Mike Martel is a high school football star who becomes bored of the same old cycle of dating and dumping girls. The whole school is shocked to hear he's taking a break from dating girls. Through his dating celibacy phase, he develops a friendship with Andrew Mills, a good looking classmate who is not caught up with the gossip and drama of high school life. Friends are supportive of Andrew and Mike's new relationship, but the high school system is not, precluding them from attending the prom and blacklisting Mike from potential football scholarships. Together, they fight to gain acceptance. Approximately 60,000 words.

One of the better written high school coming out stories yet. It was a very slow burn romance with Andrew even being reluctant to get involved with Mike. The awkwardness the boys felt in wondering how to act with another guy felt very real. I liked the way that Julia helped Andrew and Mike once she realized that it was real. I hope to read more from this author.

3.5 stars.

I thought this was sweet and had a lot of potential, however, it also needs a good edit. There were a few missing words and a severe laclack of commas.

I was also never quite sure if Andrew was gay or straight or bi or what. He was very uncomfortable with all sorts of affection at first, and I was never sure if it was because it was another guy, or just intimacy in general that made him uncomfortable.

I do think the author did a decent job with the high school setting. I got a bit tired of terms like "fagging out", but it's not that unusual for the age group.

All in all, I thought this was pretty cute, and will check out more from this author.

Awwwww. So sweet

This is a very sweet story of love and acceptance. Wish the author would write another book about Mike and Andrew to see if their love endured through college and remained together forever.

What Will the Future Bring?

Mike is a jock with a different girl on his arm constantly.

Andrew doesn't date or buy into any of the games high school students become ensnared in.

As the two unlikely Juniors become close friends, they both begin to question ideas they've always held, and learn the importance of being true to themselves.
