Harrow’s work, as always, sets a precedent for the type of story in which the unseen other plays the pivotal role; the story of a solitary (main) character and one of the supernatural, is one of compassion rather than only horror. In fact, this theme overrides any of Harrow’s works, in that the actual “horror “ leads to a sympathy with the phantom protagonist and gives the reader the opportunity to engage with it in a meaningful way. In the end, Harrow provides a subtle and compelling metaphor to the struggle by all humans to engage in their humanity with compassion and substance, while at the same time giving a sense of sorrow.
A short eerie, spooky, what the fuck read! Had me wanting to keep going and figure it out! My only complaint is not truly knowing what it was , but that’s part of the eerie feeling !
