I am in love with this series. The writer has a captivating writing style, he tries to keep the reader's mind busy to distract it from unwraping the truth behind the main plot question, using different stategy each volume. I kinda feel that he is similar to "Tgurneu" in away -sorry Yamagata-san-. The story has progressed significantly in this volume... This is the 5th volume of this light novel. The official translation seems to be more simple compared to the amature one, in a negative way, not sating it is bad or anything though. Can't wait to read the 6th and last volume.
The elusive fifth volume of Rokka: Braves of the Six Flowers was a thrilling read that finally answers some questions posed back in the first volume. The problems the characters faced in this part of the story felt tense and heavy, and it made for an engaging read. This novel steps deeper into the psychology of the characters, and it was a lot of fun seeing their motivations played out. While the eventual answers to a lot of the book's how's seemed somewhat unrealistic and convenient, I still enjoyed the journey this book presented and the mysteries it solved, and it's left me excited about the end of this series.
After waiting for years for this novel, it’s finally here and the best parts is that the 6th novel is currently out (and ordered) AND it’s still one hell of a ride!
───────────────────
This is the first novel series I picked up, I enjoyed the hell out of its anime and since it was just a promotion with nothing wrapped up, I wanted to see how the story begins (novel wise) and of course, continues. Each volume has its fair share of twists and turns, and I’m so glad to see that although I have read 5 volumes of this series so far, I still can’t predict the way Ishio-sensei plans to end this phase in all of its points. This volume clears up a few secrets we’ve been running in circles with the characters trying to solve since volume 1, adds extra layers to some characters and gives us another perspective of the fiends that makes things somewhat clearer in some places.
The way Ishio-sensei tells this story is probably the thing I enjoy the most about his writing, it’s not just following the perspective of a select few and you’re supposed to guess how this happened or how did that happen, no, he gives the chance for everyone; be it human or not. For example, once the various discussions start, we get characters who mention something off-hand, like the existence of something but the thing is, it would be the first time I’ve ever heard about it, later on there will be a section where Ishio-sensei will give the perspective to someone who will reveal how that thing came to be without making the story feel disjointed and I really appreciated that.
Because of how much gets revealed or approached every volume, Ishio-sensei also makes some characters repeat that event to give the reader a sort of refresher, or at least that’s what it felt like to me. I mean, before the license of this novel it was being fan translated and I read volumes 1-4 through that translation which stopped back in 2016 after the license, so this gap getting filled for me to make the transition back into this series easier was another thing I really appreciated. Like every other volume, it will focus on a single character in a much bigger scale than the rest and this time we get to see Fremy’s past, her upbringing and how she became a brave which also giving the spotlight to the other characters in smaller and not as history heavy instances.
I did notice that Goldov for some reason didn’t get that much of a focus this time around, but then again, volume 3 covers almost everything about this guy so I’m content. I didn’t talk about the plot so far because there are so many things to cover and because of spoilers, there are quite a few secrets in this series and although all the braves are working towards defeating the Demon God in some way, they also have to solve said mysteries and this novel answers almost all of them. After it has left us guessing for years on who is who, and personally I’m glad to see that I wasn’t wrong in my deduction, there is one big indicator I believe I missed back then, but reading it here again solidified my chosen culprit.
There was a certain thing I didn’t enjoy reading about all that much, and it sorry of put a dampener on my reading mood because it was there, but I guess I should have left to Ishio-sensei to somehow convince me that it’s bound to happen because of the character roles. Finally. I recently learned that this Light Novel series is broken down into phases, the first phase supposedly ends with the 6th volume which, if true, works perfectly with the slow speed he writes in andI can’t wait to see how it will be wrapped up in volume 6.
I couldn't close my eyes to the very dragged out and repetitive approach this time around, nor could I help thinking, many times over the course of the novel, that there is actually very little plot-wise happening in this volume that could've easily been condensed to half the length. I don't know. The revelations weren't so shocking this time around and their impact didn't stick as much as they did in the first three volumes. I'm beginning to worry I'll be disappointed with where the story goes from here, as I feel like the series lost quite a bit of steam and momentum in volumes 4 and 5 in terms of plot and "cleverness." Here's hoping I'm wrong.
This series is brilliant! I read this one in no time, just couldn't put it down. Fortunately, the writer decided that he couldn't drag the "7th plot" without some development for much long and decided to answer quite a few questions in this volume. Halfway through it I was thinking "this seems forced" and then click click click click and everything is clicking into gear... Tgurneau, you are a sneaky bastard!!
Absolutely amazing, won't debate the plot here as anything at this stage can be considered spoiler. The afterword is just weird, the writer sounds so weird!
I know this is the lowest score that I gave in this series and it isn't because of the plot or the character neither the writing: the thing that really put me off when reading this volume is the pace: the pace is far too fast since the volume starts quite calm but at page 40 or something it backfires with frantic and anxious scenes which look like they never end I mean even in the BACKSTORY the pace is extremely fast and you can't take a berth of fresh air until you reach the end of the book. This absurdly rapid pace is what let me down in this volume
Me encontré dividido muchas veces al tiempo que estuve aterrado gracias a lo mucho que me transmitieron estos personajes. Una historia que quiero seguir asta su final. Que espero no sea amargo.
Braves of the Six Flowers Book 5 is stepping up the pacing in regards to the mystery of the 7th Brave, and indeed the 8th Brave that Adlet had predicted back in the first book.
Here we learn a bit more about the half fiend, half human woman Flemy, the Brave Killer. While everyone learns about something called the Blackbarren Bloom - which Hans, Adlet and Rolonia learned about in the last book completely - Adlet voted against telling the group an extra bit of detail. The detail that would mean someone was going to die, although it's no surprise who it is, the extent that everyone goes to try and kill them, or protect them is incredible.
This is also the book where something fractures. The Braves are divided, not just because they are suspicious of each other, but because with Adlet and Hans both being in a 'leader' role - one could argue that Hans is just a double vote on certain things since he stated that he didn't want to be a leader - both of them are smart enough to figure things out in their own way. Here is where we see Hans put everything that had happened in the previous books and laid them out to point out who is actually the 7th Brave, while Adlet is doing his best to stop the others from killing someone important to him.
In the meantime the readers learn who the real 7th is, what the fiends are up to, and what was the fiends real plan in regards to the Braves?
This is actually the first book that I never got to read online, so the other 4 books were just going down memory lane when I had first read them. This one has just... ruined all my feels. Just ruined them all.
fcking awesome with plot twist after plot twist! All the details in previous books lead to this. Best book in the series so far! Now let's see how the author can top this when that vital mystery is already revealed by now.
