Love often appears where you least expect it—and sometimes, it brings more than you bargained for.
Arlo’s never bought into the idea that Alphas and Omegas are destined for each other. In his experience, Alphas are good for one-night stands and little else. But when he stumbles across Liam, the most alluring Alpha he’s ever met, he seriously considers breaking his one-night rule.
If only Arlo knew that Liam isn't just a handsome, charming fling—he's also the new head of one of the most powerful crime organizations in the city. And he’s convinced Arlo is his fated mate.
Liam’s proposition is simple: stay in his lavish penthouse, with every luxury at Arlo’s fingertips, so Liam can keep him safe. But Arlo’s never been one to tolerate a cage, no matter how opulent—even when his Omega instincts are screaming at him to stay.
Lusting for Power is a spicy contemporary M/M omegaverse romance featuring reluctant fated mates, a soft mafia boss, first heats together, a protective Alpha, and a stubborn Omega.
“I can’t promise you an easy life or even a safe one. But I swear that no matter what happens, I will always put you first. This time, I’m going to hold onto happiness with both hands—if that’s what you want.” ^ Page 246.
3.5✨
The men start as a one night stand until the next day when Liam's bodyguard kidnaps Arlo for his safety. Eventually there's drama and then they live happy ever after.
I enjoyed this one but I also feel like the characters made some stupid decisions.
I'd like to start by saying I'm aware Arlo was in an emotional state after his heat when Liam left to go to work. But for Arlo to decide to start a fire and run away because he suddenly no longer believes Liam's brother wants to hurt him, that was pretty stupid.
ALSO where did Maxine (the cat) go??
When Arlo ran away he took the cat with him to the pet friendly motel. That's the last we hear of her! I get it, he was kidnapped, then Liam was kidnapped. But after the hospital trip? Sex. Cat completely forgotten about.
I also think Liam is pretty stupid. Again, I understand alphas are possessive over their mates. But this mafia leader decides to take Arlo's place, doesn't tell any of his bodyguards and gets hurt? If Arlo hadn't remembered there were gulls nearby, Liam wouldn't have been found and end of story, literally.
Because this book is entirely in Arlo's POV, it's very lacking and a bit repetitive. He spends a few days in a penthouse (yes you read about each day), then he gets heat, runs away, the end.
Because there's nothing in Liam's POV, the mafia plot is too vague and there's nothing really going on.
And what's with Liam coming around for dinner then leaving again? Understandable if he's got these mysterious meetings and mafia work, but man just goes off the grid and we're supposed to be okay with it because it's Arlo's story.
I would've liked to know Liam's age though because when Arlo sees him he calls him older then immediately goes "oh he's actually only a few years older than my 28". That doesn't help me at all. (Personal preference I like to know my characters when reading)
A fun little omegaverse MM romance that I zoomed through. Things definitely moved very fast, so the story did feel rushed and like the stakes jumped to maximum danger literally overnight.
Liam and Arlo's behavior was intense at times, but also funny and fun. I loved that Arlo bought zillions of things for Maxine and made the guards assemble everything. Arlo is definitely a brat, but he's placed in an extreme situation that most of us would not thrive in.
As I'd expect from an A/B/O story, there's pheromones and breeding and fated mate vibes, and there are some definite hot moments between Liam and Arlo.
If you could take everything I love about classic omegaverse stories and put it into a single novel, it would be Lusting For Power.
Arlo Silva wants only one thing when it comes to Alphas: anything more than a one-night stand puts him at risk of being claimed and losing the life he's worked hard to build. When he spots Liam Carlisle in the club, he seems like the perfect Alpha to spend a few hours with.
Their one night spins out of control when Liam's mafia rivals threaten Arlo's safety. Confident that Arlo is his fated mate, Liam offers him his penthouse and his protection. But Arlo knows Alphas cannot be trusted, even if his Omega instincts are telling him to give in.
These two! Liam is a soft mafia boss and oh so dreamy. So while he did kinda (absolutely) kidnap Arlo, you could see from the first sushi dinner that he wanted to get to know him and do this right (once the immediate danger had passed). Arlo is sassy and smart, and holds his own against Liam. While he does make some choices that have readers yelling "oh no," it doesn't feel arbitrary because of his strong character development. Wynne does such an amazing job of slowly showing us who these two are through their actions and charming dinner conversations.
I love that Arlo is definitely on the reluctant side of this fated mates scenario. Throughout the story, we learn that while Omegas are now equal citizens, they still face systematic oppression and threats from Alphas who use claiming bites as a means of control. I am excited about the world Wynne has created, and I can't wait to read more!
--- I received an advance copy of this book from the author at no charge. This is my honest, voluntary review.
I finished this one expecting things to resolve nicely by the end, but nope.
I liked Liam at the beginning, but then he kidnaps Arlo, doesn't allow him to continue his freelance work or communicate with his clients he would not be able to get in touch with them for a while - risking Arlo's business, the one he fought very hard to obtain - then doesn't care about Arlo's cat or friends. I was baffled. From the initial interaction, he was cool as a cucumber, and while he and Arlo had a good sexual relationship, he didn't give the vibe that he would be a controlling alpha.
Arlo is worried about his business, his cat, his friend, his life overall, but I guess dressing nice and eating sushi is kinda enough for him to not push toooo hard. It's not until he has a mental breakdown that he tries to escape.
But when he escapes, shit goes south; that poor cat was the victim in this book. THE CAT IS THE ONLY VICTIM. The rest sucked; even that ending, I was like WTF IS THIS? This would have been a zero, but the world-building was kinda interesting. Is this a duology? Is that why the ending was shit and felt unfinished, because we are getting more in another book?
Argh, I'm still thinking about that poor cat and Arlo's business.

This was a new author to me but I was drawn by the book's premise, I was so glad that I did. I really enjoyed this. Omega verse is still relatively new to me but I have delving a little more into it and this really satiated my need to read more.
Arlo and Liam are great, I love their chemistry and banter. Arlo is so sassy and not willing to bow down to any alpha, I love how he keeps Liam on his toes. And Liam, my god man...kidnapping the man you just slept with, a conversation could have been easier. As we find out Liam has a mafia background and there is current infighting in the family and he fears Arlo will get caught in the crossfire. He is a bit of an idiot for his actions but they were genuinely done in care.
This has great plot development, high level of spice and some action. I am really looking forward to seeing what comes next!
This story is a mafia love story with an omegaverse twist. It follows what appears to be a relatively standard structure where a man meets somebody at a club who is very wealthy and eventually realizes that the person that he's met and started socializing with is high-ranked in the mafia. As seems to be common in this trope, the main character then has to go into hiding with the mafia person so rival gangs don't harm him.
What makes it different is: 1. This is an Omega verse story, which adds interesting dynamics to that. 2. The main character is extremely self-directed and very much not on board with having an alpha taking over his life, no matter how wealthy he is, which is definitely something I appreciated.
I thought the finale veered a bit too far into animalistic aspects of Alpha and Omega that I'm really not all that about, but overall, the book was enjoyable. 4 stars.
A new to me author and now I'm very very excited to see what comes next!
This one starts off with a bang (literally) and it just continues to heat up as Liam kidnaps...I mean protects Arlo! I love them together. Arlo is someone who is trying so hard to always be tough and standoffish. And he is so very tough, but I love that Liam is so protective and sweet that Arlos is able to let down some walls and truly just be and it's so lovely. I love a book where it almost all takes place in one room so we truly get to see the MCs fall for each other and winters does that so well here. Plus reluctant mates? Yes, please, always sign me up for that.
2.5 stars but I like to round up, even though GR now gives the option of using half stars. Anyway, this was insta lust and never really got beyond that. 90%+ into the book and Arlo is still calling Liam a stranger. They never actually have a conversation about anything meaningful, like why Arlo wants and needs his independence. But I still enjoyed the writing and had fun with this. Side note - I was so stressed about Arlo's business - disappearing for days was going to irreparably ruin his professional reputation.
Mafia romances are not my usual jam but this one had me hooked from page one. Loved the blend of mafia and omegaverse. I was so engaged with the plot and while it’s definitely spicy it’s not overwhelmingly erotic like omegaverse can sometimes be. And excuse me, what happened to Maxine?! lol. And where’s the rest??? I guess this is in fact book 1. Very HFN ending. Can’t wait for more.
