I really enjoyed Here She Lies. The mystery around Mara and what happened to her kept me interested, and there were definitely a few moments where I just wanted Evelyn to stop what she was doing and go and follow the next clue already 😂
One of my favourite things was how the book kept changing things up. You've got the normal chapters, but then there are diary entries, newspaper clippings, letters, text messages and interview/transcript parts as well. I wouldn't say they made the story itself better, but I really liked having them there and seeing the different ways bits of the story were revealed.
I especially liked Mara's diary entries and the letter from "Mummy". Finding a letter actually written by your mum when she's no longer around would be an amazing thing to find, although obviously quite sad at the same time. I liked getting parts of Mara's story directly from her rather than everything coming through someone else.
Evelyn was a bit of a mixed bag for me 😂 I did like her, but bloody hell there were times when I wanted someone to give the girl a shake and tell her to get on with it. She also had a habit of getting something into her head and deciding that was 100% what had happened, while I was still sitting there thinking, "But are we sure?" The ending does answer those questions, but I definitely wasn't always as convinced as Evelyn was while getting there.
The pacing was a bit mixed for me too. Some parts were really easy to follow and I just wanted to keep going to find out what happened next, while other parts felt slower or a little too descriptive for me. I listened to most of it using text-to-speech because I'm dyslexic, though, so that could partly just be how my brain takes in some of the more descriptive parts when they're being read out to me.
My biggest downside was probably that I found quite a lot of the overall story predictable. I've seen similar kinds of stories in TV shows and films before, so there weren't many points where I was completely shocked by what was happening. But that didn't stop me enjoying it or wanting to find out exactly what had happened to Mara.
I really liked the ending as well. I won't say exactly what happens because I don't want to spoil it, but I liked where Mara's story ended up, especially the final scene. It was a nice way to finish it and probably one of my favourite parts of the book.
There were also a few bits of wording and what looked like possible proofreading errors that stood out to me, but nothing that stopped me enjoying it.
Overall, I really enjoyed Here She Lies. I liked all the different formats used throughout the book, and finding out what happened to Mara was the main thing that kept me wanting to carry on. It was predictable in places and Evelyn definitely drove me up the wall a few times 😂 but I still really enjoyed it and I'm glad I read it.

there is something SO SO special about reading an author’s debut novel, when they’re not writing to be read but to be heard - and this book is nooooo different. there’s so much heart behind this, hope you have done SUCH an incredible job.

the characters are so interesting and unique, and i found myself constantly just hoping that evelyn was going to be ok. even though i knew how it was going to end from the prologue. mara is so complex, normally i hate dual pov books (#sorry, i know that’s a hot take) but here it was utilised so well, and even though her actions definitely took a turn, there was always part of me that was on her side and hoping that it would all be ok. we won’t talk about the other guy…

the mixed media makes it feel grounded and real, even for those who don’t believe in the paranormal.

such a wonderful book and i’m so excited to see where you go next, hope, you’re in for some big things in the future :)

i’ll love you and leave you,

Ok, so this book was amazing!

First of all, I thought Hope executed this so so well, I won't say too much more because of spoilers but Evelyn, the main character, was so relatable. As I got deeper into the novel I found myself not just engrossed in the twists, but relating to Evelyn more and more.

One thing I really loved and didn't expect was actually to mood, the settings, I found myself feeling really cosy, so note to anyone who's consider reading it - it would be really good with a warm beverage and a blanket inside whilst it's raining.

Also omg the ending!

5 stars :)

Oh. My god.

Hope, this is an incredible book! I can't even believe my eyes. The twists kept on twisting, I read this in one sitting, I'm practically OBSESSED! These characters, this storyline, everything reminded me of the Holly Jackson book, "The reappearance of Rachel Price."

I absolutely loved this and I recommend this to everyone! This is splendid, I'm still shocked, I have goosebumps and my heart's racing.

Big well done! This author is going places 😉

Honestly 10/10.

It was so nice to read a book that was different to everything else out there.

As much as Mara is a psychopath, I still love her.

Make sure everyone pre orders ready for 12th Sept
