World Crash

Rate this book
Science fiction novella: easy read for a lazy afternoon or a day at the beach

Sarah (8th grade) wakes from a coma to find a transformed dystopia world in which most computers have crashed; electricity is off; telephone systems have failed; bankcards don’t work; and stores are running out of food. Then extraterrestrial aliens arrive who claim to be the Anunnaki, ancient Sumerian deities. They say that they have come in peace, but when people resist their demands, the space pirates drop kinetic weapons from their spaceship fleet and raid gold depositories around the world to seize gold bullion.

Sarah uses her Raspberry Pi kit computer to help counter the alien’s hack attack. She discovers their computer coding system and the basis of their light-speech.

This science fiction novella is a Hi / Lo (high interest and low reading difficulty) book designed to encourage reluctant teen readers. It makes a great present for teenagers, but first read it yourself, and then discuss chapters with the young adult as they read the book.

I got this free from Goodreads First Read

I know nothing about coding for computers so that part was a little over my head at the very beginning of the book. The story was exciting and kept my interest wondering if they would figure out how to stop the aliens and figure out the code for the aliens computers in order to stop the attacks. The aliens get caught in their own game by computer 'geeks' who then bring the aliens to their knees! This was very interesting and may make you hope that nothing like this does ever happen in the future.

I received this book as a Goodreads give-away. World Crash is a real good quick read. It is great for those computer geeks out there. Sarah is an eighth grader who wakes up. In a coma to find her world has turned upside down. The world wide Internet has crashed and sense most things run by computer every thing is down. There is no electricity, no gas, no food coming in. However Sarah is a computer geek and has her own Raspberry Pi kit. Sitting in the hospital bored she starts checking things out. She uses her decoding skills to help the computer geeks counter. The world attack.. This is a great read.

This was a fun book aimed at middle grade readers. The main character is a 12 year old girl who becomes a very important help to the government when the earth is attacked by extraterrestrials.
The girl is kind of a loner, and it is nice that she is able to feel important and contribute in such a great way.

* I received this book free as a part of Goodreads Giveaways promotions.

I did find this book very, very easy reading.
I think it was sometimes too easy for teens.
The main character was able to fix too many things by herself and I found that to be very unbelievable.
I did not like the fact that it is not a stand alone book and ended as a "to be continued." I think all books even as a part of a series should be able to be read as a stand alone book.
