The Ghost of Lachlan McLean is the first to step forward to accept the Muir Witch's dare. After a quickly accomplished act of bravery, he'll be free to exact his revenge. But plans go amiss when a certain lass refuses to be saved. It’s not just Harper’s trust fund that’s in danger—it’s her life. Her despicable stepfather only has to keep her alive until he gets control of her money, and he’s happy to kill anyone who tries to aid her. So she’s on the run and determined to stay on her own—so no one else has to die. But a lunatic in a kilt decides she needs a hero, and he’s not easy to ditch. If Harper can’t get it through his head that he’s a liability, she’ll be planting another bodyguard in the ground. And if Lachlan can’t get the woman to stand back and let him fight the Highland way—which he couldn’t do at Culloden—he’ll have haunted the battlefield for two hundred seventy years for nothing.
JAMIE is next.
A NOTE ABOUT THE SERIES: Although the individual stories of Culloden’s 79 need not be read in strict order, The Gathering should definitely be read first in order to know what’s going on between the Muir Witch and these Highland warriors from 1745. The Reckoning, Number 79’s story, will finish the series.
I enjoyed this story of the first ghost to leave the moor. It's a quick, short read that is full of action. Lachlan only has one day as a mortal, so the romance is super fast. But how do you not instantly fall for an 18th century Scottish warrior who is literally fighting to protect you? The story REALLY needed an epilogue! It's not a total cliffhanger, but there is just way too much uncertainty left. If they all end that way, I won't be reading many. For now, I'm planning on reading more of the series.
Hmm... interesting premise but somewhat lacking in execution. I thought I'd give it try so I read The Gathering and then Lachlan. There wasn't a real ending for Lachlan, the author called it a temporary ending for now. So Lachlan was good, but short without a solid ending, and the next book in the series, Jamie, is $2.99 for 108 pages. Really? Why should I keep reading if the stories are so short, cost money for many of them (only some are available through Kindle Unlimited) and may not have real endings? I'd probably keep reading if they were all Kindle Unlimited but at this point, I'm two books in with no satisfactorily completed story for anyone.
Update: They are all Kindle Unlimited now and I’ve enjoyed every book since. I’m hooked and a fan of this series. I also highly recommend Curse of the Clan Ross, which includes a book devoted to Wickham’s story.
I've read at least 6 of L.L.Muir's tales of her ghosts and their second chance . Please do read the series if you love your Scotsman braw and couragous, quest to be had and a bit of hocus pocus from a wee witch you will fall in love with this series , I know I did!
This is not a great book and it's a bit hard to follow at times, but in for a penny in for a pound. I'll continue the series and see if they get better.
There is something uniquely charming about this series of books. You can argue they are formulaic; you can argue they’re all the same, each book merely a twist on a basic story that is repeated across the series. Yes, you can argue allL that and more, and I’d probably agree within reason, but formulaic and basic repetition does not mean unworthy, unreadable, or ‘bad’. What you cannot argue or convince me of is that they are not thoroughly enjoyable, heart-warming, utterly delightful romances. I love when a new book in the series is released and devour it in one sitting. I know also that, while I’ll be sad when the series ends, I will go back to Book 1 and read them all over again.
What is also interesting, is that some books on the series are written by other authors. Their response to the brief, the characters and plot lines they have produced in some cases are a surprise or shock, depending how you receive the story. I haven’t always liked the endings, but I’m a softy.
If you want a series that is perfect to curl up with, take to the beach, sit in the garden and just relax, give these a try. I love everyone I’ve read so far, and highly recommend you give them a chance.
Lachlan McLean is the first of the 79 ghosts who stayed behind on the battlefield of Culloden Moor after they died, who becomes a mortal and is sent out by a young Muir Witch to do a good deed in the real world.
He saves a young woman from being killed by a train and thinks that was his task. However, he doesn't disappear but stays in the mortal world as a mortal. So, he figures out that he hadn't accomplished his task yet. So, he sets off to find the young woman and is determined to become her protector. As expected they fall in love eventually but I'll leave the rest of the story for the reader to discover on his/her own. :)
The action wasn't drawn out and I liked that. The characters were well written and the plot was enjoyable. All in all, it was a quick and entertaining book to read. So, tomorrow I will start the 3rd book and find out how Jamie's mortal experience goes. :)
Unfortunately, he only has two days at most to accomplish his task. As expected, he meets a young woman who is in serious trouble. Her stepfather is trying to declare her insane so he can get his hands on the fortune that her mother left her. Lachlan saves
Ghosts of Culloden Moor: Audiobooks: Source: Booksprout. The author has an interesting and immersing writing style complete with likeable characters, humor and romance, and old-fashioned honor and ethics. I enjoyed the well done narration by the two readers. The Scot is easy to understand. The young witch is the perfect character.
Lachlan, #2 - This is an interesting story, too. Set in America, Lachlan discovers his duty. Being a ghost has its advantages. 5*
THE GATHERING, #1 - This is my first audiobook and I was surprised it held my attention. (Thirty-one years with a husband that kept his TV blaring trained me to block noise.) At first, I was confused by the book's set up. It turned out there's a seven chapter prequel before The Gathering. Both stories are interesting and immersing, have wonderful characters and a gamut of emotions. From tragedy to wonder, this romance filled with just as much humor as sadness and a touch of magic. 5*
Lachlan is 2nd book in the series, of 79 ghosts. He needs to commit a heroic good deed so he can move on. He has two days to complete the challenge. He rescues a girl from the train tracks, who is on the run from her step-father. He learns that act did not fulfill the challenge. He continues to help this young lady, and they fall in love. I enjoyed this story, and am looking forward to book 3. Although the premise behind the stories are similar, each is also unique, with their own challenges, twists, and charm. The narration was well done. I received a free copy of this audiobook, and am voluntarily leaving my review.
This is a wonderful book series of 79 ghosts that fell at the battle of Culloden Moor. These men have never left and now the Muir Witch has promised they will be allowed to return to earth for a day or two to perform a good deed to receive their boon. Lachlan cannot wait to find a good deed to perform. Only problem is he is not sure what that consists of. Harper is trying to escape her stepfather, who is out to imprison or kill her to access her trust fund. Can these two find away to help each other. This story has it all, adventures, love, ghosts and a possible happy ending for all.

Each book in this series is very short. So, if you're like me you'll read about one a night. And thankfully they are well written, fun to read, but don't have all the 'adult romance' that most like it have. That means I won't be uncomfortable sharing them with my daughters. So far, and I'm on book 3 now, they are clean and well done with a nice story line. Suggestion: while Lachlan was actually the first book, L.L Muir has since added The Gathering as the first in the series. I highly suggest you actually start with The Gathering so you'll know how it all got started.
This is the second book in a series about 79 highlander ghost. As I understand it each ghost will get his own story. So get ready to read a lot! 😊 You will want to read the first “book” in the story titled The Gathering. It is really more of a short story, as it gives all the background information you need to begin.
Lachlan is our first ghost to leave the Moor and given a task to complete so that he can move on. There is danger, struggles, murder and romance. It was a quick read , and I really enjoyed it. I will definitely be continuing the series.
Oh no. I was skeptical about 79 of these books but the way this one ended?!?!? Nope. I’m not waiting around for book whatever to find out what happened to him. If that’s how all these books are going to be I’m done. I get invested in each book I read and its characters. But when I start a new book I move on and forget. So if there are just going to be cliff hangers then we move on to the next scot I’m so not doing that. I did like the book. The ending was no ending. I want to give it 1-2 stars but the book was good.
I don’t normally leave feedback but I want to thank the author.
I’m tired of sexually explicit “romance” novels and I use that term loosely. If you need to start your book off with trigger warnings then it’s in the wrong genre. This author chose none of those things and guess what? She didn’t need them because she wrote a great book with lovable characters.
This book was heartwarming and refreshing without foul language or explicit sex scenes. It was well written and who doesn’t love a hot Highlander? Thank you!
So I very much enjoyed the prequel The Ghosts of Culloden Moor and quickly picked up book 2 in the series. This book moved very quickly and at times a bit too quickly to flush out the character's personalities and romance. Still this was a likable story that offered conclusion for the main characters but has a continuing story line open for the other Culloden ghosts and Soni, who is trying to set them free.
This is the second book in the The Ghosts of Culloden Moor Series, a Scottish Paranormal Romance. I liked Lachlan and Harper’s clean romance. The story is well written, heartwarming, original and intriguing. Andrew McDermott and Jenn McGuirk did a great job bringing this beautiful story to life. I enjoyed it. Looking forward to listening to Jamie, the next book in the series.

Lachlan has been sent by the Muir witch in to a future time perform a heroic deed in order to move on from Culloden Moor, where his ghost has been trapped for almost 3 centuries. While trying to save Harper and her inheritance from her evil step father, things get complicated.
I wasn't sure what to expect after reading the introduction to the series but I thought I'd give it ago, the story was OK wasn't what I expected and I will be giving the next book ago, usually a book as to grip me so I don't want to put it down, with this one I did put it down but still went back and finished it and I will say I did enjoy it really.
It was good! Nice short story. Quick action packed had a decent story line. May or may not read the whole series. Its kind of nice, you should read the gathering but after that one, you could probably bounce around although I could be wrong I've only just started reading Jaime and its completely different from lachlan's story.
When a witch granted Lachlan, a Highlanders ghost from Cullodon Moor, a chance to do a brave deed in exchange for being able to move on, he took it. When he saved the girl, he could have moved on then, but chose to stay and finish what he started in saving her.
An alright story that was interesting enough to finish but I wasn’t sold on the series. In the last chapter someone dies then in the epilogue it states they went to jail. So that seems like a pretty big thing to forget? Idk it soured my mood on the whole thing, I’ll put the series down and maybe move onto Jamie another time.
This book was wonderful! It had it all—love romance, suspense, great Scottish hero and spunky heroine, and a great story! I will be reading all the rest in the series. It is such an original story idea. I am happy to have discovered it and happily recommend reading it,
A fun read. The plot is interesting, both within the individual story and for the series. The characters are interesting but don't have a lot of depth. And the action is fast paced.
I think its important to read the prologue-The Gathering before you venture into this series. I liked it a lot especially the suspense slant of the story. I enjoyed the flow of the story as well.
Fascinating series. Well written, clean and mystical. It is easy to imagine a group of young lads haunting the Moors of Culloden. These stories tell the tales of 79 Ghost of Culloden Moore.
Great, short tale of magic, ghosts of Scotland and the power of love that ends just a bit short to fill out the ending. Imagination will have to suffice! Loved it. ;-)
