Kenya is the queen of psychological horror!

Seed was a dark and unsettling read that stays with you long after the last page. From the very beginning, the story pulls you into a chilling atmosphere where horror and psychological suspense intertwine. Not to mention, how thought provoking it was because it definitely gave me some “what if” moments! I will forever love her bold storytelling and trust when I say Kenya isn’t afraid to take readers into the darkest corners of the human experience.

What a great read! I bought the original release of this book by Kenya Moss-Dyme a while ago and hadn’t gotten to read it, and then, this week the author released a special edition with a new cover and a ton of extras including two new bonus chapters. This prompted me to make it next on my TBR list and I am so glad I did.

The story is a sci-fi/supernatural horror which uses dystopian satire to explore so many things in a way that is both entertaining and thought-provoking — race/eugenics, racial objectification and stereotype, reproductive (in)justice, social media/influencer culture, elitism/classism, American politics, and activism.

I started reading the book this morning and finished it early evening, it was that good, I couldn’t stop reading. I enjoyed the main character, Stori Deringer and her squad so much. The villains were plentiful and disturbing. There were a couple scenes that legitimately scared the mess out of me but that’s what you get when you read horror, if it’s any good it’ll scare the sh*t out of you 🤣🤷🏿‍♂️. I’d say this one is scary both in the premise and the world presented and then also the events that transpire. I had so many emotions reading this book, I was mad AF, scared AF, I laughed, and I teared up like three times but I’m a cry baby 😪.

I chose to read the special edition of even though I had the original, and I’d recommend that to others. The extras are so integral to how I experienced the story, especially the visual images and also the two additional chapters (which I can’t imagine the book without those and one of them was probably my favorite in the book). There’s also a playlist that’s so good and I’m listening to as I write this review.

I have no idea if the author intends to write a sequel to this book (or even a prequel given how the story plays out) but I would absolutely love that because I think there is much more to explore from where things ended and I’m a nosey reader who wants to know everything 🤭.

Overall, this was a great read. I’ve read other work by Kenya Moss-Dyme too and enjoyed it very much (check out her book in the Dating App Horror Stories series) I need someone I follow or who follows me to read this so we can discuss the book (and maybe the discussion questions at the end, which were so thought provoking).

WOW! This Book Exceeded My Expectations! The Story Was So Twisted From Beginning To End. In A Book Where Being Black Can Be A Blessing & A Curse. Leopold Is One Of Those Places You Don’t Want To Stumble Upon Especially Because The Government Was Backing Them. Unfortunately Corrupt Things Were Happening To Secure The Future Of Mixed Babies. Love An Inside Man Job But The Ending Was So Disastrous….You Have To Read It Yourself. I’d Definitely Recommend!!!

First of all, I need a 2nd book!! This was wild as hell! I'm still stuck on the fact that the author based this on a true events about white women wanting mixed babies and there being a whole group that discusses it in great detail. I love a wild sci-fi story with experimental drugs and crazy doctors. Short but so entertaining.

Enthralling from start to finish. But the ending was jaw dropping and left me saying what in the world did I just read…in a good way!
