A dark future awaits...

After a decade of storms, disease, drought, and riots, the US conquers its troubles by militarizing its government. Old democratic allies in Europe respond uneasily to the change.

Arinna and Michael Prescot are just two of the many former soldiers sent to embassies in the hopes of strengthening faltering US alliances in 2055. But as the US becomes embroiled with new internal terrorism, its agents in Europe are offered intimidation, lies, and deceit rather than explanations. And the price of seeking answers is steep.

As the growing chaos in the US threatens the peace of Europe, choices of loyalty need to be made Even if all offers of help come with thorns. Global events hinge on a few individuals as war once again threatens Europe, and no one is more unprepared than its potential saviors.

Stories from the War consists of eleven interlinked short stories that are a prelude to the military dystopian thriller trilogy Friends of my Enemy.

Set in Europe, this thrilling series unfolds through the intersecting lives of a small handful of people and explores adult themes, both dark and hopeful, of friendship, romance, and family, including how these influences direct everyday choices which ripple outwards to impact governments on the verge of war. Because not all influence is good, and not all decisions can be made in time.

I really enjoyed this dystopian with adults as lead characters. It had little focus on romance and instead focused on the plot: the war.
The characters were interesting and I wanted to read on, just to learn more about them. It was my first military focused book and I'm sure it won't be the last.

Terrifying

This book is brilliant but it is a terrifying scenario. The characters are very believable and I look forward to reading the rest of the series.

An excellent futuristic story, taking place in 2055 and on. Arinna and Michael Prescott are sent to Europe to figure out the war in America. Gripping and makes you think.

DNF (25%) I don't like Byran and I don't want to waste more time reading about him and Arinna. If the story was more about the politics and terrorism, I might continue.

Just finished reading "Stories from the War" Friends of my Enemy Book 1, by Autumn M. Birt. What a wonderful beginning to a dark dystopian thriller. I already have some favorites, Lady Grey (Arinna Presot), Captain Jared Vries, and for a reason I have yet to figure out I am really taken in by Baron Byran Vasquez. The future does not look very good from the very start. Look forward to book 2.
