They say nothing bad ever happens in quaint Askergan County. To Cody Lawrence it sounds like the perfect place for a family winter getaway. But everything 'they' say about Askergan is wrong... dead wrong.
For the first time on record, a blizzard is blowing over Askergan—a storm so powerful that it knocks out a local power line, trapping his family inside with no heat and no electricity.
Cody believes all he has to do is to protect his wife and daughters from frostbite. But when he hears a haunting voice in the blizzard urging him into the storm, he realizes that the stakes are much greater than frozen fingers and toes. Something in the driving snow wont be content until Cody heeds its call and delivers his entire family, presenting the gift of their smooth, supple skin...
If emotionally flawed characters, crisp dialogue, and action-driven plots turn your crank, then you will enjoy Logan’s psychological exploration of how guilt and remorse shape decisions in the face of unspeakable horror.

True story: I used to cut up bodies. No, not for fun, you sickos–for work. After reaching the age of majority and fleeing the clutches of an overprotective mother, I went to university like a good boy.
More than a decade later and an alphabet soup of letters after my name, I found myself looking down the double-chamber of a microscope at an eyeball. Feeling ironically introspective, I decided that it was time for a change.
After seventy plus novels and more than a million copies sold, I’ve found my true calling, one that also includes a plethora of letters. Hopefully you see something in my catalog that you like, something to feast your eyes on.
I also have two spooky podcasts that are appropriate for ALL ages, so long as you like to be scared: P.T. Logan's Five Minutes of Terror and Camp Fear. Both are FREE and available on all podcast platforms. For MATURE audiences, I've created two fiction podcasts, Nightmare Residue and Bad Priest.

In Askergan County, in northeastern Vermont, a winter blizzard blows into town. Cutting insiders out, and outsiders in, a horrific evil is released into the weather.
Cody Lawrence is visiting his family, with his wife and children, when he begins to suspect that something is wrong. The weather is wrong.
He begins to feel trapped. He feels the need to leave. Something is happening. Something is calling to him.
No power. No cellular service. No unburied cars. Going out is dangerous, but everybody wants to do it.
My last book of 2016 was a freebie from Amazon which sounded like a Stephen King novel. It sounded like the perfect winter read, but in the end, left me warm nor cold.
An unhappy group of people come together to celebrate Christmas, when, unfortunately a blizzard makes sure they are all trapped. At the same time everyone seems to be called by a dark spirit who asks them to come, come, come.
Mwah, I don't know it for this novel. It was really not my style, so maybe other people will enjoy it a lot better than I did. There was a lot of repetition (after a while I was almost going insane myself if there would be 'come' one more time). The story doesn't provide anything new. I should probably have chosen a better book to end the year with.
Skin had the start of what could truly have been an epic tale. Unfortunately as the story progresses, it also slows down to what felt like a perpetual crawl as we move towards its eventual conclusion.
I appreciate a lot of what Patrick Logan tried to capture here in the various POVs explored, all trapped in Askergan County. There are a lot of tense scenes and some great character moments interwoven throughout the story. What didn't work for me was that in jumping heads, rather than furthering the plot, we just halted momentum, often repeating information or examining what we've already seen, only through someone else's perspective. I felt the entire novel could have been a single plot point on a much larger (and rewarding) landscape.
I still enjoyed this one even if it was a chore at times to get through, though my journey in the "Insatiable" Series is at it's close.
I would definitely recommend this to any horror fan. Very vivid writing, great character work and a sharp concept. It reminded me of an updated twist on the blob or any of the old horror movies. Expect a turbulent, violent ride. My only complaint is with editing. There are a good number of typos, but the story and the quality of writing was definitely worth it!
I'm sorry to say but this didn't really seem like horror to me. I just couldn't take the monster seriously. It's just seemed like a rather naughty rolly polly pudding to me. Another annoying thing was most of the people in this book spent a whole lotta time either vomiting or crying. Just not a book I enjoyed.
Very interesting read. I have read many sci-fi and horror books but have never come across a monster like this. I also like that there was no characters without flaws, made them more interesting. I won't spoil the ending, you have to read for yourself.
A great horror read with an engaging plot, good characters and a fairly high pace. Well recommended to anyone who like early Stephen King or Cliver Barker.
This story is far too similar to Stephen King's "Desperation." The main difference is that this author is no Stephen King. The story is very predictable. The constant attempt to gross out the reader with references to smells, bile, and constant vomiting are almost comical. With respect to other readers I won't post anything that might be considered a spoiler, but I'll just say that if you're going to read this one, lower your expectations. If you're a King fan, I'd highly recommend just picking up a King novel instead.
This book is totally creepy just as a horror novel should be. Dysfunctional family meets ghoulish creature and nightmares ensue. This story might be difficult for the sensitive, but a fast-paced nerve-wracking read.
I love reading horror leading up to Halloween, and this year I started my Halloween reading with Skin. It did not disappoint.
The scares start on page one with the dread slowly building through the rest of the book until you get to the climax when all hell breaks loose.
It made me second-guess reading right before bed more than once, and there were even a few unexpected laughs.
If you want to up the creep factor, make sure you read this one in the dead of winter. It made me glad I don't live in Michigan anymore. I don't think I'd make it through a big snowstorm without thinking of this book.
This was a chilling type of horror and was pretty awesome. The plot was mysteriously interesting and the characters were troubled in one way or another making this a considerably intense journey into the horror that is to come. The author tells a very vivid tale and doesn't hold back (which I love). I'd definitely recommend this book. :)
This is the first book I have read by Patrick Logan and so far so good. I was looking for a solid horror novel that was set in frigid winter conditions, and this one was a perfect read during the subzero temps to start the new year! It was a really fast read and well-written. I am excited to see what he has to offer in the second book of the series.
This is the first time I’ve read something by this author. I must say, I’m very impressed. I can’t wait to get started on the next book. Hopefully, the next one will draw me in just as this one did. 😏
Got through 65 pages (20%) and so far nothing has happened, maybe there is something further down the line but there was nothing that at that point that compelled me to continue.
This was okay...monster story about creature that eats people but discards the skin..Happens during a snowstorm. Story was a quick read..Two problems, most of the characters were unlikeable, you didn't hate them, but you really didn't care if they survived or not, and you really couldn't sympathize with them. The characters need to be more developed, so you relate more to them. The only character I liked survived though, so that was good. Second problem, way to much Junior High appreciation for bodily fluids. I don't think I read any book where people threw up, urinated or crapped themselves so often it was unbelievable. This didn't add to the fear factor, because it happened so often I don't think it would be even possible. Other than that the story was a good one, always like stories that happen in winter,,,never liked this season anyway....#HateSnow.
I downloaded this book based on reviews comparing it to Clive Barker and Stephen King and it promised lots of gore.
I have to say I was slightly disappointed as I found the book to be tamer than I was expecting. However. It was by no means a bad read. It was a very slow starter which spent a lot of time building the characters. It still maintained a tense atmosphere throughout however, building to the climax and the last third of the book was worth the slog through. It was very well written and I think I will be continuing with the trilogy. All in all a good but slow read that doesn't quite promise the blood soaked massacre that the other reviews suggest
Poorly executed and unnecessarily padded story that could have been shorter and better.
The book's opening chapters, premise, and diverse cast of characters drew me in quickly.
However the writing style unfortunately grated. Repetition of dialogue, scenes, and set up through the different characters hurt the pace of the book. A heavy handed use of sentence extending punctuation also began distracting me, rather than award me a smooth narrative. This could have been whittled down to a shorter and, as a result, more impactful story had the prose and replay of scenes and dialogue been tidied up.
This story dragged on to one climactic moment. Characters weren't anyone you really cared about. I finished the book because I always do. I am not the least bit interested in reading any of the other books in this series.
It took way too long to get to the point. Too many characters and no real reason to care about any of them. It was not mildly frightening and seemed to be more of an excuse for the various characters to vomit...repeatedly.
Maybe it was just me, the cold, the snow or the plot but I lost interest shortly before finishing this book. It was one I could put down and not hurry to pick up again. Just not for me.
