Secession: How Vermont and All the Other States Can Save Themselves from the Empire

Rate this book
“Secession may seem like an outlandish idea at first, but when considered forthrightly and un-prejudicially it becomes a powerful alternative to other kinds of political action. Thomas Naylor has here charted a brave and inspiring course for any American interested in practical, useful, thoroughgoing social and political change in America.”—from the introduction by Kirkpatrick Sale, author of Rebels Against the Future Secession, the growing and evolving means to fundamentally change our national government, has been the recent subject of major articles in The New York Times , The Washington Post , and The O’Reilly Factor . Thomas H. Naylor , professor emeritus of Duke University and co-author of Affluenza and The Search for Meaning , is founder and chair of the Second Vermont Republic, the foremost secessionist organization in the country.

Naylor is a fucking dumbass. I am all about Vermont secession, just not under his "2nd Vermont Republic" banner. After reading this, I think all there should be a "Vermont out of the US" position. the 9/11 conspiracy stuff was utterly irrelevant. The incredibly revealing 'error' of his Tower of Babel analogy, where he somehow manages to confuse ALL MANKIND (which is the obvious narrative of the story) with a group of "israelites" is too patently bigotted to rebut. AND the book is some 100 pages shy of how long Amazon says it was supposed to be. 2ndVR, find yourselves another country to be part of.

This book makes me want to learn more about secession and to move to Vermont. What an amazing state!

Naylor's writing is all over the place - not an easy book to get through. The good news - it's short.

In doing a brief background check on Naylor, I find his alleged ties to racist secessionists deeply disturbing. I must find out more.

Great book, an eye opener for the un or misinformed. A primer for states rights with numbers and proof that it would work to secede from the republic. Highly recommended.

I like the general idea more than the book.
