Look, I like big books, but even in books when it gets too "wordy" and takes too long to get to the point I am bored. Constantine's biggest problem in these first two comics is that it's just way too much explanation. Then two panels of action. Then more explanation. I LOVE Constantine. This comic series is about ready to ruin him for me. It's still 3 stars because 1) I enjoy the art style, 2) the plot is interesting, the story telling is just tedious, and 3) Constantine.
Continues on a great trajectory of establishing John Constantine's character for this new run. This one really focuses on the key element of his character, that everyone who trusts John Constantine usually ends up dead or otherwise ill-fated. The art in this issue is also definitely fantastic. And props to John for implying that Justin Bieber is a more formidable demon than Cthulhu. Can't wait to see where this excellent series will go next.
Constantine gathers a group of ghosts together to draw out a creature that’s destroying them. More of John being a jerk and putting others in harm’s way while trying to prove he’s cool. I dunno….I’m just not clicking with this series. I guess I’m not really into anti-heroes. And I alternate between loving and hating the artwork. Some pages have great layouts and design sense, and others just look like cartoon-y junk. Not sure this book is for me.
OK. We're finally starting to get a little taste of the old John but a bit of me misses Justice League Dark Constantine. Anyway, good story so far. Ghosts, creepy places, and of course bargains and deals sure to go wrong.
