Real heroes die with their boots on. Sheriff Steve Rogers faces corruption and fear in the boom town of Timely. The only thing Anthony Stark seems capable of is pulling a cork, so can he pull Rogers' fat from the fire? But...a stranger comes to town that will change Timely forever...for anyone left standing, that is.
This was basically reading something from the Western genre with familiar characters. If you do not like westerns, you will not like this comic as there is nothing truly "super powered" about it. It is just a western with familiar characters/faces. And that still made it great.
I thought this would be similar to Marvel 1602, but I think this must be part of the Secret Wars, which I haven't read. Still, I enjoyed the different Marvel characters re-imagined as part of the Wild West... I can only hope that Bucky isn't really dead! I should have time to hunt down more of the Secret Wars series before the next issue comes out...
I loved this one. I'm glad that I was paying attention the last time I walked into the comic bookstore, because I'd somehow overlooked this one during my previous visit. Fortunately, they were talking about it at the register. Marvel Western. Brilliant!
Nicole Virella provided some really good art for this issue. I liked this art a lot better than anything new from Marvel in the last few years, but then again I haven't read a whole lot of Marvel lately. Characters all look great, clothing & backgrounds have tons of detail. Art gets 4 stars.
I'm unfamiliar with writer Jerry Duggan. I do like the set up he used putting well known Marvel characters in the old west. This seems like a promising start to this mini series. For now the writing gets 4 stars. Depending on how the next few issues turn out, the next few writing scores could go either way.
most iconic moments: -tony serenading steve -actually, every homoerotic interaction between tony and steve -bruce: what the devil is rogers' problem? he's going to get himself killed tony: i understand that particular urge -western town drunk tony stark is hot -red wolf calling steve a "stupid white man"
