Burned-by-love architect Hunter McKay came home to Phoenix to open her own firm, not rekindle her fleeting high school romance with playboy Tyson Steele. But when she runs into the sexy surgeon at a nightclub—and he unleashes that legendary Steele charm—Hunter fears she's headed straight for heartbreak once again.
Tyson hasn't forgotten the one who got away. A weeklong fling should be just enough to get the sultry beauty out of his system for good, even if he has to let Hunter set the ground rules. But the rules are suddenly changing for the no-strings bachelor. Can Tyson convince this sensual woman that he's the real deal—that they deserve a second chance together?

I'm rating 'Possessed by Passion' 3 stars for all the steamy sex scenes. If you want lots of hot steamy gratuitous sex in your reading, then this book is for you.
Hunter McKay is an architect and she's been asked by Dr. Tyson Steele to build a 6 room home for him and his brothers (if they ever get kicked out by their wives). It's only a ruse so he can seduce her. Tyson is a playboy and everyone knows it. He has no intentions of commitment or marriage. Hunter, in her youth, never gave him any play. Unfortunately, after college Hunter married a man who wasn't kind and she too is put off by marriage and commitment.
The whole of this story is Tyson's obsessive sexual predator behavior for Hunter. He claims to be a man possessed by passion. It's said over and over at the end of the book. After a month Hunter is in love (of course she is), but is wary that Tyson only sees her as a play thing and nothing more.
I've enjoyed previous books about the Steele Family. Mrs. Jackson usually does the family dynamic quite well and is what compels me to continue reading her many series.
I was provided the eArc via Netgalley by the Publisher.
That arrogant fine Dr. Tyson Steele got snatched by passion. Love prevails every time. I couldn't put this book down. Brenda Jackson turned it out again. Loved it. We down to two left for the Bad News Steele Brothers. hahahaha.. can't wait!
Although I liked the story, Tyson was a bit too arrogant in the beginning. I was also disappointed that Hunter didn't make him work just a little bit harder for her.
I have read most of Brenda Jackson's books, but this one was just ok. I would probably give it a 2.5. She has other books that I have enjoyed much more and even re-read.
It was really tiresome to continue to hear about the "Bad News" Steele Men who are basically manwhores. The book doesn't lack for sex. Tyson is a master. It was like he did all the giving trying to prove his prowess, or confirm his reputation, and Hunter was just in the receiving end. Not that it is terrible, I just never felt the sense of them coming together on any level but a sexual one. It felt very shallow somehow.. Then, there is the successful woman who doesn't believe a Steele man could possibly be interested in her, could he? The whole "these men are gods, and the women who tame them" theme is a bit boring. I skimmed through a bit of this book. The one redeeming quality is when Tyson finally decides he truly loved Hunter. The book begins to get more interesting and less repetitive. BUT, this doesn't occur until almost the end of the book.
Not a bad read, but I hope, other Steele Men let their genuine feelings be known earlier in the book rather than let the woman feel as though she is no more than his next conquest.
Good book. Hunter returned to Phoenix after she divorced her cheating husband. She's opened her own architectural firm and is focused on getting it up and running. While at a nightclub with her two best friends, she runs into playboy Tyson Steele who makes it clear that he wants her.
Hunter and Tyson have a history. He was as big a player in high school as he is now and had a reputation with the school's girls. When he zeroed in on Hunter, she held out for a relationship or nothing - and Tyson got nothing. He still remembers Hunter as the one who got away and is determined to remedy the situation.
I enjoyed watching the relationship develop between Tyson and Hunter. I will say that Tyson irritated me at the beginning. He is so arrogant and cocky about his appeal to women that he can't imagine anyone turning him down. He is honest about his intention to seduce her and get her out of his system before moving on to the next conquest. Hunter is not impressed. She's attracted to him but has no intention of getting involved with another man who avoids commitment. Yet, after a while, she considers giving in and using Tyson the way he plans to use her - just a fling.
I had to laugh to see Tyson the playboy hoist on his own petard. Instead of a "one and done" night to get Hunter out of his system, he can't stop thinking about her and wanting her. This freaks him out because it has never happened to him before. He knows he should walk away but proposes a weeklong fling instead. I cheered at Hunter's response. She has enjoyed her time with Tyson. His care and attention have gone a long way toward restoring her sense of self as a woman. Her ex blamed his cheating on her, claiming she wasn't enough for him, but her time with Tyson brings out her passionate side. She tells Tyson she'll go along with his plan but with certain conditions - they must do things outside the bedroom.
Tyson has never "dated" the women he slept with but found himself more than willing to indulge Hunter's demands. Watching him get into movie nights, dinner and dancing dates, and other ordinary pursuits was fun. He also loses all interest in chasing other women. He gets a lot of teasing from his brothers, even the married ones, and some knowing looks from his brother Eli. I loved Tyson's "aha" moment when he realized he was in love with Hunter.
Hunter knew she was risking heartbreak when she explained her conditions to Tyson, but she had to try. I loved seeing her confidence in herself grow, though there was still a part that kept her from believing Tyson could change. There was a bumpy spot where Hunter's jealousy got the better of her and created a bit of a misunderstanding between them. I ached for her as she thought Tyson was ready to break things off.
The ending was sweet with a side helping of spice. I loved how Tyson decided to show Hunter how he felt. It may have been a tad too subtle at first, but the more he talked, the more Hunter began to hope. Tyson's reputation made her wariness understandable, but that made the truth so much sweeter. The epilogue was great as the fourth Bad News Steele bit the dust, leaving only two more for their mother to focus on.
Tyson Steele was getting another chance with the one woman that let him go. She was not going to be another notch on any ones bed post. Hunter McKay has returned home to Phoenix and the chance to make her life something more than it has been. She runs in to Tyson one night and he tells her in no uncertain terms what he wants to do to her. He speaks as if it is a forgone conclusion. Hunter again decides to walk away. She has to come to the understanding that she too can get a little something out of what Tyson is offering. Tyson not deterred decides to stay in pursuit of Hunter. But one night things change and we find that the prey and hunter may have changed roles. They find that over some time they have become friends and lovers.
I used to read Brenda Jackson’s book when I was in high school and had no business reading such so I decided to revisit as an adult. I’m not really a fan of romance novels anymore because they are usually wildly unrealistic but the steamy scenes usually make up for it. I was actually entertained the entire time. I would’ve loved a little bit more drama and I wish Hunter would’ve made Tyson work just a bit harder, make his cocky ass beg sis! Tyson proposing to Hunter approximately 1 month after getting reconnected was...wild. I was not expecting it go that far that fast. All in all, if you’re looking for a good quick read with steamy scenes, read this!
"She was the lone person in the 'tried and failed' column. He intended to remedy that."
FINAL DECISION: The pleasant and competent shorter length contemporary story, POSSESSED BY PASSION is elevated by the strong relationship between the hero and heroine.
THE STORY: Tyson Steele and Hunter McKay had a high school almost romance 18 years ago. He only wanted sex and she demanded a relationship. When he wouldn't give that to her, she dumped him. She has always been the only one to get away. Now almost two decades later, Tyson is a surgeon when Hunter returns to their hometown. Hunter is trying to rebuild her life and career as an architect after her divorce. Tyson decides to rectify the lost opportunity from years ago and the ultimately agree to a no commitment fling.
OPINION: This book was a short and fast read. There is a great sense of irony in the book as the first time Tyson and Hunter tried to have a relationship, Tyson was only interested in sex but Hunter wanted more. Two decades later, Tyson begins to find himself wanting more while Hunter wants to limit their relationship to sex.
Both Tyson and Hunter are appealing characters who are likeable. Tyson is a forceful man who plays the field but finds himself unable to turn away from Hunter. Tyson's journey is finding that there is a woman who is worth committing to. Hunter's journey is learning to trust herself and someone else again and believe in love and commitment again.
This is one of those books that I enjoyed reading one time. I would even be interested in reading the connected books.
WORTH MENTIONING: This is a second chance at love story.
CONNECTED BOOKS: POSSESSED BY PASSION is part of the Steele Family series. I haven't read any of the other books in the series but didn't feel that I needed any other information.
STAR RATING: I give this book 3 stars.
NOTE: I received an ARC of this book via Netgalley in order to provide a review. I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions contained herein are my own.
Dr. Tyson Steele, one of the 3 single brothers left of the Bad News Steeles of Phoenix. Tyson was not interested in anything beyond a one night stand. He let it be known to the women who he would choose, don't get any ideas, no long term and when its done its done. Tyson was enjoying his life as a top surgeon, a single man with no intentions of ever marrying. And then Hunter McKay walks in, the one who got away.
Hunter McKay, a divorcee and architect who has moved back home to Phoenix and has opened up her own firm. Hunter is not interested in dating, all she is concerned about is getting her business off of the ground. After a bitter divorce and walking away with half of the settlement, starting over in where she grew up is perfect. A night out with her two best friends is the cherry on top. Until her eyes collide with the Green eyes of Tyson, the one she let go.
In Tyson's mind this is a chance to finally put to rest of the one who got away 18 years ago. In Hunter's mind this is a chance to feel like a woman who has completely and thoroughly made love to. But as we all know oftentimes things don't necessarily go the way we have envisioned, they tend to go left, with doors of passion being thrown wide open, completely catching the other off guard.
Tyson and Hunter fight the feelings and passions for each other. Tyson is determined to remain a forever bachelor and Hunter refuses to ever marry again. But the heart wants what the heart wants and sometimes we ignore it and go on about our merry way. Tyson and Hunter will be battle each other and the question is, who will come out the winner of keeping things the way they are now in their lives?
Another stellar story by author Brenda Jackson, who know just how to weave a tale and keep you 1-Clicking each time she releases a new book.
My View: This story is all about how Hunter and Tyson navigated around each other until they became and unofficial couple. We see most of the courting, but then, the actual dating happened off page. We didn't get to see their relationship moving forward. The reader is only told about all what they did together.
I enjoyed this story, but it got on my nerves in some areas. There was a lot of inner dialogue, plus, the phrased "possessed by passion" was overused. The sex scenes were done well, but some of the exchanges between the MCs felt forced. And their HEA was rushed and cliché.
Overall, it was an easy romance to read on a spring day.
The nucleus of any Brenda Jackson story is the importance of family. Perhaps that is why I am in love with her characters so much. Knowing when facing the unknown that someone has your back is a great feeling to have. That is what attracts me about the Westmoreland and Steele clans. With a wide range of personalities, careers and family members there is always something new to discover and someone new to meet in these wonderful series.
I received an ARC of Possessed by Passion via NetGalley and Harlequin in exchange for my honest opinion. Tyson Steele and Hunter McKay's story is featured in this novel. Hunter is as opinionated as Tyson is arrogant. Mix these two personalities and you get a sensational story that is sensual, explosive and entertaining. I thought the characters were well matched in ego and stubbornness but found that the chemistry between the two came across a little forced in the beginning.
This is a typical romance book story line. I tried to like it but it was just okay. I used to enjoy these types of books but over the years they all have the same basic story line….rich, hot, arrogant male that will never marry meets beautiful independent woman who has been hurt or is an innocent, then they fall in love. There is a lot of repeated inner dialog that became really annoying and I felt took away from the story. It would have been nice to have more details about the relationship developing instead of repeated inner dialog that did not add to the story. I thought the term "possessed by passion" was really overused. The story goes from a one night stand to a type of “friends with benefits” to them becoming an unofficial couple to them falling in love all in the span of a short story. Overall I found it cliché and the same ole same ole. I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway.
OMG...each Bad News Steele story gets better and better...one by one these brothers are dropping like flies...four down and two to go...Tyson and Hunter's seduction of each other was HOT HOT HOT...the chemistry between them was FIERY...it was even obvious to Hunter's mother, after spending a very brief amount of time in their presence...BTW, Hunter's mother (in that small scene) was FUNNY as all get out...lol...couldn't put this book down...can't wait to see who falls in love next...and I hope we don't have to wait too long...lol
This story was so thoroughly satisfying and complete. It lacked nothing. It started and ended extremely well, with not one dull moment. I really liked the heat that Hunter and Tyson shared. They could not deny their chemistry. It was amusing to see them try to fight for control. In the end, love conquered both of them
Rating: 4.5/5 Recommend: Yes Audience: Adult Status: Romance Chemistry/Intensity: Yes Conflict/Drama: No Family Dysfunction: No HEA: Yes Series Potential: Yes
This was an okay read it started out slow, but then it got interesting . Tyson was straight forward with Hunter from the beginning. He told her exactly what he wanted. She only wanted to seduce him because she did not want him to seduce her. Carter had took her thru a lot. He dogged her out and expected her to stay with him regardless.... Tyson showed Hunter that their are some good men out here and fell in love with her also. I was glad they hooked up and got married. Good love story.....
3.5 stars. The chemistry felt forced in the beginning and the hero's arrogance really turned me off, but then somewhere in the middle, the sparks really flew and the chemistry was fantastic. The ending wasn't bad, just felt a bit abrupt.
I loved the passion between the two characters. I love the Steele men, can't wait for the next Steele book. Hopefully it won't be a long wait like the others.
Really didn't keep my attention. Too repetitive and too much filler. The other Steele books were much better. Hope other Steele story have better story line.
A nice dreamy sexy romance 😍 and the writing was so smooth. Think sweet but with sex. Plenty of sexy. It a story about the one who away in high school and a second chance romance.
I didn't like the hero Tyson and thought he was pushy and aggressive and at times was borderline harassing. At times, like a oversexed teenager. I understand he was supposed to be cocky and arrogant but to me that just seemed desperate, with f%$k boys moves. I guess that's what we call womanisers today. However Ms Jackson is one of the best romance writers so she pulls it off.
However Hunter the heroine more than made up for this part, especially when she took control of the situation.
And the delicious writing, so it’s worth a read, just ignore the idiot oversexed hero in the beginning. It gets better.
After being burned by love from an unfaithful husband architect Hunter McKay has no desire to in engage in another relationship. But after returning home to Phoenix to open her own firm and running into her old high school sweetheart Tyson Steele she starts rethinking her thoughts.

But after spending an unforgettable night with Hunter one night is not enough. He feels that if Hunter will spend a week with him that will get her out of his system.
