Heir

Rate this book
Teddy Montrose was supposed to have another decade before inheriting the Montrose empire.

Then his parents are killed, leaving him twenty-two, grieving, and in control of a fortune powerful men have spent years waiting to claim.

With the board circling and pressure mounting for Teddy to surrender control, Knox Vallen and Elias Shaw arrive at Wintermere. Older, commanding, and infuriatingly protective, they insist they were hired by his parents months before their deaths.

Teddy assumes they’re there to protect the estate.

They aren’t.

They’re there to protect him.

Knox and Elias take control of Teddy’s security, his home, and increasingly every part of his life he’s struggling to hold together. But the closer the danger gets, the harder it becomes to separate protection from possession, or trust from something far more dangerous.

Because someone wants Teddy frightened enough to surrender his inheritance.

Someone else wants him dead.

And Knox and Elias are prepared to destroy anyone who tries to take him from them.

Falling for one of his protectors would be reckless.

Falling for both could cost Teddy everything.

HEIR is an age-gap MMM romantic suspense featuring two fiercely protective bodyguards, forced proximity, old-money secrets, hurt/comfort, found family, and one overwhelmed heir who was never meant to face any of it alone.‍ ‍

About the author

Elise Rose

Elise Rose is an Australian author of dark romantic thrillers blending crime, tension, and emotionally intense relationships. Her stories live in the space between danger and devotion — where protection can become possession and love is never simple.

She writes why-choose romance featuring complex characters forced together by circumstance, secrets, and survival. Expect slow-burn connection, high stakes investigations, hurt-comfort, and characters who would do anything to keep the people they love safe.

Her books focus as much on emotional healing as they do suspense, combining thriller pacing with deeply character-driven romance.

When she isn’t writing, Elise can usually be found plotting future books, talking with readers online, or thinking about fictional men far more than is socially acceptable.

Now this is the one that’s gonna stick with me the longest, I can already tell.
I was worried after reading Rookie and Echo that this would be the same story in a different font. How wrong I was! I truly do love being surprised by these books, Elise has a true gift in changing perceptions.
The depths of Teddy’s character? From what truly seemed like a spoiled rich boy at the start to realising that there was so much more to him than first impression.
While this book is on the less spicy end of the spectrum, it’s very well written and just enough to keep it out of the YA category (LOOOOVE!)
I still would love just a bit more of the character descriptions as it is hard for me to visualise what characters look like, this is more of a personal preference over a need.
This book truly does feel like running through a minefield, it is packed with action and emotional turmoil. I loved the twists and turns, the reveal of the ‘big bad’ and the love shared between the main characters.
I am a sucker for a happy ending and this book absolutely has that.
I think the length is perfect, nothing feels rushed, the book is well thought out/planned and everything flows together nicely.
This is absolutely my favourite book from this series and will definitely be re-reading it again soon.

After reading Rookie, i thought it was great, aftee reading Echo, i thought it was perfect and now im caught between a rock and a hard place because this book shows how an author can improve within even a few books...

Its less spicy than Rookie and Echo were and at first i didnt know what to think about it because it felt kinda out of the line but the length and the development of the atory made it just a perfect read

In Echo i loved the 'crimey' part and now, in Heir it got even better, it was thrilling and when you thought you knew what happened or will happen it went in the completely different direction

Elise, this book is the best of all three and if you keep improving like you did in those last few books i have no doubt you will be really big one day, ill be here for it all!!!

Im already excited about your next work

(For the record... Robbie is the goat)

This is the kind of book that would get you out of a reading slump! It was such an easy read that had me falling into the world from the first page. And for $8? Honestly, an absolute steal!

I strongly recommend this if you love intelligent, witty and charming characters with playful banter and high stakes. The authors decisions for the characters all make sense, with no jarring changes to them for the sake of progressing the story. I will now be diving into Elise Rose’s other books from this one alone. 5 stars! Please give us more Teddy, Knox & Elias!

I liked this one much more than Rookie! I felt the pacing was great. Not too rushed or dragged on. I enjoyed the more gradual development of their romance and the more gradual unfolding of the mystery behind who was targeting Teddy. The bodyguards and rich but humble architect dynamic were lovely to read. The hints of D/S dynamic were enjoyable to read. I also appreciated how they touch upon grief and PTSD in more depth compared to Rookie. Overall, I have seen quite the improvement in writing, and I look forward to reading Theo's (who was briefly mentioned in this story) story next!

A day. It took me a day to finish. The writing in this is wonderful, Elise really knows how to grip you from the very start. Every time I thought I knew something I was pulled in the other direction. I love the emotional depth that is written. How details are added but it’s never too much. The plot moves quickly but is detailed enough that it works. The amount of times I thought oh it’s so and so was unreal. I can’t wait to read her other works. I can’t wait for more of her works to come.

This book truely has it all!!! The connection that forms between Teddy and Knox and Elias is beautiful to watch grow. The way the help draw Teddy out from his shell and support and protect him is everything. They become a part of his life without him even realising and then he can’t be without them. It has so many twists you won’t know what’s about to happen.

Loved every possible moment of this book! Such a sucker for a hurt/comfort trope. Loved how the author gave us those medical moments and didn’t just skip to the next day as so many do!
Can’t wait to read her other books!

DNF @47%. The plot of the business partners was just too much of the book. If this wasn’t a romance book, I’d understand. But it’s suppose to be building a connection and some angst. It was just boring.
