Sometimes, all you want are superheroes who do awesome things, and man, does Blitzkrieg deliver! The story tells the origins of a group of superhumans, the results of Nazi experimentation during World War II. After a harrowing opening that describes the merciless Nazi experiments that led to the creation of the superpowered children, the kids' lives take an unexpected turn when the Americans invade and whisk them off to a new life. Afraid that the Soviets might be creating their own race of superhumans, the Americans train the rescuees from the Nazi experiments to fight for them. A few years later, the kids have grown into newbie superheroes-to-be and are then thrown into a world of secret missions and thrilling intrigue. Our heroes eventually learn of a long-lost Nazi secret that could unleash great power... and must get to it before the Soviets do.
I don't want to say too much more because that would ruin all the twisty-turny action that takes place, so suffice it to say that there's LOTS of action and mayhem throughout. The plot barrels forward like a bullet train, whisking you from thrill to thrill. The universe reminded me somewhat of X-Men: First Class (in the whole starting with Nazis and leading to superhumans battling evil during the Cold War thing), but is unique in its own ways. Also, X-Men: First Class is one of my favorite things ever, so anything that evokes that is awesome in my book.
The characters are forced to deal with a variety of issues... demons from the past, questions of allegiance and loyalty, learning to work as a team... the push and pull that comes with finding yourself and your place in the world while also trying to save the day. Much of the story evokes classic comic book themes and action scenes, which totally come alive in your head. Lovers of superhero fiction and comic books will eat this up.
Blitzkrieg: Origins of the Prime: A Superhero Spy Thriller is one long title for a relatively quick read. Geared toward young male readers (in my opinion), this adventure grips you quite quickly with the introductory scene: Nazis, Jews, and bullets. It sets the tone of the book as well as launches into the genetic modifications needed to create superhuman children.
Three sets of twins, one older and indoctrinated into the Nazi-Germany beliefs, and a pair born relatively at the same moment; each yielding two strong, but mentally underdeveloped boys, a boy with electrifying powers, and a girl that so fast you are lucky to catch a blur when she's in motion.
As Germany falls, the Soviets move into grab one set and the Americans the other; pitting former friends into Cold War enemies. Toss in a psychotic high-ranking Nazi and life is not only a true challenge, but also a fight for survival.
In this book, which one assumes is a launch to a future set or series, readers get to some back-story and follow the adventures of the twins. Blitz and Krieg, and Hammer and Sickle.
Overall this is quite entertaining and the pace is constant. It is rather indicative of the Hero Arc process and a bit predictable. As stated, this should be marketed to young readers. I received a review copy of this book and I'm glad I was able to experience the adventure.
Blitzkrieg: Origins of the Prime is a well crafted Spy Super Hero Thriller. And, I would imagine that fans of this genre will love sinking their teeth into this one! This is my first time reading this author and I must say I was very impressed.
The story had every element a good story should have. An exciting plot, attention to detail, but best of all fleshed out, well-written and well-rounded character development. There’s an abundance of well illustrated scenes that really make you feel like you are right there in the story, and that's something I really look for in a good book.
This captivating and commendable work had me immersed from the beginning. The story flows from scene to scene with ease, and the author shows exceptional skill when it comes to storytelling. There are twists and turns in this page turner that will take the reader on a fascinating journey!
It’s one of those stories that come along once in awhile that makes you want to read it non-stop until you get to the end. I’m giving nothing further away here. And this, I hope, will only add to the mystery and enjoyment for the reader!
I’ll certainly be looking forward to reading more from Christopher Vale in the future! I would definitely recommend this book! Five stars from me.
As a superhero fan and someone who watches tons of WWII documentaries, I figured this book would be right up my alley. Maybe my expectations going in were too high, but I struggled to finish it.
The WWII part of the story is fairly brief before you are moved twenty years forward; I’d have liked if more time was spent in WWII.
The characters reminded me of something out of the golden age of comics where the good guys are pure and good, and the bad guys are evil with no redeeming qualities. The problem was this made them seem a bit two dimensional at times.
The ending scene in Vietnam kind of ‘jumped the shark’ for me as well. (To avoid spoilers, I won’t go into details).
There were good points to the book. The writing and editing were solid. Origin stories also can drag a bit and this one did a bit but not as much as it could have. It built a firm and interesting foundation for future books in the series. The old school comic book atmosphere was well done.
If you are a fan of older comics, then I’ll recommend this book as a must read. If you are a looking for something like The Watchmen, Suicide Squad, or Deadpool, then this probably isn’t what you are looking for.
A tale of super powered people being created during World war two by national socialist scientists, eventually culminates in the Vietnam war. Sort of young adult.
Christopher Bale creates a new universe taking off of the Nazi experiments during WW2. The characters are well thought out and developed nicely. The story is original as well as entertaining and engaging. Multiple storylines evolve during the telling of the story which is done fluently and with flair. I'm looking forward to the expansion of this universe and the development of characters briefly touched upon but with possibly huge impacts on the main characters. Definitely recommend.
I just finished Blitzkrieg: Origins of the Prime .....and I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. The story picked me up and whisked off on an epic journey. I became emotionally attached to the characters as they dealt with their origins, loyalties, their powers, their missions and their futures. I felt as though their lives could've truly happened and was kept secret by the powers that be. Christopher Vale is a master at bringing the story to life. Lots of action, intrigue, suspense aND at tInes very intense. I caught myself several times literally shaking my leg (something I do when the story gets very intense and I'm furiously reading to see what happens next) I love when a story can take me there! Truly this is a must read. ..You will not be disappointed!
I received a copy from the author. ..I thanked him and said I would give an honest review.
How crazy does this sound. Superhero book and a spy thriller! This is really an enjoyable book. As you know I really enjoy SuperHero books but only if the story holds up and there are good characters in the story. This book has all that and more. The setting in WWII was a great idea. The characters were great ( the good and the bad) and just a lot of good old action. This is one of those books you don't want to put down and will differently want the next book in the series. Do yourself a favor and read this. I know you will get a kick out of it.
Not a bad read. I've read a LOT of comic books, so this is pretty standard stuff. Would like to see more time between missions. i enjoy reading about dual identities, and for the most part, they just hung together between missions, with a rare exception.More backstory between the Nazi days and their current situation would be good too.
I liked it though and may read more in the series.
