I’m Carly Cutler and my dreams predict the future. So why am I dreaming about a sexy beast of a guy, a bear, and a paw print design? I don’t know. A force I can’t fight wants me to find out, and I’m leaving the only life I’ve ever known. With a fresh tattoo of a bear paw and my best friend by my side, I’m on a quest to find a man I’ve never met.
Sierra Steele here, and ready for adventure – We’ve been chosen. The moment I saw Carly’s first tattoo, I felt the undeniable attraction of the guy I’ve been dreaming about. My cautious friend can’t resist the pull either, and we’re off to the mountains to get answers. Something’s calling us, and I’m certain the hunky men are our exciting destiny. They’ll keep us safe from the bear, right?
V. Vaughn is also known as Violet Vaughn and is a USA Today Bestselling author. Violet lives on an island in Maine and spends almost every day walking through the woods. She may have seen a bear once or twice....
This book was OK but there was little to no tension between any of the characters and for me there were too many characters.
There are too many main characters to go through them all individually but the main groups are the males and the females. The males are huge bear shifters in desperate need of mates to carry on their bloodline, they send out a signal to female descendants of bear shifters that are compatible for them to mate with. The females get the sign, they start to dream of their guys and move across the country to find the males of their dreams.
There are no secondary characters because there are so many main characters.
The storyline is OK but the pacing is a bit of a let down because there is no tension between any of the characters and their romantic counterparts. Also I struggled with the dialogue because it was very fake for me.
3 stars, not the best but I am continuing with the rest of the series
I don't like serials and actively avoid them at this point. It's not even just because they're so short, though that is a factor, but because they're basically the same. It's rushed, you can't connect to the characters, you never know if the writing going to be choppy or bearable, and it ends in a cliffhanger. The only reason I tried this serial was because I was able to get the first three installments in this boxset.
It was ok. Not great or particularly good but you can find worse serials to read. It has the makings for a good plot, but it's rushed and unable to reach its full potential. Not a lot of character or emotional depth, but they're likable.
I loved this it's detail and plot good and the continuation from 1 book to the next awesome! I'm also going to read the polar bears she has out these were and are that great!
DNF @ 38%. I was REALLY trying to push it to get at least to 50% but it’s just not going to happen. It has taken up to this point for the road trip to be over. I was hoping that things would pick up once we finally get to this bear compound, but no. It’s just ick. I understand with mates it’s going to be an insta-love situation, but this is too insta. It’s “hi nice to meet you, I called you here to breed you but really I’ll take what I can get, also I don’t want you to work just raise our children”. Uhm, no.
OMG I loved this series what a wonderful way to meet the man of your dreams, literally in your dreams! When you finally meet him in the flesh no dating or getting to know each other because you already did all that in your dreams!
Read the wild passionate adventure these girls live not only before they meet their men in person, but even before they do, the passionate encounters they live in their dreams are too good to be true, but they are very true!
Carly and Sierra are the first to take the leap of faith and boy do they ever leap! Right into the arms of her dream man Brady Le Roux alpha prime of The Le Roux Werebear Clan and his BFF Keith.. But will Carly accept the fate and power that awaits her and will Sierra be able to live with the damage being done to her mind. Will the damage be irreversible?
Now Lily and Tyler arrive and are ready to take their place within the clan, but will it be easy sailing like it was for Carly, even Sierra is going through changes and more so now that Tyler has arrived.
I picked Called by the Bear up as a freebie. I wanted to like it, but ended up DNFing at 37%.
I didn’t care for the writing structure. It’s poorly written and was hard to get into. The story is also divided up into multiple POV’s that made it hard to keep track of what was going on. This structure I like, but here it didn't work. It’s also divided up into Three Parts. I think it was a serial and the author just threw it together into one book and didn’t flush it out.
The story is about fated mates and I like this type of storyline, but this time it didn't work for me.
Called by the Bear was not the book for me. If the blurb intrigues you, I urge you to give it a shot. Just because it did not work for me does not mean it won’t for you.
In case you didn’t know, this ends in a cliff hanger! There are lots of characters to keep track of. The story is told from two different female perspectives and it can get confusing keeping track of the story lines at all. Two other female characters are introduced in the story and then don’t appear until books 2 and 3. Stuff happens really fast and it’s kinda lackluster towards the end. I’m passing on the rest of series because I just don’t care about the characters or story. The blurbs make them sound tedious. I also don’t want to read umpteen stories when it should have just been like three or four, hello cash grab. This author isn’t for me. Gave another of their series a try and have now deleted all other books by this author.
I'm not happy. Why didn't they just kill Victor and live happily ever after? He is ruining everything. Ugh Oh well I guess. Can't wait until threw babies are born though.
Read as part of an anthology. Does end in a cliffhanger, with multiple books required to reach a HEA, but does contain multiple storylines. The main premise is multiple women across the country suddenly start having erotic dreams, including specific men and a bear print symbol/ tattoo. The two initial girls we meet work together in a tattoo shop, and they tattoo the symbol on themselves. This intensifies everything, and they decide to follow the feelings, quit their (unhappy) jobs and hop in the car. Traveling cross-country, they meet some other girls having the same issue, tattoo them, and carry on to Maine. Turns out they have some bear shifter ancestry and are being called to pair with males from a cursed tribe that needs mates. One pair gets happily paired off, but the others face some drama, until the cliffhanger end. I had a hard time getting into this book, and checking the page count until done. The author went overly detailed on a bunch of insignificant stuff, like someone told her they needed to cover all 5 senses every chapter or something. The multiple women being added didn't help things, as I wasn't well connected to the initial characters, and more kept being added, so had a harder time following as the story switched between the girls/couples. Wasn't horribly written, and some hot scenes, but not an author I will seek out at this point.

A Bear Clan in Maine has a problem with reproduction and send out mental messages to women with some bear shiftier blood. Carly Cutler is a tattoo artist from California is one of these women along with her best friend Sierra. She designs a stylized bear claw tattoo and only other shiftiers can see it. On the trip across country they meet two other women that are having dreams, want the tattoo and both Lily form Colorado and Taylor from Connecticut travel to Maine too.
Carly finds her fated mate in Brady the clan's alpha. The other three women encounter difficulties with the men that sent messages in dreams to them. A rival clan's alpha's son causes trouble and as the women are mated they experience some difficult physical that were unexpected as they mate.
Three clans are wanting the power from controlling the Northeastern part of the United States. New treaties are needed along with new alliances to keep the peace and balance between the clans and Carly is the key to this but she doesn't understand her complete role in the first part of the Called by the Bear ~ Part 1 trilogy. I look forward to reading the complicated plot in the next two books to find the fate of the cursed clan and power struggle.
Having read this when it first came out but being really sick about a year and a half ago leaving me not remembering a lot I decided to read it again. It was as wonderful this time. A werebear clan who needs women who can bear children since they have had no children in 25 years but out a calling for women with any werebear descent. Carly is one of the women called along with her best friend and two others that they meet along their way to the clan. She realized she had found what she wanted as soon as she met the man she had been dreaming about.. He is the alpha or Prime of the clan and she turns out to be an alpha herself as well as his Prima which is something he has to learn to deal with. As she also discovers who her mother is and why she wasn't part of her life. There are three werebear clans in their area. You get to discover how a human drawn into this new life full of discovery and truths she didn't know builds a new life.
Carly Cutler's dreams predict the future. So when she dreams of a hot guy, a bear, and a paw print design, a force she can't fight makes her leave the only life she's ever known. With a fresh tattoo of a bear paw and her best friend, Sierra by her side she sets off on a quest to find a man she's never met. Carly and Sierra discover more women like them on the trip from California to Maine, and Lily and Taylor join them for the adventure of a lifetime as they discover lies, deception and true mate love in the secret world of werebear.
Called by the Bear is a brilliant book from beginning to end and the characters were amazing. The story line was also quite unique and made the book more entertaining and brought the boom to life. V. Vaughn is a new author to me and wow did they blow my mind with this book. I found it very hard to put the book down and it lead to me having a late night.
Found this book looking for something to listen to.What a great surprise. Romance,Mystery. All in one. I am not good at reviews but this is a really good paranormal story that has ALL the good stuff.Carly feels a pull to....Somewhere.She is having strange dreams,Seeing a sexy man. Bears,The woods. She thinks she is going crazy, till she finds out that her best friend is having the same weird dreams. She keeps seeing a paw 🐾 .She finally gives in ,tattoos herself. Then she leaves everything behind and searches for her mystery man, with her best friend Sierra
I was clearly not paying attention when I purchased this book because I failed to notice it was book 1 of a trilogy and I need to read the other two books to get the whole story. The story was not bad but with so many main characters and switching back and forth between those characters it was a bit confusing. In addition, there was not enough time for character development and it lost some of its strength. I will not be reading the next book in the series.
I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. It's a very cutesy insta love story with multiple story lines. Most books I've read that have a group of characters have split the different couples into their own books but not this one. I actually liked the way they are all happening simultaneously instead of one couple at a time. Fun read and I at first didn't think I would want to continue the series but after finishing I really want to see how things end up.
The beginning was a little unbelievable for me. I was set in NOT continuing on with the series, then the other characters stories started being told and I started getting interested but if course you have to read the next story for that.... Well see
This is my first time reading a book by V. Vaughn and I was very impressed. I'm a sucka for paranormal and shifters give me life. This book had a great storyline that draws you in like the dreams Carly and Sierra have that draw them to the bears. I love Brady and I feel so bad for Keith. Can't wait to read book two.💓💓
There is no HEA none! 4+ couples and there is so many lines going it makes it all drag and my sanity isn't worth the $76.88 for all of the books in the series or even the $4.99 for the next book. Maybe is it was one couple all the way but not in the current state.
I had almost given up on first person POV books. Then I saw the reviews for this one on Facebook, and took a chance. I've been blown away. The multiple POV'S is riveting. I love the story; the characters; the setting; and can't wait to see how it all comes together. If you love Roxie Ray you will love V. Vaughn.
It was a very good book, well written and thought out. That being said, if you are reading on KU, don’t bother. I forgot she is one of the authors that teases you with the first book included in your subscription price, but charges for the rest of the series. I don’t find this honest or admirable.
I had a hard time keeping up with all of the characters the story went through. It would talk about one couple then in the same chapter two more, for me, that made it hard to connect to any of them. I would have enjoyed it better if it was at least one or two couples per chapter. I don't think I'll follow any more in the series but judge for yourself. At 55% DNF
Free kindle read. This was a Serial story line I believe and broken up into 3 books and looks like some more.
Not bad for starters. Premise of Mates being called to Wearbears. I checked the next few books and though I might be slightly interested, not into all the crazy back-and-forth drama that will irritate me. So for me, I'm bowing out. Please check other people's reviews
The jury is still out on this series. It's somewhat intriguing with the bear shifter phenomenon, especially being able to turn humans into shifters. And I'm not really sure what volume I'm reading next since the book I read started over at a Chapter 1, three times. I'm on to the next in the series and will decide if I want to continue it after that book.
