Cassie and Allie are back - helping the dead of Kensington Falls find answers
With all of the new changes in Cassie’s life, she has had to rely on the wisdom of Allie, her cat, as well as her own instincts to not only accept the upheaval, but to use her new abilities to help the desperate spirits around her. When Zeb enters her life, he already somehow knows her secret, but he has a secret of his own. With his help Cassie will discover new talents as she is thrown head first into amazing and sometimes frightening situations in order to find closure and justice for those without a voice. Is there more to Zeb than meets the eye? Does it have something to do with the incredibly strong attraction that seems to be growing between them? Like moths to a flame, the ghosts of Kensington Falls are flocking to Cassie for help, but can she give everything she’s got to helping the dead and still keep her own life intact?
As far as genres go, I enjoy writing Ghost Mysteries (my heroine sees and helps them, but she isn't one) and Psychological Thrillers (the kind that cause a person to become a little paranoid) with a dash of Twilight Zone style short stories. My fingers have a mind of their own somewhere on the dark side, so sometimes even I'm surprised at what turns out. I am also a voracious reader - so much so that I usually have more than one book going at any given time. Plus, I have the tendency to go back and re-read books that I enjoyed so much the first time. Honestly, can any true bibliophile not, at least on occasion, feel that pull to re-visit an old friend, even if it means popping back into the same part of their life they previously explored? Yes, I have also spent inordinate amounts of time pondering the possible outcomes or future dealings that my favorite characters might have continued past the pages where I first met them. With that in mind, how could I have not become a writer? In fact, I have been writing for as long as I can remember - poems, uplifting notes, a play or two, newspaper articles, short stories, novellas, and now novels. Some things have been well received and others not so much (just ask my children how they feel about the various "uplifting notes" I leave around the house for them). With regard to actual biographical information, well, I am one of 2.3 kids who grew up on a cul-de-sac in a house without a picket fence, but plenty of animals. I moved all over the country and beyond after graduating high school, meeting all manner of people in all sorts of places. I enjoy music, scrapbooking, and making the occasional comfort food, along with my constant reading. I tend to the Twilight Zone way of thinking and the "What's your fear? Let me write about that" kind of style. Although I like to explore the dark depths of the human psyche, I am generally a happy and pleasant sort of gal.
Fantastic second book in this series. Beautifully written! I went through so many emotions while reading...and it was a great ride. Definitely recommend as a quick read that is fun, scary, emotional, and touching supernatural mystery with a lot of heart.
I was pleasantly surprised by the first book in this series, so I was more than happy to check out the next story in the New Sight series. The inhabitants of Kensington Falls are an odd mix. There are perfectly normal, warm-hearted folk like Artie, Claire and Marcie; then there are the poor lost souls who need Cassie Brant to help them. These lost souls are dead, but are unable to move on until a problem relating to the manner of their death is resolved. Cassie with her cat Allie, has the gift to enable that closure to be achieved. In this story Cassie also has a potential love interest in Zeb, who she met while in hospital recovering from her adventures in 'Opening The Veil'. To balance out the warm-hearted townsfolk there are some thoroughly nasty characters involved in 'A Brighter Light', so this is a 'darker' offering to the first. One thing that hasn't changed is the quality of writing; that remains very high.
I loved this book! Cassie is back after surviving being shot, and her new powers to see and help ghosts are getting stronger. She is being aided in her quest to better understand what she can do by several people she meets along the way. I have read a lot of books about ghost helpers which come across as sappy and stupid, but you won't find that in these books. The author has given depth and complexity to the characters, and gives the plot just enough twists to keep you on your toes. You can read this as a standalone, the author gives just enough info from book one to keep up with Cassie's life, but I highly recommend you read book one because it's Awesome. This is a very easy read, that will leave you wanting more of Cassie, and her magnificent feline protector Allie.
The characters are interesting and the plot is fun. It's a pleasant diversion for a stressful day.
I like the theme of the story, but I'd prefer to have a more defined beginning and end. As it is now is like the old-time radio series in which the listeners had to tune in every week to hear the next episode; that, I imagine, is the point. The entire series, I suspect, could make up a single book.
A BRIGHTER LIGHT is the second book in the New Light series and picks up after the ending of OPENING THE VEIL. Cassie is back and growing stronger in her newfound powers. Thank goodness she has her cat, Allie, to guide her, along with her new friend Zeb who has secrets of his own. A BRIGHTER LIGHT is even more captivating than OPENING THE VEIL. The ghosts of Kensington Falls are coming to Cassie more often and stronger than ever before since she’s discovered this new world. Fast-paced, unique, and intriguing, A BRIGHTER LIGHT will keep you glued to the pages. The New Light series is one which has quickly seized my attention.
I very much enjoy this series. I love the talking cat and Cassie is a very memorable character. Cassie has the ability to see the dead. I love to read the adventures she goes on. I like that she gets advice from her cat. I love the way the author pulls you into this series and I can't wait to read more. * I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review*
I really enjoyed this book! My favorite without a doubt. I really like the continuing development of Cassie & her abilities, the continued snarkiness & wisdom of Allie, the nasty people she has contact with, the ghosts she deals with and the introduction of a little romance. Write again soon please. Love it!
It's sweet, funny, suspenseful, loving, it made me think of my cat in a different way. I like the family feel with the town folks. Can't wait to see where the romance goes.
