David's Debt

Rate this book
He came to collect. His final payment was murder.

A smooth-talking salesman rolls into the small coastal town of Weyport with a coded list of debts and a long memory. Nobody gives him a second thought.

Until the man turns up dead in a motel room.

At first glance it looks like a heart that simply gave out.

Then Sheriff Angus Reid hears the anonymous call that reported the body.

And everything changes—he knows her voice.

And the harder Angus pushes for answers, the more he realizes that this stranger didn’t come to Weyport by accident.

Then a prominent member of the community vanishes without a trace, leaving Angus with a murder, a missing person, and the growing fear that the two cases are connected.

One buried sin. One killer who will do anything to keep it in the ground. One sheriff forced to decide how far he'll chase the truth when every road leads back to someone he cannot bear to suspect.

As Angus races against the clock to solve the mystery, he realizes the heaviest debt in Weyport was never that of the corpse found in a lonely motel room, or of the missing man in their seaside town, but the one he's been running from himself.

David's Debt is Book 9 in the bestselling Angus Reid Mysteries—a small-town Christian mystery thriller series set on the rugged coast of Maine, filled with buried secrets, clean suspense, faith-tested characters, and the kind of gasp-out-loud twist that keeps readers up long past midnight.

Perfect for readers who love clean, character-driven whodunits, redemptive Christian fiction, coastal mysteries, and small-town suspense where old secrets have deadly consequences.

Every Angus Reid mystery features a complete case and can be read as a standalone, while readers following Angus’s personal journey will find the continuing story woven throughout the series extra enjoyable.

Urcelia Teixeira is an award-winning author of gripping Christian Mystery Thrillers.

You will enjoy her books if you like twisty mysteries tinged with clean action, page-turning suspense, and deep-rooted biblical truths.
All her books are free from profanity and unnecessary sexually suggestive scenes.

She made her writing debut in December 2017, kicking off her newly discovered author journey with her fast-paced archaeological adventure thriller novels that readers have described as ‘Indiana Jones meets Lara Croft with a twist of Bourne.’

But, five novels in, and nearly eighteen months later, she had a spiritual awakening, and she wrote the sixth and final book in her Alex Hunt Adventure Thriller series. She now fondly refers to The Caiaphas Code as her redemption book, her statement of faith.

And although this series has reached multiple Amazon Bestseller lists, she took the bold step of following her true calling and switched to writing what naturally flows from her heart and soul: Christian Suspense.

A committed Christian for nearly twenty years, she now lives by the following mantra:

“I used to be just a writer. Now, I am a writer with a purpose!”

A stranger with a dark past has come to Sheriff Angus Reid’s town of Weyport, a small coastal town in New England. The first few chapters whet the reader’s appetite as this newcomer’s plan is to scam and also collect a debt he has waited many years to collect. Then he turns up dead. Who is he? Why is he in Weyport? Who owes him and why?

Angus and his deputy, Miguel, do their excellent police work, slowly piecing together gathered information. Also, Angus’ keen sense of reading people enhances the surprise twist in the book. I was surprised! (Great job, Urcelia!) The ending brought about another twist, which was very satisfying.

This book addresses secrets. Secrets that could undo a person’s life. As each person struggles with the secrets, the reader learns a lot about the troubled heart and how the person will move forward. And, it takes a while for these people to shed light on the truth.

This is my favorite book of the Angus Reid series. Surprises. Twists. I sat in my comfy reading chair and read the whole book one afternoon. A true page turner.

I appreciate the cleanness of Urcelia’s books. No swearing. No sex. No graphic violence. I love that God is always part of every book. Her books are inspirational and have great redemptive endings. Urcelia writes a novel everyone can enjoy – from teen to grandparent.

Even though David’s Debt is book 9 of Urcelia Teixeira’s Angus Reid book series. (I suggest you read Urcelia’s prequel, Little Boy Lost, which lays the foundation for Angus and the town he is now protecting.) Please note you can enjoy David’s Debt without reading the earlier books in the series as they are all stand-alone books.

You cannot ask forgiveness for something you will not name. You want to pray, but that means you will have to deal with that unsaid thing.

A stranger in town, seemingly loitering, but is he? Once again the author slowly reels the reader in, making it harder and harder to figure out who the questionable character is. An anonymous 911 call, a missing person, a notebook that seems to make no sense and more leave Sheriff Angus and his deputy, Miguel searching for answers. Nothing seems to add up until
someone finally comes forward with the truth. Will the debt ever get paid?

A copy was received through Purpose Bound Press and BookFunnel. These impressions are my own and were in no way solicited.

Russell Calder wants to extort money from Murphy Delaney and it all goes wrong

Sheriff Reid is caught in a dilemma while working this latest case. Things just aren’t adding up and he must face things he does not want to because it is looking like Murphy Delaney his love interest is involved.

There are so many layers with twists and turns as this story unfolds that it keeps you turning pages as you try to keep up with all that is happening.

This story is very well written and keeps you in suspense as to who did what to whom, and little by little you are lead down the path that Angus must follow to find the guilty person.

This series just gets better with each book.

I think you will really enjoy this book, I know I did!!

One of the things I love about Urcelia Teixeira's books is that they stay with you long after you close the back cover. David's Debt is definitely no exception! While the plot will keep you turning pages long into the night, if you don't ponder the phrase, "and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors," then you have missed the message of the book. I might not ever recite the Lord's Prayer again without properly considering what this phrase means.

Angus and the gang from Weyport are back in book 9 and what a page turner.

What starts out as a slow burn to reel (suck) you in, by the time you get a few chapters in, you realise you don't want to (or can't) put the book down.

Each chapter keeps feeding you little tidbits, keeping you invested, mesmerised and wanting more (a need to know now).

I was not expecting some of the curveballs Angus has to deal with and there were a few spots that had me guessing what was going to happen next, which is what I love about this series. Everything is kept secret until the last possible moment and then boom 💥 (gotcha)

I can't wait to read Angus's next mystery case as each new story is better than it's predecessor.

I have always loved this series- and this one did not disappoint in terms of the development of the story, gripping me with some unexpected turns, and provoking me to think in new ways. I will say as a christian there was one scene where she did not include the gospel message, and I was saddened because I felt like it missed the chance to say hey, this is WHY we believe what we believe -- BUT _- I get that as believer's when we talk to other believers we don't always reiterate in conversation - but maybe we should. So it was authentic - and in someways maybe more authentic than what I am accustomed to reading - because I was expecting her to go a certain direction, and she did not..... I can't decide how I feel on that!! I love the characters that they are REAL - not perfect, not predictable, not neat - their lives and thoughts are messy, just like humans truly are. I enjoy the series, and hope one day they. make a TV series on them.

David Krane's serene family life is about to be disrupted by a stranger in town. Someone from his past finds him and is determined to make him pay a heavy price to keep his secret. Apart from David there are others like Murphy who have secrets and feel threatened. Then the stranger is found dead and Angus Reid has his hunches. Who made an anonymous call from the victim's phone to the police? Why was there a flaw in the autopsy report?  A suspense filled thriller which is intense as feelings of doubt, fear and rash decisions are highlighted. One lesson to be learned is that pride should not get in the way of forgiveness and it's always better to come clean and make atonement instead of running away from your past hoping it will stay hidden

Urcelia does it again! A suspenseful who done it with all the twists and turns, can’t put it
down that we have come to expect. This one however, hits you differently and challenges you to look inward at what you would do in the characters place. A book about love, redemption, and forgiveness. It made me contemplate, like Angus, forgive me of my debts as I forgive my debtors. A lot of soul searching. An amazing read!
