventure of Aspen, a high schooler who always thought she was just a normal kid from a normal family, with normal next door neighbors, etc. Boy, was she wrong! But it's a good thing. She wasn't a nasty witch or anything - she was an ever mortal.

If you want to know what an evermortal is, or what happened to Aspen on her adventure, you're going to have to read the book yourself! No other hints from this reader.

I proudly support Texas authors, and I think Kathryn Cooper is an incredibly talented one! Great job!!
