This was a great sequel to Melancholia. Rae and Malcolm are on the run, with the help of the awesome Jasmine and Kootch and of course, Jasmine's parents . Things soon get out of hand when Rae and Malcolm, against the very strict orders of Mr & Mrs Butts, decide to explore the new and exciting city they find themselves in, which leads them directly into the hands of the people they were trying to avoid in the first place. The group of people who are trying to kidnap Rae, have no idea that Malcolm is also an Influencer, who is just as powerful as Rae, which is just as well as it works to their advantage.
In typical Elle Casey style, the book is filled with interesting characters, scenarios and - as stated in the warning - smartassery. I love the smartassery. One of the perks of having a kindle is the ability to highlight all the interesting bits for later use. I use mine to highlight all the smartassery. When I went back to read some of the highlighted notes, they were all about Jasmine and her war of words with Kootch. Poor Kootch, there is just no way on earth he is ever going to win in a verbal confrontation with her - she has had years of practice at putting him in his place, but that does not mean he gives up, he is ever hopeful of one day winning an argument, and who knows, she may just let him ...... one day.
Euphoria was a fast paced an fun read. And then it got too fast paced and too fun. I enjoyed the banter between the characters but at some point it got too be too much. It went from cute to annoying to overdone. There was too much focus on these scenes between Kooch and Jazzy that made it seem as though the author was grasping at words to fill the pages.
The story also fell short for me where everything began to seem very rushed. Maybe if things didn't work out so perfectly for Casey's characters, she would have had a much more exciting story.
All in all it was a nicely casual kind of read. This won't stop me from indulging in more of Casey's work.
I felt like this book just stopped in the middle of a thought. There wasn't a conclusion at all. Am I missing something? Is there going to be a third one?
This is the second book in the Duality series and oh my goodness I hope the next one is out soon! I read this book without pausing, not even a break for a drink. It was thoroughly engrossing until the end. The story continues where the previous book left off seamlessly. Rae and Malcolm are at Jazzy Butt's house where the police, the rainbows and Rae's parents are looking for her. The story continues with the "super agents" Butts parents plan to get Rae to safety. Needless to say it does not go to plan and Rae and Malcolm end up meeting the bad guys! We learn more about Rae and Malcolm's talents and we see these in action. There are revelations, that beg for more explanation and book time and although the book ended with a definite ending, there is still plenty more story needing telling! The characterisation in the book is superb, as always, both the two main characters and also Jazzy and Kootch who are excellent supporting characters. Please, Elle Casey, write another book in this series soon!
I enjoyed reading the sequel of melonchalia. Elle's characters are ways well rounded and so likeable. I enjoyed the alternating viewpoints of Rae and Malcolm. Another great story by Elle Casey. I read the book in one sitting it's that good.
No words...just LOVED IT. I'm just wondering, is it going to be a third book in Rae and Malcom's story? Elle Casey, would you mind answering that for me? Thanks!
Every time I read an Elle Casey book I always come away feeling like it's the best book I've ever read, then the next book comes out and I get to feel that way all over again. Duality Vol 2: Euphoria picks up right where Melancholia left off. Rae and Malcolm are on the run from an evil organization which wants to use their unique powers for their own purposes. But this time neither character is alone. With the help of their friends Jasmine (Jazzy) and Kootch along with Jasmine's ex-military conspiracy theory parents they leave town, on the run, trying to stay one step ahead of those who wish to use them. Malcolm and Rae's powers and lives have been the exact opposite of each others. Rae can cause people to be happy: too happy and has lived a sheltered yet rich life while Malcolm can cause people misery and has been in foster home after foster home living in utter poverty yet both of them have so much in common. They've never been able to allow anyone close to them for fear of what they could accidently them or themselves. Now together they have finally found the one thing they never thought they would have, someone to love, friends, and a normal life because together they can be normal, they're dual powers cancel each other out and they don't have to live in fear so everything should be perfect, except for the fact that they are being chased by an evil organization which will stop at nothing to possess them and their abilities.
Euphoria much like it's predecessor was extremely original. I loved the twist on paranormal powers and how for most of their lives their powers were a curse and not something any sane person would want to live with. Elle Casey's books are always fun and entertaining and her characters always have very strong personalities. They're the kind of people you can't but help wishing were real. The story was fast paced and full of action with a bit of romance and her words always flow so well that I usually don't even notice I'm reading a book, it's just one big movie screen in my mind. Mostly though I think this book (actually all of her books) are just so full of life. I really don't even know how else to describe it. I can't help feeling that my life is enriched each and every time I read one of her books and Euphoria was no exception. Books are a special kind of magic and every time I read one of Elle Casey's books I'm reminded of that fact. So go out and get Duality Vol: 1 if you haven't already and then read this one and allow a little bit of magic into your lives.
Elle Casey manages to do it to me every single time I read one of her books. I open it, thinking I will just take a quick peek before I start working, and then I look up, dazed, three hours later with the last page read. The Duality series is shaping up to be one of my favorites. They are so different than her usual books, but so the same in a good way. The way that lets you know Elle wrote it, lots of smart ass comments that have you laughing out loud. I won’t go into much detail since it is the second book in the series and I would hate to ruin it for anyone, but here goes.
Duality, Volume 2: Euphoria, starts off right where the last one ended. Rae and Malcolm have realized that they cancel each other out and that they need to get Rae out of town. They get help from Jasmine, Kootch, and Jasmine’s parents, going on a road trip alone that ends up to be more than they bargained for when they do not follow the rules. Get ready for action, adventure, kidnapping, and even a little sexy time. Throw in Jasmine’s smart mouth and Kootch’s theatrics along with Malcolm’s broody sexiness and Rae’s hesitant cheerfulness, and you get a sequel that lives up to the first. I cannot wait to see where Elle takes them next!
Just when you didn't think this book could get better than the first, we’ll let me tell you that would be so wrong on so many levels. This series is just so awesome. Rae finds out more about herself and her family that she ever knew. No one can figure out why Malcolm is not being searched for, yet. Mr. and Mrs. Butts do everything they can to help the two, but naturally the two believe they can just blend in and not be noticed. Huge mistake, naturally. Mayhem ensues. Game of cat and mouse is started. Jazzy and Kootch are caught in the middle of all this time and are just as willing to go along, again. I am just so happy that those two finally see the light about their feelings too, even if it is a faint glimmer. But as all of Elle’s series continue, I was so ready to throw my phone due to the ending of this one too. But I am so ready for the next one to come out. Thank you so much for this series. It is awesome.
OK, work and kids really get in the way of my reading time. FINALLY finished this book. It didn't take a long time because I didn't enjoy, it took a long time becaue of work, basketball practice, wrestling practice, house sitting, dentist appointments, and family. But did I like it? Oh yes I did! The story was unique and characters amazing. There's rarely predictability in Elle's books and when there is, it's GREAT predictability. You all know what I mean that have read it. The rest of you just need to dive and and discover it yourself.
I was really looking forward to this 2nd book. I found the first one so surprising & intriguing. About 1/3 or 1/4 of the way in it looked like the set-up to a very predictable plot scenario...but then it took a left turn & totally lived up to my expectations!
I love that everyone gets a chance to be smart & kick butt. The Butts parents & our 4 heroes do have a lot of work ahead of them. How can you really fight an organization with Influencers all over? How can Rae & Malcolm ever feel safe? Hopefully there will be another book.
As hard as volume onen was for me to get into volume. two was just intoxicating.. the constant movement of the story along with Ellesmere gift for unique and witty sarcasm, made this series another great on in portfolio of entertainment..
Malcolm and Rachel are on the run from people who want to use their unique gifts to gain power. Malcolm and Rachel get pulled around from place to place, and finally decide that if they want a shot at a normal life they have to run away together with no one else.
This was so good! and the humor omg it had me in tears. Is there a 3rd book to this series? Thank you for the great reads! I was so glad to find it made it to BN and for my nook.
