The Wait is a fast-paced suspense story about an unusual and unexpected side of London's criminal underworld.
It's Friday night in a London hospital's busy A&E ward. Waiting to be seen is Conrad Douglas, a 48 year old man who is bleeding from a nasty cut above his right eye and sitting on a small mountain of secrets.
Who is Conrad? What's he doing in A&E? How did he get hurt? And who's the man sitting next to him who refuses to leave? These are the questions that The Wait answers... and more.
Frances M. Thompson writes stories about bisexual disaster heroes usually getting the HEAs they deserve in her spicy contemporary romance... but sometimes getting into a lot of trouble in her suspense thrillers.

Sooooo I just re-read this as it's the prequel to a book I'm currently working on and I weirdly surprised myself by how fast-paced, easy-to-read, and page-turning this was. I also totally forgot some of the twists and turns I threw in it. Yes, I wrote it, so this is all quite weird to stay, but as a reader I stand by it all.
The Wait by Frances M Thompson is a novella and first book in the series of what will be full length novels. Thompson has only written books of short stories before which I've loved and so I'm really looking forward to reading a full novel by her. It's called The Weaker Sex and I have it in my Kindle ready to go. Just got a few library books to finish first. But back to The Wait. This is the story of a man waiting in A&E. A man he doesn't seem to know is waiting with him and won't leave. We gradually learn the backstory and absolutely nothing is what I thought it would be. It's unusual to find a book that keeps me so surprised right up to the end. If you haven't read her books before I do recommend you pick this one up.
This is a series of books. Got recommendation for the second one in an email (from Goodreads? supposed to be a top popular book) so started with this first book. It's a bit confusing as is the 2nd one, especially in the beginning of the book. It's about some sort of "underground" type organization of somewhat shady characters (each with their own "talent"). Takes place in London of course.
A fast-paced and intriguing read. Definitely leaves you wanting more. My only 'complaint' is that it felt too short and I wanted to know what will happen to the main character next! Luckily, I know there are more instalments in this series on the way...
