SOME FACTS ABOUT ME:

I'm a New Zealander from Auckland, with dual citizenship (NZ and Croatia). I've also lived in Kerikeri, Singapore and Papua New Guinea.

CAREER PATH: I started off as a Graphic Designer, then went to Auckland University, where I got a BA degree in Art History and Italian Studies and a post-graduate Honors degree in Art History. I worked in the Art History field, then became a full-time artist, doing commissions. I eventually lost all of my senses and gave it up to be a self-published writer, publishing my first book in 2011. Though, earlier in 2023 I returned to art, shelving being a writer since book pirates made it impossible to earn a living from my work, excessively pirating my books. They basically broke my spirit. However, a very nice reader spurred me on to try again, so I'm attempting to revive my writing career.

BAD HABITS: I'm a major procrastinator, I stay up way too late, and I get distracted far too easily unless it's doing something I love. My mind never stops racing, can't turn ADHD off.

SPORTS: As a teenager my favourite sports were karate, badminton, and running. I also did unarmed combat and played in a touch rugby team (my gym teacher made me do the last one!) As an adult, I've couched soccer and have completed two marathons, numerous half-marathons and one 30K run, though I stick to the gym now, hanging up my running shoes.

STATUS: Married to my high school sweetheart (which he hates me calling him). We have two kids.

Review
This episode was one major drama scene after the other.  It was very easy to get caught up in what was going on that the reader may lose sight of what this series is supposed to be about.  I believe that there was too much action and twists to keep the reader stabilized on the premise of the story.

I was entertained but had so many questions about how scenes played out.  Enough said about that…..and I know that Marita noticed what was going on with the series, so much so, that she contacted a few of us and asked our opinion and help with getting the series back on track.

Now, it’s my turn to get up on the soap box and start my rant.  I have had the pleasure of working with Marita on this blog tour and have chatted with her while she writes each episode as a buddy group and I honestly have to say that I have NEVER met any author who takes criticism as well as Marita.

She read a review on GR that I even cringed when reading and prayed she didn’t see it or get upset about it.  You know what she did?  She got on our Group and said – “it was time to get the story back on track” How many authors do you know who can take that, learn from it and strive to do better?  I know in my past with GR, authors can get nasty, flag and complain to GR, but it takes a strong minded author to “chew the meat and spit out the bones”.

As I step down off my soap box, I want to let all reviewers know that the majority of the authors do take what we write seriously and use that to enhance their future writings.

Recap
Rita Kovak

She is just all over the place in this episode.  Rita is still held captive with Jagger at “The House of Whores” while the banter and sexual tension escalates between the two of them.  Jagger wants to help Rita escape but she doesn’t want to leave without getting Jagger to safety.

They have a run in with Matteo and Rita starts spewing out a twist on who she is to get Matteo confused and this gives Jagger and her the chance to finally escape.  Just when Rita thinks she has everything under control with her mission for the FBI, she once again hits a road block.  Not only that…..but something so extreme seems to jog the memories of her past.

We leave Rita locked in a cell at the D’Angelo house.

Frano D'Angelo
[image error]

Frano gets his memories back after Thierry runs to him for help after the beating Bianca took from Alberto.  He confronts his brother and banishes him from the family.  Frano is ready for revenge against the Donatelli’s and he goes gung ho to get his cousin and Rita out of their clutches.

At the end of the episode, Frano is met with the greatest confliction in his life.

Jagger D'Angelo

Jagger is starting to heal from the torture at the hands of The Padre and continually believes that Rita is really his long lost love.

He is met again with Alberto in this episode and we start to learn how unhealthy Alberto’s obsession with Jagger really is.  With everything Jagger has gone through, the only thought in his mind is his own death and how appealing it seems at the present time.

Alberto D'Angelo

Alberto finally gets caught by Frano and is made to confess his sins against his family.  Alberto easily comes up with more lies twisted around the truth trying to keep his allegiance with the Donatelli’s in order to have his obsession, Jagger.

Has Alberto gone too far this time?  What do you think is going to happen once Alberto finally meets back up with Jagger?

These questions and more are answered during this episode!

Padre Michael Donatelli
Must still be at the Vatican during this episode.

Bianca
Not dead…..hmmm?  I wonder what the future holds for her after this?

Matteo

Matteo’s one true obsession, Alberto still wants nothing to do with him and the little green horns are showing towards Jagger.  Matteo wants Jagger dead so Alberto will reciprocate his own feelings.  There is a confrontation between Matteo, Jagger and Rita that will have your jaw dropping to the floor.

Thierry

Thierry tries everything to get Frano to wake up from the drugs and remember everything that has happened.  We do learn though in this episode that Thierry has very strong feelings for Frano and has been carrying a “torch” for him.

Wrap Up
Well, everything came to a head in this book and opens up a new direction for the next set of episodes.  It only makes me wonder how Marita is going to continue after the MAJOR CLIFFHANGER she left us with this episode!

When I say I am over the moon, I mean I am in outer fucking space type of happy right now. That ending - though is pains me to know what happens next - just made me beam. I never realised I was such bloodthirsty bitch but apparently I am and I am loving it!

I know Frano ended this episode feeling horribly sad and at war with himself for doing the right thing but the fucker made me the happiest girl in the entire world. Alberto, Alberto, fuck you Alberto!!

Okay, okay, I shall control my fangirl to get out my thought's on the rest of the episode instead of that bloody amazing last scene! :D

I have never been so mind fucked by a book before in my entire life. I actually think I say that after each episode I read but it can't be helped, this season is just jam packed with drama and multiple 'OMFG' moments that I cannot be anything other than mind fucked. When I process some crazy bit of information and finally wrap my head around it something else shocking happens and knocks me on my arse again. I honestly don't know what to feel or think right now. What the fuck did I just read comes to mind a lot.

This episode was utterly mental!

So much happened that it just constantly had me holding my breath. I don't know what else can be put into this series to shock us because I honestly think we have read it all so far. If I read any more heavy torture or just plain cruelty then I'm going to have to go to mass and straight into confession to cleanse my soul because holy crap so much pain is in this series.

I mean, how can Jagger be alive? His poor body should have just given out by now. I don't understand it at all. Then there is Bianca, my God, from the description of her beating in Theirry's - I'm adopting this angel! - POV HOW is she still alive? I mean, I was in pain just reading what happened to her it was that bad!

That type of descriptive violent and the m/m rape needs to stop, I'm getting a bit fed up with it now. I not condoning the female rape at all but Jesus Christ, I never would have thought there would have been so many openly gay men in the mob. It seems every other male character mentioned is secretly gay or openly gay. Nothing wrong with it at all but still, it's a bit much.

That little snag aside, Rita was the character in this episode that made me scratch my head. When her scene played out with Matteo I literally said what the fuck because she was very convincing with her words that I believed what she was saying wholeheartedly. The tables are flipped on Rita's 'lies' though because when a memory of hers is jogged it brings back her forgotten past and proved those 'lies' are actually the gospel (see what I did there?) truth. I bloody knew it as well, I had a strong feeling she was who Jagger thought she was. Yay me for figuring stuff out ahead of time!

Jagger is in this episode as well and again I completely feel for him, I just can't see him as the alpha male character that he owned in the first episode. He is ruined, utterly ruined as a person so much to the point that I don't know if he can recover. I really want him out of all the characters to get the HEA...well, as much as a person is the mob can get a happily ever after. He deserves it, out of everyone he is the one who is destroyed episode after episode, he needs something good to happen to him not only because I pretty much love him but because its inhuman the hurt that he has gone through without seeing some sort of light at the end of the tunnel for him.

Frano is up in here as well as guess what? My boy has got his memory back. Boo-to-the-fucking-ya! I'm liking Frano a lot lately, he has owned his alpha male status and done right by his family. He actually thinks about his family safety and does what is right by them which makes him the best fit for Don. He completely owns his role.

I have no idea where this series will go to next but bring on episode 6, I'm so bloody excited for it!

My 'hell fucking yes' quote:

"Jagger is no one's, you sick bastardo. And if you ever go near him again, I will hold you down so he can cut your cock off." - Frano

A contrast to Episode 4! This one got more action and hell yeah Frano is the best fucking Don! His revenge for his famiglia is making me want to hug him for his bravery. Revenge at its finest.

Meanwhile, Jagger is so helpless and I want to more than just hug him. If I only could take his pain and nightmares away.. He is beyond damaged and I don't know if he can be healed from that savage. Poor Jagger.

This story is incredibly dark and I'm getting tired of Jagger being brutalized in every episode!!
I want Rita to step up and pull some bad ass shit to get Jagger out of there.

 photo image_zps74fefa8e.jpg

I don't know how Jagger will ever live a normal life after everything that's been done to him.
This episode, Frano turns things around.
Rita even steps up her game but stupid Alberto always seems to have the upper hand.

I was happy to see that Frano is human and has compassion.

I still don't think it's realistic to have so many openly gay men in the Italian mob.
But I'm going with this since I'm five episodes in.
I kind of suspected the deal with Rita but it just seems pretty convenient that all of her memories come back when she's locked in that room with Jagger.

I'm seriously getting tired of the m/m rape.
It's not at all enjoyable to read.
Once was more than enough....it's pretty darn excessive in this series and that's one of the reasons I'm going with a Three star rating.

I'm guessing everything is not copacetic until the Padre, Matteo, and the Black Russian are taken out.

First I have to thank Laura for making me a Marita Hansen junkie now! You are certainly back to your pusher status Laura!!

Holy Shit, I can't put this stuff down. I'm going to jump right into episode 6 and I'll be wondering what to do for the next 3 weeks waiting for the next episode. So if I start getting the shakes we can all blame Laura for my withdrawals!!

I feel like I'm reading the Godfather and Sopranos all rolled into one with a bit more no, make that a large difference.

My random notes have been:
Shit!!!!
I'm sorry but this conversation is funny.
WTH IS GOING ON?!?!
Oh I love Rita

Oh snap! Best ending of this series so far!! Loved it! Loved the back and forth...was she, wasn't she, SHE WAS! That makes things SO much more interesting and messy. Looking forward to Frano as head honcho again and hoping Jagger is back to his old self (all the way back in episode 1 haha) soon.

Reading these installments is like watching an action movie! I can’t recall a single scene that was filled with inner musings, it’s all action! Don’t get me wrong, we are privy to what the characters are thinking and feeling, but they are constantly involved in something, busy dealing with one crisis after another! Even though this story is outrageous and dark, it’s written in a way that is realistic too! I am just so impressed by this series so far!!!

So I have now read the first 5 "Episodes" and I am not quite sure how to review this. I know that I have more Episodes to read but I have to stop for a minute to let you know how truly fucked up this series is. No seriously - this is the most fucked up "book" I have ever read. EVER.

Just an example of one of the many...many fucked up things that are said in these books:

"I pushed to my feet, now getting pissed off that the idiot was persisting with his theories. My brother was a rapist of woment, not of men."

...the pain drowned out the memory as my body was used for someone else's wants and desires. I was no better than the women I trained; I was just as much a slave as they were."

If you cannot handle dark themes then please do not read this. I'm just going to list a little of what I have read so far:

1. Human Trafficking
2. Rape (M/M and M/F)
3. Body mutilation
4. Torture
5. Murder
6. BDSM in the very worst way - in a definite non-consensual way

....to name a few.

It's weird to get into the minds of these characters because they are all extremely fucked up and yet you start to root for some of them. While reading it, I compared it to Sons of Anarchy. We know that these guys are fucked up, demented, crazy mafia guys and yet we want some of them to actually make it out alive. They do bad things and yet we still feel some sympathy towards them. I don't quite understand it myself but it is what it is.

Gonna keep reading the series to finish...gotta see what this Black Russian is all about.

On to the next!

I gave the same review for the first until fifth book. (I just too overwhelmed with what had happened in simple 343 pages)

I have read until episode 5 which is quite surprising because I’m not into this genre but I really like a strong will woman and a powerful man which is Frano. I like him better than Jagger. One thing about this episode 1 is this is the most normal book you will read with no further complications in this season or series or whatever it is. This is the only normal book. The first book end in a very very surprising way but I like it, even for me, it’s quite fast. Yeap. Too fast.

The other 4 episode, you will have time that your head is screaming to you to stop reading because the characters of all the families are going to make you mad and I’m saying this truthfully.

Reading this series is actually disturbs my mind a lot since I want something normal. This book is far away from that. However, this book give you something new. The main female cast, Rita is FBI agent (which is not quite trus when you got to the fifth book) and that is something new in this genre. You always got weak or too strong woman without nothing that we could relate to make them so strong or they just being strong at the first 25% and then they just break because they can’t stand the gorgeous guy? I know, it’s ridiculous.

This series have toooooooo muchhhhhh of complications, too much secret. Stop at the first if you doesn’t want complications. This book is about reality, about the mafia, about the families, about the abused kid (which is becoming something that is necessary in this genre), about guy fighting over a guy, and so manyyyyy more. But the complications, the author might manipulate it way too much because when you read until fourth book, you will stop thinking this book is normal or those characters in the book doesn’t have any secret. You will start thinking that no one in this book doesn’t have past.

The more you read, the more you know it. I don’t know what I should feel toward this series to be honest. I don’t even know what I should feel while reading this, all I got is 3000 emotions flooding in me but I don’t even know what it is. I don’t know who I should recommend this series, all I know is, this book is going to be the most complicated book that I have read and the second place goes to The Vampire Diaries series. (TVD series doesn’t got too many things happened in one book) I just got overwhelmed with everything in this book and one more thing, so many people die that I don’t even care anymore.

You got first normal book, you got the upside down of mafia’s world in second book, you got the manipulation the stupid the dirty thinking of a man in third book, you got ‘how desperation drives people’ in fourth book and you got crazy in fifth book.

Warning: This series is probably the darkest I have read. Do not read this if you are squeamish. This book contains explicit rape, m/m, m/f scenes. While that is not for everyone, I still enjoyed the book. If that content does not bother you, you will enjoy this series.

I like and hate that it reads like a tv show. Because you have to wait for each "episode". I didn't start it until the set of the first five were available together. It is a little different in that respect. So keep that in mind before you start the series.

The author does a terrific job with the story line and characters. I could not believe that I was able to feel empathy for some of these characters who really were just awful human beings! That is the sign of a great story teller. I haven't been this conflicted since Dark Duet and the Consequences series. However, some of the twists were kind of too ridiculous. I would have preferred it stopped with the first twist, and left Rita as she seemed. I will still be tuning in to see how it plays out, regardless!

Why I chose this book?

I had the chance to join the blog Tour.

What I liked about this book.

* The book left me feeling uneasy.
* I'm left wanting to know what happens.
* Although the book has very dark themes it's hard not to feel for the characters.

What I didn't like about this book.

* It was very dark. Not a criticism more a warning.

Would I read more from these authors?

Yes

Would I recommend this book?

Yes but not to all. It's dark.

Altro episodio super appassionante.

Jagger's character went downhill, from the cool guy to the 'poor' guy who got effed. Complete. Total. Reversal.

Thank god there's no sex involved between Jagger and Rita! And Frano's back!! I think this is where I realized that the end-game is Rita and Frano, and if not, I'm going to hate the author..forever..i'm not kidding.

Can't wait for them to be re-reunited,yes, re-reunited!

Tonto! He got killed because he's sick in the head! Poor Jagger!!
Argghh! I hate novella's!!!! Aint' enough!! Who's the first author who wrote novella's? ArghhH!
