In the aftermath of the 1896 Shona Rebellion, a handful of settlers strive to make a country out of the Central African wilderness. In 1923, that country - Rhodesia - finally became reality. Taking Root follows the lives and loves, achievements and disappointments, of those who - rightly or wrongly - succeeded in creating a country that, for a while at least, they could call their own. Nor does it forget that, before the white man came, people were living there. This book is a sequel to Monomotapa's Children, which told the stories of those who were there earlier. And, as with Monomotapa's Children, it is a historical novel which tells the tale through the eyes of both black and white. As an introductory offer, both Monomotapa's Children and Taking Root will be available as free downloads from Amazon from 11-15 July 2015.
