Seven bodies. One cursed shore. A truth that won't stay buried.
When troubled journalist Arch Sampson arrives in the remote town of Spotswood, he's chasing more than a story—he’s chasing redemption. The locals blame the string of beachside deaths on bad luck, but whispers of ancient rituals, vanishing widows, and a sea goddess named Leaumiah suggest something older and far more sinister is at play.
As Arch digs deeper, drawn to the enigmatic Nell and haunted by his own dark inheritance, he uncovers a legacy of sacrifice that may demand his own life.
I received an advanced reader copy of this book from the publisher for an honest review.
Wow what a debut from T. A. Lonsdale. A gripping book that is hard to put down. An unsettling and suspenseful novel that will have you questioning everything.
Leaumiah is one of those books you pick up for a chapter and look up from hours later. It's an easy, absorbing read, and the suspense builds right to the final pages. I kept changing my mind about where the story was heading and still didn't see the ending coming.
Arch is a wonderful protagonist. His curiosity drives the story forward, and his need to make up for his past make him easy to root for. He's flawed in a very human way, which made me care about every choice he made.
The setting is another highlight. The ocean and the coast are described so vividly you can almost hear the waves and feel the salt air, and the scenery adds to the tension as much as the plot does.
If you enjoy suspense with a relatable lead and a strong sense of place, Leaumiah is well worth your time.
An absolute page-turner! I flew through Leaumiah in just two nights—pacing and suspense are top-notch. T. A. Lonsdale delivers a coastal Gothic mystery packed with folk horror elements and isolated dread. If you love eerie settings and stories reminiscent of The Wicker Man, definitely add this one to your reading list!
Lonsdale's debut novel rewards the readers who wade through the waves of suspense - its unique atmosphere and descriptive charm make it an easy and addictive read.
