Sinners & Saints #2

Reckless Karma

Rate this book
Hugo

Don’t misinterpret me when I say I’ve gotten weak. I wouldn’t change a thing. It’s worth it. She’s worth it. But now karma is coming to collect my debt of sins and even though that karma is in the form of a woman who practically birthed my sinful nature… I can’t help but think that I deserve all this. Just because I’m in love with a remarkable woman doesn’t mean I’m a good man. The devil can fall in love too, ya know.

Juliet

What is it about me and bad situations? I just tend to get myself into them. But have you seen the man I’m in love with? He’s worth it. He has to be. I want him to be… but how can I fight for his heart and soul without losing my own?

Karlie

I’m here for one thing. I am going to destroy her. I am going to sip on fine wine and smile as I watch her entire world collapse like she did with mine. Hugo is the only one who can help me do it. He’s the key to bringing her down.

Scarlett

They think they can destroy me. They think I will fall easily as I have risen easily because I’ve done horrible things. Boo hoo. Take your remorse and pity and jump off a balcony with it. I have news for all of you.

Karma may be a bitch… but so am I.

This was totally amazing

I 've been waitin for this book for a while an I was super excited when I got my hands on an I wasn't disappointed at al the story had way more twists and turns I was on the edge of my seat for must of the book an the characters were so evil an stronger than ever it was actually great seein much how much some of the characters had changed from the first book

This book started from where the last book finished but with the bonus pov of Gabriel which made this book so so much better getting into Gabriel's head an findin out what happened between him an Scarlett an then the way he fell in luv with Karlie an how the way things ended for him but I ended up feelin so sorry for him through out this book he never had a chance to have a life with Karlie with Scarlett an his messed up family I m not surprised Hugo got caught up in the web that is Scarlett

Scarlett is even more messed up in this book she is more evil an will go to any level to get where she needs to b findin out a few things from the past made me understand but she never needed to do what she did by screwing with people that did nothing to her she is pure evil an I have to say I hated her she makes me so angry I wanted to punch my kindle half the time with her smug smile an just really not giving a shit it was great when Karlie came back an could wipe maybe a lil bit of the smile cause that smile didn't fully go away no matter what happened

Hugo was such a strong character in this book an he needed to b when he found out so really hard stuff he could cope once he had Juliet by his side she was still dealin with stuff as well but together they were so strong no one could get to them not even Scarlett when she was at her worst an with the support from his family at Ms Eleanor's an the luv he found from other family that's al he needed but revenge was what he had set his eyes on an with Karlie on her own set of revenge they were not to b messed with

This book had so much goin on with it an getting the pov from everyone getting into everyone's head an for me it's what made this so good getting to know everyone that was part of Ms Eleanor's house an them bein part of Hugo an August's life's after what they have both been through an not just them everyone in that house as been through so much but some of them getting there HEA made me so happy cause I luv nearly al of them an they made this book so good to read

Like I said there r was so many twist an turns in this book but the flow of the book went so good u never got confused with what was goin on an the way the book was written was just brilliant the author really knows who to keep u in suspense an then u have the endin OMG I was so happy an mad cause I want more I can't wait for the next book I just know it's goin to b brilliant I would highly recommend this book but u do have to read the first book but that brilliant as well I could keep goin on about this book cause I luvd it that much give me more now ; ) xxx

☆ I received an ARC via the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you! ☆

3.5 stars!

There's a lot going on in this novel. It's a collection of what wealth, beauty, money, power, and utter corruption will do to you and seeing how far you survive it. Do you come out on top or crumble away into dust?

I had to readjust myself again, as I had forgotten that this book series alters on a rotation of character POVs. But nonetheless this book was a thrill to get into.

Can't wait for bk3!

This is the second book in this trilogy and you definitely have to read the previous book 'Sinners & Saints' first, since it's been awhile I decided I'd best skim 'Sinners' but ended up doing a full re-read, it really is that addictive.
This is a series about rich spoilt entitled young adults, a kind of 'Cruel Intentions' to the extent where from the first time she was mentioned I've pictured Sarah Michelle Gellar as Scarlett and Ryan Phillippe as Hugo.
Now it would be so easy to dislike these kids because on the surface they have everything but once we look closer we see their lives are empty and while they may have money in most cases they don't have the love or even attention of their equally rich and spoilt parents and it's depressing and worrying because the money they have access to along with their family name gives these young adults the kind of power no one that age should have.
'Sinners' opened at the funeral of Gabriel Mandrake and throughout that book he remained a bit of an enigma but in this book we get a much better picture of him in fact this book opens with him.
There's a lot of great characters here but the four main players are:

Scarlett - The Beautiful Serpent.
It's hard to describe Scarlett it's not often in the books I read that I come across pure evil but trust me Scarlett comes close.

Hugo.
He was only fifteen when his brother Gabriel died and Scarlett set her sights on him and she's made him into the man he is today.

Juliet - The English Rose.
Juliet is from England, she comes from money so she's one of them, she's lived the life they live, too much money, drugs and power, she's made some horrendous mistakes and been a complete and utter bitch but she's changed, she's different, she's attracted to Hugo and he's attracted to her and Scarlett simply hates her.

Karlie.
I'm not saying much about Karlie you'll discover her story as you read I'll just say she's back for revenge.

We get twists and turns as the story unfolds, I don't want to say more because I don't want to spoil it and remember this is only book two of three the final book 'Spawns of Gold' is due out in September.

I'd like to thank Chelsea for sending me a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review, it's also on KU so I downloaded it at well to read on my kindle I also noticed that the first book 'Sinners' is currently free as well.
Just waiting for 'Gold' now.

Reckless karma is the sequel to the delicious first book sinners and saints. It stars exactly where the first one ended with

This book has more drama to it, more games and more evil plans adds to that the addition of a new character named KARLIE, a girl from Gabriel past and we have a huge mess of madness, love, revenge. The plot is very tight and it progressed in a convincing way while balancing all the elements that makes the book a crazy ride from start to finish.

The relationships that exist between the characters also progressed in the most natural way I could hope for. It was not forced. Everything relationship had the space to shine and to go through its ups and downs without losing the momentum of the most important events in the book. The characters developpement was something that made the book stands out for me. They all were put in difficult situations and they all made choices that made them more human for me.

The reveals were shocking and heartbreaking at once. But they were needed to jolt the events in the right direction. And they were revealed in the right time with the right set of characters. The romance is off the chart and it was on the same level as the first book. I also appreciated that I got to know the elusive GABRIEL a lot more in this book and I felt deeply sorry for him.

Scarlet, the monster i love to hate. I’m glad everyone knew the real her but I’m also glad that she’s not quitting the game yet because that means another book is coming and I can’t wait to read it.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review!

OK, so reckless karma! What can I say but holy shit! This book leads you through webs of lies and a lot of bullshit and it brings you out on the other side feeling changed.
Changed in the way that for me at least, I looked at this group of misfits, these spoiled rich people as more than that. Book 2 really goes in deep and reveals all the hidden secrets that make people who and how they are. And it's ugly!
But damn did Chelsea Ballinger write to where everything flowed so easily, it was written perfectly!

It starts up right where book 1 ended, and Hugo and Karlie are still mastering there plan to ruin Scarlett because she is a manipulative, psycho bitch!
I loved that I got the POV's of all the characters, I never had to guess what someone was doing because they were all speaking in this book.
Let's start with Poppy and Jazz, side characters that I liked. Poppy finds her happiness and it's great.
Jordana finally gets her love and it's beautiful.
Cody and Anika are adorable and I like that Cody gets to be happy.
But this isn't about them not really this is about The Mandrakes!
Yes, and it was hard to read at one point because of how well detailed and emotional Chelseas writing is. You can't help but really feel every word that is written and with Gabriel it was heartbreaking.
Book 1 he was a dead brother of Hugo no big detail going into it, book 1 was basically Hugo's story and how he was made into what Scarlet wanted. But this one Reckless Karma this to me felt like Gabriel's book well half of it. This was his story how he felt how he was never able to really be happy. His emotions poured into me in a weird way because I fell for this man that was dead. I really hurt for him and was absolutely heartbroken with his outcome.
Karlie as well, to feel pain everyday and not know how to handle it, so much heartbreak but I'm so happy to see that she finally got her answers, no matter how hurtful it was to hear. She deserved to be happy and hopefully she will get her HEA!
Scarlet is still an annoying, manipulative, piece of shit bitch, but she only partially got hers! I want to destroy her. Secrets of the details of Gabriel's death come to light and so do someone elses.
As for Juliet, she was always there to try and help Hugo through this Rollercoaster of crap. But her past comes back and leaves her feeling a little broken, luckily she has an amazing man like Hugo to help her.
And my handsome Hugo and August, the twins Mandrakes!
August is a beautiful soul and I loved reading about him, his mazes and all, he was the special one that saw it and lived it all,
Hugo he really changed, for the better. He learned to really love, to think about more than just himself. We finally saw his soul...

This book was emotional in all ways, I felt my chest compress painfully for Gabriel, and I had so much hate for Scarlett, I absolutely loved Hugo and Juliet together and I was happy for Jordana, Poppy, Cody, and Anika.
Now don't be mistaken this book has more characters that will be shown and brought to light but I won't go into details. Just read it!
It's a ride that I am so glad I got on, because no matter how many bumps and twist and turns, or drops I loved every minute of it!
And O holy balls that snippet for book 3 has me waiting so impatiently for it, can't wait!!

Plot: This novel follows on from the first saint’s and sinners book, so I will not talk much about plot in order to keep spoiler free but definitely go and read the first book! I love this story the plot followed on really nicely and it kept up with the high action and quick pace. The story is really well written and you are able to visualise your self in the New York location and I love that!

Characters: There is further character development from the previous novel with a view additional characters being brought in such as Jaz which meant that there was also new character’s explored. Hugo was still a really interesting and developed character with his troubled past being resolved more and more. I really liked seeing Gabriel’s perspective within this book to and it allowed a really interesting development from the past.

Structure: We have many different narratives through out the book ranging from any significant character at the time of the plot which is a really interesting way for the plot to flow and means that you can move between times and progress from the past and the future. It also means you become attached to some characters more and sometimes you do wish there was more written from that characters perspective.

This book contains dark subject matter, so if you have triggers this book may not be for you.

Holy cow where do I even begin?! Do you believe in Karma?

Scarlett is back and she is more cunning and malicious then ever!! Karma is a BITCH!!!

This book was about anger, revenge, deception, manipulation, loss, hope, new beginnings, second chances, life lessons, finding ones self, and the strength of family and love. You will be taken on an emotional roller coaster.

Even though there was dark subject matter I really enjoyed this book. It was very well written and the plot was very well thought out. It was told in multiple POV's (all main characters) It left the wheels turning all throughout it will keep guessing until the very end. This was book 2 first book was Sinner & Saints. This book was a great read!! The scary thing is that there are people in this world just like Scarlett. *shivers* I can't wait for book 3

The Best Parts:
Oh my god. What did I just read? I need to take a moment and totally just gush about this book and the amazingness that just happened. Like SO much happened and it was totally perfect ending and follow up to the first book. Yes. Just so many yeses!

Ok now that that is out of the way. This story is everything I wanted it to be and MORE. There were so many twists and turns. A few I was able to map out in my head at first and then some super surprising things happened and omfg bitches be crazy.

The characters only got better with this book. You are able to see them open so much more and grow into these wonderful people. It’s even fun when these characters you have loved aren’t even the one changing but are the ones impacting the change of others. The story here of how everyone’s live affect each other is strong and the fact that just one person coming into your life can change it is the best lesson of all.

Also I may have cried. You will know when you get to that part.

The Worst Parts:
I didn’t find anything bad with this book. The language was great and the use of multiples POVs just made the story more exciting. What I will say is that if you are sensitive to triggers then I would be cautious. There are some subjects that are brought up, a few that are in the first novel as well, but this one actually shows them happening and it caught me off guard but in a good way. Chelsea did such an artful job with writing the rough scenes that even though you know what you are reading is bad you know that there is peace and understanding behind it.

Final Thoughts:
You want drama? You got it. You want heartbreak? Here you go. You want love? Well be prepared to swoon. You want sexy? Drop your pants now.

Pst… the epilogue at the end will have your head spinning for more! <3

totally loved this it flows right where sinners and saints part one left the story is about rich spoiled kids per say and the girls scarlett who trained her little army to be ruthless hugo falls in love with juliette which p1sses off scarlett even though scarlett is engaged gabriel (hugo deceased brother) ex karlie comes back after 6 plus years (with a big secret) with a determination to take down scarlett for what she did to her and also she blames scarlett for gabriel death ..scarlett is still black mailing everybody and she is determined that nobody is going to be loved especially hugo.. they find out about this club called black card club uncle started which also ended at his death (a great scene cant give it away but it includes gabriel) hugo with juliett meets his maternal grandmother and he confronts her about not loving his mother (she is deceased suicide 1st book) then after the second confrontation grandmother dies (cant give away details) and he his brother and two other family members receives her entire estate worth billions ..chad dies (scarlett involved with another major secret there) scarlett and patrick break up thanks to hugo and scarlett skips town when she should have been in jail this story has a lot of sex, drugs, many secrets exposed and murder it is extremely well written and i am so glad to be the first to review i would totally recommend to any person above age 15 (just because of sexual content) and you would have to read the first book as it gives the foundations to this one 100% enjoyable no reader will regret reading this story great job to the author

5+ stars Soooooo good!
I LOVED the first book, it was super awesome and incredibly amazing and this one is just as good if not better. I think what I loved about this book so much was getting to know Gabriel, I absolutely loved his part in the story even if we knew how it would end for him.
I have to say that there were lots of emotions on this book, I was very sad and even cried at some parts of the story.
I already loved Hugo and August from book 1 but loved them even more on this book.
We kinda get a HEA (with the main couple anyway) and most of the secondary characters get their HEA as well, a few not so much...
I think many readers might want justice or revenge or something (death?) for Scarlett but even though I hated her I am so glad the author finished the story the way she did and that we will see her again (maybe?) on the next book.
Cannot wait to read Spawn of Gold (so excited!!!)
Will recommend to my friends but read book 1 to understand the story better.

I received this book from the author in exchange for a honest review! Thank you!

This is a continuation from Saints & Sinners #1 and I was not disappointed. The drama continues with more dark secrets revealed. I am not a fan of multiple POVs however it works in this series.

Scarlett is more twisted, cruel and bitchy in this book. Her troubled childhood is revealed and some insight given to her craziness.

Hugo and Juliet both have hurdles to deal with. And they have support from everyone at Ms Eleanor's. The secondary characters also have their own problems and I was rooting for all of them to have their own HEA.

More of Karlie’s relationship with Gabriel is uncovered with some unexpected twists.

Can’t wait for the next book!!

I received an ARC for an honest review of "Reckless Karma." Chelsea Ballinger never disappoints! The second installment of the story was excellent! We go further into the lives of August and Hugo, and letting us see the anguish that was Gabriel until the end was worth the whole book. Karlie's POV added more layers to the story. Let's not forget Scarlett, the epitome of evil, God rest her soul! Oh, pardon me, she's not dead yet, unfortunately. EXCELLENT STORY!!!!! Keep 'em coming!!!!!
