Golden Age of Science Fiction MEGAPACK

The 20th Golden Age of Science Fiction MEGAPACK ™

Rate this book
During the 1950s, Evelyn E. Smith regularly published science fiction in magazines like Galaxy and Fantastic Universe. Her stories ranged from post-apocalyptic satires to adventure to humor. She also wrote four science fiction novels, which chiefly deal with questions of gender identity. Like all of her work, they are characterized by their sharp wit. At her best, she was the equal of anyone -- male or female -- writing for the pulp magazines.

This volume collects 12 of her short stories,

Evelyn E. Smith is one of the better Golden Age Science-fiction writers. The editor of this interesting collection surmises that her neglect is possibly owing to the fact that she worked over a fairly wide range of activities and spread herself too thin.

Certainly she is a very competent writer with a sense of humour and an awareness of gender issues and social stereotyping. She was also a well-known crossword puzzle compiler which shows in the fun she has with very odd words and names--particularly for her aliens.

This generous set includes twelve tales some of which are of novelette or novella length and all of which are enjoyable for a very small price.
