The Quiet Power of Blogging: Why Blogging Still Matters in a TikTok World

Rate this book
You have a passion, a skill, life lessons, or a business you want to share with others. But what is the most lasting, powerful way to do it?

Blogging has long helped people get their messages into the world. But is it still the best way? And in a world of TikTok, social media, and rapidly changing technology, is blogging here to stay?

The Quiet Power of Why Blogging Still Matters in a TikTok World answers those questions for people considering their first blog—and reassures experienced bloggers who wonder whether the time and energy they have invested still matter.

This isn't simply another book about how to blog. You'll discover practical resources for starting and maintaining a blog, explore the larger blogging ecosystem, and learn why blogging continues to offer something other forms of social media a place to slow down, develop your ideas, share your creativity, and build genuine community.

Whether you are a writer, photographer, artist, small-business owner, retiree, or simply someone with something to say, blogging can give your ideas a lasting home.

After retiring as educational consultants from the public and university sectors, Marsha Ingrao and Terri Webster Schrandt have blogged for over ten years while studying the art and technology of blogging. Most importantly, blogging has helped them build lasting relationships—connections far more meaningful than thousands of social media followers.

Write. Share. Connect. The stories go on.

Practical, encouraging, and full of experience

In a world dominated by short videos, quick posts, and ever-changing social media trends, The Quiet Power of Blogging is a thoughtful reminder that there is still something special about having a space of your own online. What I particularly appreciated is that the authors look beyond platforms, technology, and algorithms to the human side of blogging: finding your voice, building connections, sharing ideas, and creating something that can last.

Chapter 9, Finding Your Published Identity, especially resonated with me. The authors make the important point that a blogging identity is shaped by our values, boundaries, tone, purpose, and the way we interact with readers. Over time, those choices become part of who we are as writers online. I also enjoyed Chapter 10, Comments, Connection, and Community, the idea that writing may bring people to a blog, but conversation is what keeps them coming back. Meaningful comments, genuine encouragement, and the friendships that grow through blogging can become just as valuable as the writing itself. Warm, practical, encouraging, and full of experience, this is a valuable read for both new bloggers and those of us who have been blogging for years and occasionally wonder whether it still matters.

I've read a few books regarding blogging, and this is one of the best. Authors Marsha Ingrao and Terri Webster Schrandt make so many great points in this easy to follow book that will be extremely helpful for anyone considering starting a blog. I appreciated and agreed with many of the overall points such as not expecting immediate success, building a community through healthy interaction, overcoming perfectionism, taking part in challenges to expand your reach, and maturing along with your blog. A blog is not a stagnant entity, but something that will grow as the author gains confidence and learns new skills. I loved that the authors quoted and recognized specific bloggers and effective blogs.

There are tons of helpful appendices in the back of the book including sample blog posts, blogging challenges, and many other tools and resources. The idea of starting a blog will not seem so scary after you read this informative book.
