Someone is terrorizing the elderly in a certain neighborhood in Spookie and vandalizing their homes. As usual, Abigail Sutton, a freelance artist, and her boyfriend Frank Lester, a retired homicide detective, are called in to help find out who’s doing these awful acts. The two seem to have an uncanny knack for unraveling mysteries and getting to the bottom of such strange happenings. Some of the old people think it’s ghosts in their basements, in their homes, doing these destructive deeds but Frank doesn’t believe in ghosts; while Abigail isn't so sure. Then the old folks begin to disappear one by one or to die suspiciously and Frank thinks there’s a sinister plan behind the crimes and is determined to uncover who or what is responsible. In the end, they, with a little help from their friend eccentric old Myrtle, must solve the mystery or more of the old ones in town might end up dead. Sequel to Scraps of Paper (Spookie Town Murder Mystery #1) and All Things Slip Away (Spookie Town Murder Mystery #2)
About Kathryn Meyer Griffith 2023 Since childhood I’ve been an artist, and have worked as a graphic designer in the corporate world and for newspapers for twenty-three years before I quit to write full time. But I’d already begun writing novels at 21, over fifty-one years ago now, and have had thirty-five (romantic horror, horror novels, romantic SF horror, romantic suspense, romantic time travel, historical romance, thrillers, one non-fiction short story collection, dinosaur books, and murder mysteries) previous novels and thirteen short stories published from various traditional publishers since 1984. But I’ve gone into self-publishing in a big way since 2012; and upon getting all my previous books’ full rights back for the first time in 36 years, have self-published all of them. My seven Dinosaur Lake novels and Spookie Town Murder Mysteries (Scraps of Paper, All Things Slip Away, Ghosts Beneath Us, Witches Among Us, What Lies Beneath the Graves, All Those Who Came Before, When the Fireflies Returned, and Echoes of Other Times) are my best-sellers. I was married to Russell for over forty-three years; have a son, two grandchildren and a great-granddaughter. I live in a small quaint town in Illinois. I have a quirky cat, Sasha, and we live happily in an old house in the heart of town. Though I’ve been an artist, and a folk/classic rock singer in my youth with my late brother Jim, writing has always been my greatest passion, my butterfly stage, and I’ll probably write stories until the day I die…or until my memory goes. 2012 EPIC EBOOK AWARDS *Finalist* for her horror novel The Last Vampire ~ 2014 EPIC EBOOK AWARDS * Finalist * for her thriller novel Dinosaur Lake.

Oh man, it’s good to be back with Abigail, Frank, Myrtle and the gang in Spookie Town. Not only do we have a murder mystery, but we have a little bit of the supernatural going on. Is it good or bad? I’ll leave that for you to find out for yourself.
Myrtle is an eccentric (?) who sees ghosts and I love how she pops in and out of Abigail and Frank’s life. Abigail and Frank are a couple, but they have yet to make that final decision, to live together. Abigail has two children that she took in when they were orphaned. You can find the details out in All Things Slip Away and it is a wonderful story.
Abigail got up in the morning and as soon as she stepped outside felt something…was in the air…and it didn’t feel good. Myrtle comes to Abigail with a request. Will she help her neighbor, who is being haunted by a ghost? Bumps in the night doesn’t begin to describe what she is going through.
They are not ghost whisperers, ghost busters, or ghost hunters, but they will get to the bottom of the mystery of the burglaries, hauntings, missing people, and dead bodies. Just because they are older and quickly dismissed by the small town police, doesn’t mean it isn’t happening and someone must step in before something else happens.
Are the police just inept, lazy and useless, or are they part of the problem? That is one of the things I love about small towns, the unique, fun, and interesting characters that add as much to the story as the mystery we are here to solve.
BUT, also in a small town:
“You’re one of us. Remember I told you, we take care of our own in Spookie. That’s what we do.”
I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of Ghosts Beneath Us by Kathryn Meyer Griffith.
I have been reading this series this summer and found the first two mysteries very good. I really couldn't put the first one down. This book while good, wasn't quite as gripping. There was a lot of recapping of the first two stories that I just didn't think we're really needed. The plot could have been little bit more complex S well. But it was still a good read. I will purchase the 4th book Nd see if the author has a better story. Sometimes even great authors write to pay bills, not because they have a story to tell....
I have read all the books so far. I had the one figured out very early in the book, there was so much reiterating what was already said, the timeline was off quite often as well. Finally, I hated how many times "old people" was written when referring to the elderly people, it was over used and seemed a bit disrespectful. I will read the next book.
This is the third in the series. Didn't enjoy it as much Sturbridge two. The plot was okay but I noticed discrepancies in the book. And maybe a few too many people dying for it to be believable?
Not my favorite of the series so far. Very repetitive from the first two books. And there are some discrepancies in a few things throughout the book. They’ll say one thing this chapter then something different the next. Other than that it was still a good read! Will keep reading the others. :)
This series keeps getting worse. This one is my least favorite so far. Book one had a great story, even if her style isn't right for me, but this one ... the story felt mostly like filler. She had this little idea, kept repeating herself over and over, and the characters talk things to death. And even though it is obvious what is going on, the characters even hint and mention they know what's going on, a few pages later it's said again and the characters act like it's such a shock or surprise ... I can't hardly stomach it. Also, the characters never get annoyed or mad or argue with each other, her and her adopted daughter are so amazing at art, everyone is so perfect and happy all the time ... please. Also, book one was Abigail solving a mystery. Since then it's Frank, and he just fills Abihail in. Also, there's way too much "filling characters in" on what's happening, it's stupid. For instance, one particular scene one character updated another. A third character was supposed to be there to hear, but ran late. Finally showed up and they AGAIN, had to update information for this character. That'd not be a big deal if it was somehow plot related, but it wasn't. There was literally no reason for that. Like I said, she had a tiny idea for a story and did everything she could to drag it out into a book. I'm now reading the next one, but I don't have much hope for it.
It's a cozy mystery and I shouldn't expect much from that. It's the third I've read, and while I really enjoyed the first one, and not so much the second, this one is another drawn out story that is way too predictable. Way too much "town" life...eating at the diner, painting murals, opening a donut shop....just get on with the story. If not for the interesting characters, I probably wouldn't even have given this one a go. Besides bad editing, and some unrealistic dialogue (what young teenaged boy uses the word "forgo"?) the supposedly smart people are surprisingly dumb. Why else do you think the people are being scared off? I recognized right from the start that there had to be some reason attached to the land....the land itself or the minerals beneath it. Interpreting the ghostly messages are very clear to me...why does it need to be spelled out by someone else? The Sheriff really cannot be that obtuse either. I am miffed that there is no resolution to Tina's disappearance. Will I read another? Probably...because they are quick reads and the characters are interesting, but it surely won't be for the mystery.
Spookie; what an appropriate name for the town in more ways than one. The dense fog that rolls in for ambiance and the “ghosts” that direct Abby, Frank, and of course Myrtle. Myrtle herself is a humorous character and quirky in her attire and the way she presents herself as a eccentric character. She is always finding mysteries and murders for Abby and Frank to solve while trying to help them solve them. And then there is the subplot of Frank and Abbys romance along with Abby’s foster children who she obtained as a result of their father’s murder in the previous book.
Book 3 of Spookie Town Murder mysteries. The old folks are scared by ghost, being vandalised, disappearing, and dying. Myrtle asks Abby and Frank to figure out why. I started reading this Easter and this book started in the Easter season. Spookie has a new resident that becomes fast friends with Abby. I didn't care for the constant mentioning 'cop this and that' about Frank. Good story will reread.
After speed reading the first two books in this series I quickly started on the third. The elderly are being tormented by ghosts and people are going missing or dying. Can Abigail and Frank figure it out before it's too late? This was just as fun of a read as the first two. It's well paced, has interesting characters and is well written. If you like small town mysteries, this is a fun read. While it is the 3rd book in the series, you can also pick this one up solo!
I'm in the midst of my Masters degree, and I am inundated with dense academic text. I read this book as a break state and enjoyed the easy reading, the kookie characters, and crime stories not too belabored in details. The characters were home spun folk in a quaint small town and the story line was simple yet entertaining. I enjoy the townsfolk and the sequels of what's new in Spookie Town.
This is such a great, easy and creative series. i was hooked after the first page.
The characters were easy to fall in love with and follow, along with the story. the author made the mental visions so easy and vivid of the surroundings and the characters actions felt so real.
i would highly recommend this author and this series.
Although ghosts I really like the characters in this series, the crimes are predictable and somewhat pedestrian. They seem solved long before they should be. I'll continue with the series because I want to see how it plays out--I just wish there was a little bit more excitement and a few twists and turns.
This was the third book in her series about the little town of Spoiled and again I enjoyed the small town charachters. I love murder mysteries but it was refreshing to have bad things happen without brutal details or foul language. Can't wait to start on the next three booms in this series Kathryn, you go girl
Once again, I loved this series. The plot was thick with suspense and I just love the characters. I like the fact that the author allows Frank and Abigail to have moral integrity in there growing relationship. I am excited to read the next book in the series...
Wow! What a plot this book has! I really enjoyed each new development as the story matured. Each character was so interesting and developed a new perspective with each change of scene. Looking forward to the next book in the series.
It totally holds your focus to the end. The people are real and so many different interesting characters. Add an underlying love story. A wonderful fun book to read. You won't want to miss this one.the
Love this series. Small town people and gossip, mysteries, romance and crazy Myrtle ( who I donKt think is really crazy). I love that there is happiness mixed in. Love to curl up on the porch with this series.
I had a difficult time getting into this book but after the first few chapters I was hooked into the story just like I was with the first two books. I wasn’t disappointed at all in this book, even with my slow start to it.
Really enjoying this series. The minute I begin reading I’ve entered into a quaint world in which to live for a few hours. Can’t wait to read the next in the series!
