Northern Ireland 1998. A ceasefire. A new dawn. The uncertainty after the Good Friday Agreement creates an opportunity when the untimely death of an MP opens a door to power. Two very different men navigate this time of change in Irish Politics. Kevin Higgins is at the height of his powers, a successful career and solid marriage gives him the confidence to tackle anything. His wife is wary of the consequences but she supports him even though it puts strain on their relationship and breaks his promise to her. Simon Lightwood is the latest of a political dynasty. A shy young man dealing with the recent death of his MP father and the turmoil of separation from his first love, Becky, his life had just begun to open up to possibility. Now the expectation and obligation weigh heavily and he sees his life planned out for him by a faceless political machine. A terrorist bomb threatens to derail the peace process and thrusts the two into the spotlight. On Polling Day they must choose between their new obligations and the women they love.
Born in Cork, Ireland, I was a Civil Engineer for 30 years which is more than enough for anyone. I retired to a life of coffee and the odd beer as a full time writer in July 2018.
The global pandemic allowed me to publish my third novel, 'Nobody's Hero' in 2021. The story is inspired by my family history and has the themes of identity, duty and love. The story spans the Atlantic between Ireland and America over several generations.
I have written two other novels; Searching for Ahimsa and Battered. I decided to consolidate my writing onto one platform and moved my earlier novels onto KDP. 'Searching for Ahimsa' and Battered' are available on Amazon along with 'Nobody's Hero'.
'Another Eden' became 'Where the Truth Lies' and was published in late 2023. This is a story based on an alternative present where Communism won the Cold War, the US is no longer a superpower and Humankind is about to go to the planets. There is also a serial killer on the loose.
